Crusaders keep Carter
15 Jun 2009
All Blacks pivot Dan Carter has committed to the Crusaders until the end of 2011.
The Christchurch union have denied rumours of Carter heading up to the Blues, and are happy to secure his service for at least two more seasons.
‘While there has been intense media speculation about Dan’s future provincial union, our discussions have been positive and constructive throughout and have lead to this agreement today,’ Crusaders chief executive Hamish Riach said.
‘Dan is obviously a world class player and it will be fantastic to have him back. It is quite simply tremendously good news for all who care about Canterbury and Crusaders rugby.’
Carter is currently out with an Achilles injury and will only be back in action for the All Blacks in August.

#1 Nils: Great, with Carter back, four teams will dominate next year in the S14, all depending which players are lost and gained by each franchise:
1. The Champions
2. Chiefs
3. Crusaders
4. Brumbies (with Giteau)

Lets be sure about ONE thing. A homegrown Canty player of Carters qulaity was never EVER going to leave the Red’n'Blacks. Besides, why would he leave for the ragtag dishevelled lot in Auckland ?
Whatever salary was offered, the Canty Mafia just wouldnt allow it. And why should they ? Besides, DC hardly needs the ca$h. He’s probably the most marketable player on the Planet.

#3 BDB: Agree plus probably Sharks, Waratahs and Hurricanes in the mix.
It will be interesting to see what Brumbies can offer next year with Gits back, I’d be rather disappointed if they do not do better than this year.

#4 BlackPanther: I just cannot imagine him playing for anybody else in NZ bar Canterbury/Crusaders – mafia or not.
Maybe another French team in the far future. Would gladly see him lasting full season there.
Have your say
