Dawie Theron says a win over the Bulls will bring Griquas one step closer to qualifying for the play-offs.
After victories over the Cheetahs and Leopards, Theron played down thoughts of finishing in the top-half of the Currie Cup so early in the season. The Griquas players, however, have inspired their coach with some new belief by recording impressive wins against Boland, the Lions and Western Province.
‘If we pull off a win against the Bulls, we will be going flat out to get maximum points on the log for sure,’ Theron told keo.co.za. ‘It will be difficult for the guys not to aim for the semi-finals after such a great head-start.’
After five matches, Griquas are unbeaten and seven points clear of defending champions, the Sharks, who are in second place with 18 points.
With nine games to go, Theron says the players are determined to continue moving forward.
‘The team is positive that we can keep up the momentum because we are focused and motivated,’ he said.
‘If we can get 27 or 28 points after the first round, that immediately puts us on the road to success. In previous seasons, 30-odd points were enough to see you into the semi-finals, so there is definitely a good chance that we can make it this season.’
