Dan Carter will play club rugby for Southbridge against Hornby in Christchurch on Saturday.
The flyhalf injured his Achilles tendon while representing Perpignan in February, and is hoping to be fit for the All Blacks’ fourth match of the Tri-Nations against Australia on 22 August.
Carter was on Thursday given the all-clear to play for Southbridge after coming successfully through training with the Canterbury squad.
‘I’m really looking forward to playing for Southbridge,’ he told stuff.co.nz. ‘I played all my age-group rugby for the club but have never turned out in a senior match for them so it will be a new experience.’
Carter said he felt confident he was ready physically for the challenge of a competitive match.
‘I’m really happy with where my training is at following my injury. I’ve done a lot of running in the past few weeks and speed work and contact work this week, so I’m confident that I’m ready to go.’
