Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts is confident Juan Smith will be fit to face Australia on Saturday.
Smith injured his ankle in the Boks’ victory over Australia at Newlands, and hadn’t trained before Monday’s session after the Boks re-convened on Thursday. If ruled out, Schalk Burger was set to be named in the No 7 jersey, but now coach Peter de Villiers will have to decide between Burger and Heinrich Brussow when he announces his team on Thursday.
Like Smith, wing Odwa Ndungane (hip) also came through training, while the only concern is Danie Rossouw – who injured his hamstring.
‘Danie picked up a mild hamstring strain during the scrumming on Saturday and we’ll be managing him this week,’ said Roberts. ‘We’ll give Danie as long as possible to recover.’
‘He went for a scan today [Monday] and there’s no disruption, just a little bleeding in the muscle. We’ll be managing him and we’re not too concerned.’
