Sahara St David’s Marist Inanda Twenty 20 Cricket Festival
18 Aug 2009
The Sahara St David’s Marist Inanda Twenty 20 Cricket Festival has become one of the most popular and prestigious schoolboy cricket festivals in South Africa and 2009 promises to be an even better and bigger event.
The festival has introduced a new and more explosive form of cricket at grassroots level and youngsters playing the game are benefiting hugely from the experience.
The 2009 SAHARA ALL STARS XI team will once again be packed with some of South Africa’s all-time greats that should include Graeme Smith (captain), Roelof van der Merwe, Jacques Kallis, Dale Steyn, Jean Paul Duminy, Makhaya Ntini, Loots Bosman, Daryl Cullinan, Pierre Joubert, Gulam Bodi and Wayne Parnell to name but a few. Themba Bavuma, last year’s Man of the Match, and a St David’s Marist Inanda 2008 Old Boy, will also be included in the ALL STARS XI.
The following schools will be participating in the 2009 festival: St David’s Marist Inanda, King Edward VII, St Stithians College, Kearsney College, St John’s College, St Alban’s College, Affies, Hudson Park, Maritzburg College, St Charles College, Grey College (Bloemfontein) and the KPT XI. The KPT XI will include players from Crawford College (Gauteng), New Orleans (Boland), Westering (Eastern Province), Hoerskool Randburg (Gauteng), Hoerskool Waterkloof (Northerns), St Andrew’s School (Free State), Jeppe High School for Boys (Gauteng), Queens College (Border) and SACS (Western Province).
The festival runs from 10-13 September with the schoolboy matches happening all day on the 10th, 11th and 13th, and on the morning of the 12th. Saturday is the focus of the Festival with the SAHARA ALL STARS XI vs the Combined Schools XI starting at 13:50 (this match will also be televised live on SuperSport). The cricket will be supplemented by a number of other activities and entertainment on the Saturday, including a beer tent, kidz zone as well as DJs Lady Lea and Euphonik later in the day. Tickets will be on sale for the Saturday only (R20 before 13h00 and R50 after 13h00 – so come early). Families are encouraged to bring their own picnic baskets and join us on the Sunday for a day of superb schoolboy cricket.
