Louis Ludik will miss the Emerging Boks fixture as well as the entire Absa Currie Cup due to a knee injury.
Ludik tore his cruciate and collateral ligaments in the Golden Lions’ defeat to their British & Irish counterparts. The latest is he will not play any rugby for the next six months, a fact that rules him out of the Golden Lions’ domestic season.
Coach Dick Muir said on Thursday the decision to replace Ludik and injured flyhalf Burton Francis will be made at a later stage. Ludik cleared his line in Wednesday’s match but got caught by touring flank David Wallace. After receiving treatment for treatment for five minutes, Ludik was stretchered from the field.
As was evident in Wednesday’s showing, the Golden Lions have no obvious successor to Ludik, and will struggle to fill the void. Shandre Frolick scored the hosts’ only try in the recent fixture, but is an unreliable 15 option.
