1 min – Ruan Pienaar kicks off to the far side and Brian O’Driscoll fields before launching the ball back down field.

2 mins – JP Piertersen is blown up for offside, and Paul O’Connell has no hesitation in pointing to the sticks.

2 mins – Stephen Jones pulls his penalty attempt just wide.

5 mins – BOK TRY! Boks go left with Pienaar, it’s quickly recycled and the captain John Smit crashes over just left of the posts. What a start for the home side.

6 mins – Pienaar pops over the conversion and the Boks lead 7-0.

7 mins – Lions look to hit back immediately through Ugo Monye, but some wonderful defensive work from Pietersen and Jean de Villiers prevents him from grounding the ball.

9 mins – Scrum in Lions territory and the Springbok front row destroys the tourists. Penalty Boks.

10 mins – Pienaar makes no mistake with the penalty and the Boks take a 10-0 lead.

14 mins – Penalty Lions in a good area. Brian Habana is penalised for not releasing the ball.

15 mins – Jones misses his second penalty and the Lions remain scoreless.

18 mins – The Bok scrum is dominant yet again as Beast Mtawarira continues to give Phil Vickery hell.

19 mins – Penalty to the Boks as Croft takes out du Preez without using his arms. Frans Steyn is going to have a shot for goal

20 mins – Steyn nails the kick and the Boks lead 13-0.

22 mins – TRY LIONS! The Lions finally get on the board through Tom Croft after some wonderful work from the centre combination of O’Driscoll and Jamie Roberts.

23 mins – Jones adds the extras to narrow the gap to just six points. 13-7.

27 mins – Penalty to the Boks on half way. O’Connell blown up for not getting back to his feet first after a tackle on Adi Jacobs.

28 mins – Steyn pulls this one horribly left. The Springboks get the ball off the restart and Jean de Villiers knocks on. Scrum to the Lions.

31 mins – Yet another penalty for the hosts. Vickery’s nightmare continues as a cry of “BEAST” reverberates out around King’s Park.

32 mins – Pienaar slots his third successful kick and Boks lead 16-7.

34 mins – Yet another kickable penalty for the men in green as O’Connell’s frustration continues to grow.

35 mins – Another excellent kick from Pienaar to extend the hosts’ lead to 12 points.

38 mins – Penalty Boks. The Beast Mtawarira show continues as the Lions front row is again reduced to rubble.

39 mins – This time though, Pienaar’s kick is off target.

40 mins – The siren goes and the Boks are more than happy to boot the ball into touch.

Half-time – South Africa 19 Lions 7

41 mins – Jones kicks off high into midfield and Roberts is first to the ball.

43 mins – A little stop-start at the beginning of the second stanza,but the Boks finally get things going with a brilliant rolling maul.

44 mins – Penalty against the Lions for joining the maul from the side. Pienaar pumps the ball down field.

45 mins – Yet another penalty for the Boks and Pienaar pings the ball in the corner as the hosts set up another maul from the lineout.

46 mins - BOK TRY! Another excellent rolling maul and Heinrich Brussow scores his first try in Springbok colours.

47 mins – Pienaar takes his time and calmly slots the conversion to give the hosts a 26-7 lead.

48 mins – Great attack from the Lions from the restart. Advantage to the Lions as Roberts is tackled early. The Lions go through the phases and Mike Phillips breaks through the middle and goes for the line, but fails to ground it under pressure from Bakkies Botha.

51 mins – Springbok substitution. Danie Rossouw comes on for try scorer Brussow.

54 mins – Lions on the attack again as Tommy Bowe cuts through the Bok defence but the ball is lost forward. A little bit of afters between Bryan Habana and a couple of the Lions backs.

55 mins – Touch judge comes into play and a penalty is awarded against Matthew Rees for punching. Not much in that one.

57 mins – More Boks subs as Andries Bekker and Jaque Fourie join the action.

60 mins – Lions look to attack down the wing but the chance is snuffed out. The tourists are clearly frustrated and a little altercation breaks out between Bowe and Bekker on the sidelines.

64 mins – Lions awarded a penalty deep in Bok territory. They opt for the scrum with tries required.

65 mins – More changes for the Boks. Morne Steyn comes on for Pienaar to earn his first Springbok cap, while local heroes Smit and Mtawarira leave the field to a huge applause.

67 mins – LIONS TRY! Having camped in Bok territory for the last 10 minutes the Lions finally cross the line again as O’Driscoll puts Croft through a gap for his second of the game.

68 mins – Jones nails the easy conversion to narrow the gap to 12 points. 26-14.

71 mins – Ugo Monye looks destined to score for the Lions but a splendid tackle from debutant Morne Steyn snuffs out the opportunity.

74 mins – The Lions have all the momentum with time running out as the hosts continue to concede penalties in their own half.

74 mins – LIONS TRY! Scrumhalf Mike Phillips spots a gap in the Bok defence and scores his side’s third try under the posts after some good build up play from the Lions big men.

75 mins – Jones quickly adds the conversion and the Lions trail by just five with four minutes to play.

77 mins – Penalty to the Lions. Quick consultation before the visitors decide to kick for touch.

79 mins – Penalty against Roberts for not releasing and Bok supports send out a loud cheer.

80 mins – The siren sounds and Ricky Januarie boots the ball into touch as the Boks hold on for a tense victory.
