Flanker Rocky Elsom looks set to miss out on the Wallabies’ first two matches of this season’s Tri-Nations.
Wallabies coach Robbie Deans will name his Tri-Nations squad on Thursday and although Elsom is expected to be among the 30-man list, it is unclear when he will be available.
The powerful 26-year-old loose forward is currently sidelined with bone bruising in his knee.
‘Rocky is not progressing the way he would like, nor we would like,’ Deans told Rugbyheaven.com.au. ‘It’s a time thing. It’s a matter of when. It’s proving more frustrating than all parties would like. We have two games in about a month and a half. So I would like to think he would be good to go by the end of that.’
The Wallabies begin their Tri-Nations campaign on 18 July when they face the All Blacks in Auckland, but only play their next match against the Springboks at Newlands on 8 August.
Deans indicated that Elsom could be ready in time for the team’s third game in Sydney against New Zealand on 22 August.
