Aussie franchise pulls out
4 Aug 2009
One of the prospective Australian franchises has withdrawn their application to join the expanded Super 15 in 2011.
The New South Wales Country Union announced they could not meet the criteria set out by Sanzar and have pulled out of the race.
‘We felt it proper to withdraw, to allow the ARU to work with the other applicants,’ NSW CRU president Bruce Worboys said in an ARU statement.
The favourite to join the Australian conference remains Melbourne, while the Eastern Cape’s Southern Kings as well as Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay from New Zealand have applied.
The respective countries will evaluate the bidders and send their proposals to Sanzar later this month. The announcement of the 15th Super Rugby franchise is expected in October.

First it was the Gold Coast franchise…
Now the NSW District franchise…
Just give the damn thing to Melbourne (the most deserving) and get it over with.

Melbourne will probably get it.
Feel really let down by NZ and OZ. They both voted for England for the wc in 2015. Thats what I heard. Thought they would have voted for SA especially thought NZ would have voted for us. We gave them our vote for 2011.

I read an article in the latest SA Rugby where Cheeky Watson was seriously talking about The Kings joining as an Aussie team and though, “You must be on some class A drugs if you think that is ever going to happen.”
