Juan Martin Hernandez has finally joined up with the Sharks after arriving in Durban on Saturday.
The Pumas pivot agreed personal terms with the KwaZulu-Natalians quite some time ago but his move was delayed because of work permit issues. His transfer will see him stay at the union until May 2010.
Hernandez’s experience will be invaluable to the Sharks’ Currie Cup campaign after unsatisfactory performances by 19-year-old Guy Cronje and the less-fancied Monty Dumond. ‘The Magician’ will also be a boost to the Sharks depleted backline, which has lost several key players to the Springboks’ Tri-Nations squad.
The Argentinean has been playing club rugby in France for Stade Francais, winning the Top 14 in 2004 and the European Cup in 2005. However, he has not been happy at the club recently as they played him regularly at fullback.
Hernanedez is likely to start at flyhalf against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Friday.
