The Cheetahs stand a better chance of keeping top players in Bloemfontein after securing a new sponsorship deal with Klopperts/Expert.
The central union loses senior players every season either to other South African provinces or overseas clubs. President Harold Verster has told this website on numerous occasions that Free State simply can’t afford to retain the big names, but this sponsorship may signify the turning of the tide.
According to OFM, Kloppers/Expert have come on board with the aim of keeping big players at Free State.
The Cheetahs have lost a number of top players in the past two years. Duane Vermeulen and Willem de Waal are playing for Western Province while Jannie du Plessis is at the Sharks. Promising centre Alwyn Hollenbach is turning out for the Lions.
Scrumhalves Noel Oelschig and Michael Claasssens are flourishing overseas. Oelschig is the goal-kicker at Stade Francais while Claassens was recently awarded the captaincy at English club Bath.
