Lelia Masaga became the sixth All Blacks player to be ruled out for the rest of the season.
The explosive wing had a shoulder operation on Tuesday, which will keep him out of action until next year’s Super 14.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a successful season, with impressive displays for the Chiefs in the Super 14 this year that earned him his first and only All Blacks cap against Italy in Christchurch.
However, he spent the rest of the year sidelined with the injury and went for surgery after his shoulder failed to respond to medical treatment.
Masaga joins the injured list of centres Richard Kahui and Isaia Toeava, locks Ali Williams and Bryn Evans and hooker Keven Mealamu, who will not recover in time for their fixtures against the Wallabies in Japan, the tour to Wales, Italy, England and France and the exhibition match against the Barbarians.
