Highbury Safika Media claimed four big prizes at the 29th SAB Sport Journalism awards in Jo’burg on Monday night.
Keo, HSM’s chief operating officer and founder of keo.co.za, was voted Columnist of the Year for his contributions to Business Day newspaper and its popular magazine Business Day Sport Monthly.
Gary Lemke, HSM’s publishing director and Business Day Sport Monthly editor, won the Feature Writer of the Year award and the Overall Print Journalist of the Year Award.
And finally, Ryan Vrede, senior staff writer for keo.co.za and SA Rugby magazine, won the Feature Writer of the Year Award in the Newcomer category.
In other rugby-related awards, Bob Skinstad was voted Best Newcomer overall, while Bok Sevens coach Paul Treu was presented with the Most Media Friendly Personality award.
‘To be honoured by South Africa’s top sports journalists in this way, is amazing. As a team we’ve always placed a high premium on our preparations on and off the field,’ said Treu.
‘Again, this award is not only for me. It’s for every squad member that helped to make this season a huge success.’

#95 gunther:they can call him whatever they want, they must base it on facts, you can’t brand someone a liability until you’ve actually measured their efficacy
Now in this world of public relations i’m not too sure who sets the measuring standards as to who is and who isn’t a liability, or what is good or bad for the club or country…
from what i can tell, pdv is no more “arrogant” than what graham henry or alex ferguson is, but the latter’s employers back them in whatever they do…
after graham henry didn’t tell his players that they need to win by six points & subsequently telling the media that he didn’t want to put any more pressure on his players that’s why he didn’t urge them to score more points, what has been the rugby world’s reaction to his utterances, has the NZRU issued a statement on his utterances, do you think he is basking in a light of brilliance? Has your perception about him changed?
#93 Sheriff:don’t worry sheriff, the compliment was for you taking a firm stand on a principle and articulating your points well. That’s it…
The biko reference was meant to be a play on words, as i had just sad to you “write what you like” get it…steve biko’s book of essays titled “i write what i like”
Do you listen to hip hop sheriff?
