Maties, Ikeys dominate SA Students

Coach Chean Roux has given his side a ‘Cape makeover’ ahead of their second clash with the Collegiate All-Americans at Newlands on Saturday.

The home side will play against their USA counterparts for the second time this week, in a Tri-Nations curtain-raiser, after beating them 72-14 on Wednesday.

Roux has brought five new players into the starting line-up and made one positional change.

Wing Morné Jooste, centre Tim Whitehead, scrumhalf Marlin Ruiters and prop Lourens Adriaanse all earn starts, while UCT’s Matthew Rosslee moves from inside centre to flyhalf.

These changes see nine Maties players and four Ikeys in the 22-man team.

Pukke flank William van der Wal will once again captain the side.

‘Playing in a curtain-raiser to a Springbok Test is a special moment,’ said Van der Wal, ‘and we’re hoping to end what has been a great week on a high.

‘Wednesday’s match was an enjoyable one, despite not knowing much about our opponents, and with one game under the belt, we’re hoping to come out firing on Saturday.’

The game will start 2:15pm.
