Alcohol mixed with drugs just fuels the situation and rugby is merely an exscuse to vent their already aggressive temprament.

There are some places in South Africa where this problem will never go away. I genuinely feel sorry for these people but the only alternative is to build a rugby club away from those areas to circumvent the rot that these people attract.

According to the article and reading in between the lines, it shows that 95% of the violence in South African rugby is restricted to less than 5% of rugby’s priphery and unions which are totally insignificant.

From personal experience, well over 50% of kak is thanks to alcohol fuelled rage and taunts from the crowds.

I fail to see how Bach’s 7th symphony is going to calm crowds in platteland rugby clubs.

That said, the complete social undertaking is massive and I wish this guy all the best, but let’s be frank about the issues and address them head-on.

More importantly, let’s name, shame and punish the guys that does not play by the rules.

It is a crying bloody shame the club that was suspended does not want to name the culprits…

Speaks volumes for their committment…

Uphold the ban if that is the case, the community will soon get sick of the transgressors that denies them a very basic right in the sense of rugby participation and enjoyment but they have to take responsibility first.

I fear it’s not as simple as pissant believes, though. You cannot simply blame it on alcohol. There are the further issues of poverty, social set-up, broken families, gangsterism, drugs, bravado, victimisation and the like. Dave has identified some of these and I’mm sure he’ll do a great job. He has already worked wonders with the “struisies”.
