Centre Robert Ebersohn and prop Coenie Oosthuizen have signed a one-year extension on their contracts with the Cheetahs.
Ebersohn, who decided to play for the Springbok Sevens team instead of in the Super 14, has featured regularly for the Cheetahs in the Currie Cup. After impressive performances this season, the Baby Bok has caught the attention of the Sharks, Bulls and WP. Oosthuizen, who is highly regarded by scrum coach Os du Randt as one of the Cheetahs’ biggest prospects, has also been linked with a move to the Sharks and Province.
However, the deal will keep the players at the Bloemfontein union until 2010, ending any speculation on their short-term future.
Assistant coach Hawies Fourie says he’s delighted with the players’ decision to stay with the Cheetahs.
‘This is very good for us,’ he told keo.co.za. ‘Over the years, we have lost quality players to the bigger unions, but these guys want to stay with us.’
Oosthuizen says Du Randt had a big influence on his decision.
‘I’m very happy here and being mentored by Os is a big honour. I’m really enjoying it,’ he said. ‘This is a big step in my rugby career and I do see a future for me here at the Cheetahs.’
