Keo.co.za speaks to Glenwood’s tighthead prop about his strengths and goals for the future.
What’s been the highlight of your rugby career so far?
Winning the World Rugby Youth Invitational in Japan last year [he scored the winning try for Glenwood in the last minute of the pool game against St Benedict's.]
What are your big strengths? Some have compared you to former Bok prop CJ van der Linde.
I run good angles, and the physical side of my game has developed nicely. I think I make a good general contribution to the team.
Who’s played a big role in your rugby development?
My current coach at Glenwood, Sean Erasmus, has really helped me a lot, in terms of getting my technique right and giving me useful advice. My dad has also had a big influence on me, because he doesn’t settle for second best, and always pushes me to my limits with his support.
Who’s your favourite rugby player?
Jean Deysel [Sharks flank].
And your favourite team?
The Sharks.
Who’s your toughest opponent?
John-Roy Jenkinson!
What are your future ambitions?
To go futher in rugby and make a career out of it. I’d love to play for the Sharks, and to represent my country as a Springbok.

Kes chooses to have no sponsor. Took 100 years to get numbers on their backs!

Big ups to kes for no sponsor, Bishops got their first one a couple of years ago, keep it subtle though… but 148 years since rugby began there, still no numbers!
Have your say
