Cockerill banned for ref rant
26 Nov 2009
Leicester coach Richard Cockerill has been suspended for four weeks for verbally abusing a referee.
The incident happened in the Tigers’ LV Cup match against Newport on 14 November, and although it hasn’t been revealed exactly what Cockerill said, he’ll not be allowed any involvement with his players or officials on match days until 23 December.
Cockerill pleaded guilty to two offences of abuse ahead of an RFU disciplinary hearing and has also been fined £2000.
‘I said a few things in the heat of the moment against Newport, and I have apologised to those concerned,’ Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury. ‘You can’t do those sort of things. It is unacceptable.
‘It’s not good enough from me, and I should set an example. I will take the consequences and it won’t happen again.’

We mustnt let Rugby degrade to the level of soccer, so good that he is punished and realizes his error.
The main reason I dont ever watch soccer is because of all the theatrics.

A couple of refs needed a good slap against the head, never mind a bit of verbal abuse. Hope you are reding this Mr. Kaplan, you twat! At least you made up for some of your sins in the CC final. **** decissions went the other way for a change.

Unlucky man! If PDV ever ranted at a ref, everyone would just think he’s probably choked on a chicken bone he’d scoffed too quickly.
Have your say
