England take series spoils

England have won the five-match ODI series 2-1 after yet another washout at Kingsmead.

Not a ball was bowled in Friday’s decider as the weather that’s afflicted Durban for the last few weeks had the final say. South Africa were ultimately denied a chance to fight for a series draw which would have given them a much needed boost ahead of the coming Test series.

This ODI series victory is also the first by a visiting team in the last seven years. England beat South Africa the last time these two met in a limited-overs tournament back in 2008.

The first Test in Centurion starts on 16 December.

If I was convenor of selectors the side would be slightly different but guaranteed to pack a serious punch. For starters our best middle order batsman (tests) will take his rightful place at 5 and Bouch will receive a golden handshake for his wonderful service but this is real test cricket so no sentimental selections or player requests. Just simple picking the best lineup.
    Smith
Petersen (based on one day form and he IS an opener)
    Amla
    Kallis
    Prince
    Duminy
    De Villiers (wk)
    Morkel/Tsotsobe
    Harris
    Steyn
Ntini (only because of the Eng lefthanders)/Parnell

Parnell/Tsotsobe for left arm variation perhaps.
Morkel if he lands in the right areas will be a problem with his bounce.
Looking at the squad picked the selectors will not be able to beat my lineup.

    @Shakes:

good team I both Tsotsobe and Morkel good vs lefties… if Ntini doesn’t fire in the first two tests we might see both..

hahaha. You cant be serious. You’ve left out the greatest all rounder on the planet!

Plus Tsolekile? You cant be serious… He’s shown some decent form in the 4 day comp but no, he’s not up to international level.

But i’m going to stop there caus it’s clear you’re team is a weak joke.

De Villiers doesn’t want to be keeper and you don’t work with the players day in and day out so your selection is just prima facie

WP, how do you rate Dhoni? I see he scored 100 not out.

    I think he’s a quality cricketer nama…

He’s a good keeper and a brilliant batsman. He always looks in control when he’s batting and he looks as though he can easily switch from a proper batsman just pushing it around to bludgoining the ball out of the park.
