Port Natal School’s 1st XV won all 22 of their matches in 2009.
The White Knights scored 726 points with only 116 scored against them (an average score of 33-5 per game).
Their season started early with the Damelin Rugby Night Series (previously known as the McCarthy Night Series). Port Natal have won the tournament eight times in its 10-year existence.
In the final of the 2009 series, Port Natal beat a very motivated George Campbell School of Technology side 13-12.
The 1st XV had an unbeaten season, seeing off sides like Sand du Plessis (Bloemfontein), Potch Boys’ High, Grenswag and Bergsig (Rustenburg). All of these schools have two or three times as many boys to chose from than Port Natal.
Port Natal was opened in 1941 and is the only Afrikaans medium school in Central Durban. Learners start their career at the school in Grade 1 and have the luxury of staying at one campus until Grade 12. They currently have around 400 learners from Grade 8-12 with the split between boys and girls being approximately 50-50.
However, Port Natal still manages to field six rugby teams on any given Saturday (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, U15 and U14).
Mr Price has been the proud sponsor of the 1st XV since 2006.
