Joe Rokocoko wants to prove his worth after a ‘shock’ call-up to the All Blacks team for Saturday’s Test against the Wallabies.
The All Blacks wing didn’t expect to be considered after a poor performance against the Springboks in Durban three weeks ago. However, Rokocoko’s two tries in Auckland’s NZ Cup win over Northland was enough to convince the All Blacks selectors.
‘I’m as shocked to be here as you are,’ he told stuff.co.nz. ‘I was just ready to be a support crew. I’m shocked and excited at the same time.
‘I’ve had an enjoyable week this week. I’ve felt pressure but I’m also relaxed.’
Coach Graham Henry has had some harsh words for the experienced players this week regarding a lack of passion. This has inspired Rokocoko to regain his try-scoring form.
‘Graham really nailed it on the head when he wanted to make sure that the guys who had been there for a long time still had the desire and that we had to question ourselves. I went back and tried to answer that. I had to take that and accept the mistakes I made.
‘I just want to be consistent. If I could finish my All Blacks career well known for being consistent that would be good.’
