Boks to face Samoa at RWC
19 Jul 2009
Samoa have qualified for the 2011 World Cup and will face the Springboks in Pool D.
Samoa beat Papua New Guinea 73-12 to clinch a 188-19 win on aggregate over their Oceania rivals and qualify for the global tournament in New Zealand.
The Oceania qualifier had already been drawn to appear in Pool D where they will join the defending World Champion Springboks as well as Wales and Fiji. The pool line-up will be completed by the winner of Africa’s qualifying final between Tunisia and Namibia in November.

Good prep for play-off stages! Samoa and Fiji will have big ‘home’ support

So SA are in the pool again with 2 Islander teams.
Nothing like playing the islanders and be “softened” up before the elimination stages.
In the 2007 WC samoa and tonga were out to hurt people with their shoulder charges and high tackles etc BUT were praised for playing rugby with all of their hearts and just playing hard rugby.
If a saffa tackles high or late with a shoulder he is a thug and the world cursifies them.
What about all the other countries we have never faced in the pool stages or never even played etc in a WC because of the stupid pool selections.
2003 wc – SA, samoa, england
2007 wc – SA, samoa, england, tonga
2011 wc – SA, samoa, wales, fiji
2003 wc – wales, tonga,
2007 wc – wales, fiji
2011 wc – wales, fiji
Why dont the IRB get better pool divisions? this pattern is ridiculous.

#4. Who knows mate? Similarly Ireland usually encounters Australia, Scotland usually encounters the All Blacks. Although this one is slightly different with the Argies heading their own pool.
Am I correct in saying that all the World Cup winning teams never lost a game in the competition they won? Although there has always been a close call except NZ who dominated in 87.

# “Am I correct in saying that all the World Cup winning teams never lost a game in the competition they won?”
I think, you are right. And another thing – every winner of the WC (except NZ in the first one) have beaten then reigning champions
91 Aus beat NZ in the semi
95 SA beat Aus in the pool
99 Aus beat SA in the semi
03 Eng beat Aus in the final
07 SA beat Eng in the final (and pool)

#5 Lions_Soutie: Ireland can beat Australia in the pool game. I also think they’ll beat them this Autumn.
Now, that would mean a South Africa v Australia Quarter-final. Interesting

#7 Big Hit: to go along with the France/England quarter or even a AB/England 1/4 … interesting indeed

#8 poppa69: yes, it could happen if France beat NZ in the pool or we lose to Argentina or Scotland. My gut feeling tells me however that England and NZ will top their groups, France might beat NZ but will probably lose to Canada
This points to NZ and England having semi-finals with the Aus/Boks or possibly Ireland/Wales.

Anything can happen. Ireland were a major disppointment at the previous cup, looked fatigued. If anything, besides the draw we received the Boks won because if their great conditioning. Os’ bodyfat was prob under 10%! Lol! Similarly England were in great shape in 2003. Neil Back looked like a bodybuilder with his shirt off.

Camp Staaldraad turned our Boks into Grade 12s in 2003. Haha
Have your say
