While the Boks finished the year on a disappointing note, it didn’t change the fact that in 2009 they added the Tri-Nations trophy, Lions series trophy, Freedom Cup and Mandela Plate to the Webb Ellis Cup that they won in 2007. The Bulls, of course, claimed the Super 14 title for the second time while the Springbok Sevens team finally got their hands on the World Series trophy.

To celebrate these achievements, SA Rugby magazine assembled all of the above silverware and took a unique cover photo that makes its new bumper 150-page edition a collector’s one.

Also in the new issue:

– Why selection and tactical blunders were to blame for the Springboks’ disastrous European trip

Jaque Fourie on shrugging off life’s disappointments, his contract dispute with the Lions, and mentoring Juan de Jongh at the Stormers

– Why the Southern Kings will only see Super Rugby if Saru makes some strong decisions and there is unity between the three provincial unions that make up the franchise

JeanOver a pint of Guinness, Munster centre Jean de Villiers talks about broadening his horizons, chirping Ronan O’Gara and his plans to return to South Africa in 2010

Congrats to the Boks on a (mostly) outstanding year. They were Kings of 2009, no question. Every match will be ultra-tough in 2010 though as every team now aims to dethrone the Boks.

NZ have already begun the dethroning job and:
    - have taken over as world #1 ranked side
    - have surged into the lead on the 7′s circuit
    - are the world under 21 champs.

Expect every team to come at the Boks ultra-hard. That’s what happens when you have been at the top.

    Aus 2001.

    Brumbies won the Super 12
Aus held the Bledisloe and 3N
World Cup holders at the time
Won the Lions series in 2001

Cant get details of the Sevens in 2001 though.

well done to all players, teams, coaches and management involved… it’s be a good year…

    however…

it’s one thing to become champions…

it’s quite another to remain champions…

I wish South Africa would demonstrate the focused, ruthless determination to win IN SPITE of being champions… but in true SA tradition… once we’re on top we become complacent and exhibit a sense of entitlement which sees us have our asses handed to us time and again…

  • 12.WOLFMAN21: Reply to this comment

@jondood: If I remember correctly they didn’t start the ranking system until some time after 2001, and I am not sure if the 7′s had the World Series trophy at that stage, so all in all, I would suggest that the success of the Aussies in 2001 and before can be compared with the Boks of 2007.

The Aussies went on to the final of the 2003 World Cup-in order for this Bok group to cement their legacy, they need to be competitive next year and in 2011.

  • 16.TheTackler: Reply to this comment

#1 ranking isn’t the same as peaking. For NZ regaining the #1 ranking is merely resuming regular business as usual, nothing worth resting on one’s laurels about.

  • 17.WOLFMAN21: Reply to this comment

@TheTackler: It is regular business for them, and come 2011, New Zealand will finish the year as number 1 after having been knocked out of the semi-finals at the World Cup.

NZ may have finished first, but they lost 4 games-3 of which were against the Boks and I doubt that you Kiwis consider it to be a greatly successful year. Not a lot of players came through and NZ are still overly dependent on Richie and Carter.

It will be good for you if you win in 2011 (overdue) and I will be the first to congratulate you-I don’t have an issue if my team doesn’t win, and I’d far rather have NZ winning than Ireland, England or Wales.

Totally agree with you Wolf,we need our Carter and McCaw,but in honsety any team that had those 2 in it would be in the same boat. Find for me this year was Cory Jane, even though i have seen him play for Wellington and the sevens its good that he has been in the ABs team,he is the future for fullback,Mils is hanging on to that position by reputation only, just the way i see it.
And it wasnt a good year for us,started of by being outplayed in the 3 games vs the Boks, only was saved by playing good against the Ozzies. Our end of the year tour was a huge success, which took away the pain of being outplayed and gunned in the tri nations

    This from News24

    Jean’s Irish stay short-term?

    Jóhann Thormählen

Bloemfontein – Springbok centre Jean de Villiers has said that it is too early to speculate about his future following reports in Irish circles that his move to Munster will only be a short-term one.

The Irish Independent this week likened the Boks’ involvement with Munster with that of Australian flank Rocky Elsom, who only played for Irish side Leinster for one season.

De Villiers says that his contract has been drawn up with an option to continue playing after a year.

However, with the World Cup coming up in 2011 and the selectors not keen to pick overseas-based players, the Irish may well be correct.

“I will only make a decision next year,” said De Villiers.

He added that he is enjoying it a lot at the Irish side and is not looking back for a minute.

De Villiers said that it is obviously a dream to play for the Boks again, but that he is only focusing on Munster for now.

He does not want to comment about the World Cup in 2011 and a possible return.

“I have learned not to plan that far ahead. My experiences of World Cups have not been that good,” he said.

In 2003, De Villiers was injured shortly before the tournament, while in 2007 he played in only one game before having to withdraw.

The 28-year-old will therefore be keen to play in a full tournament.

“I’m just concentrating on Munster for now and will see how things look next year,” he said.

While De Villiers was one of the Boks’ best backline players in their recent game against Ireland, the view has been expressed that his impact at Munster has not been big enough.

He only got game time in the 74th minute of Munster’s match against Perpignan in Limerick on Friday night. Munster won the game 24-23.

@WOLFMAN21: Can’t really see a dependence on two of the world’s best players as a bad thing.

The boks lost Jean, Frans and Pierre spies for the EOYT and couldn’t by a win.

All teams struggle to find replacements for regular test players when they are not available.

The Boks should rather see 2010 as an oppertunity to beat the ABs iith Carter and McCaw playing – as this will be the team playing in the 2011 WC in Nz.

    @Hurricane:

I actually think the Boks and the Blacks are suffering the same sickness, that of being one-trick ponies.

Amazing to say that of the Blacks but that is the effect Graham Henry in my mind had (has) on them, turned them into one-trick ponies and something Peter de Villiers, after all the promise of 2008 and promise of evolution in our game, fell back to the tricks of 2007 which on the day, can be easily worked out and countered by top teams.

Of course the physical edge and competitive nature of our teams will always make them tough to beat, but it hardly leaves them with an aura around them which makes them invincible – something the Blacks have been for much of the last 20 years.

Teams I see evolving into something special is Ireland, France and Australia.

@Hurricane: I think you’ll find the #1 spot didn’t exist as the rankings weren’t introduced until 2003, England being the first holders of the #1 spot. Not that it would have been worth anything without winning the World Cup in ’03 (which we promptly did).

  • 44.Puma: Reply to this comment

@PissAnt: 40 – Morning PissAnt, I sort of feel the same there. With Ireland and France. Come world cup time they going to be tough to beat.

Australia under Deans have not done as much as I thought they would have by now. Then they do have a young side and next year will tell us more.

Ireland with Gert Smal as their forward coach too. They out played us there. They did however beat us on penalties. (this time, next time it could be tries) They do love to keep the ball in hand and run. My feeling had we had Fransie playing against Ireland we just may have won.

We missed 4 kicks at goal. Not the way I want to win but every kick that you miss costs huge. 2 of those kicks were very difficult for Morne think it would have suited Fransie those kicks. Ag, why is he playing his rugby in France at the age of 22. So crazy to have lost him so young.

Just think ABs wont fear France in a pool game it is not at the knock out stages, my feeling they will beat them and top their pool. Think we will top ours too. For now it looks like it will be a AB/Bok semi.

    @Nils:

    Oh…

It is important to first off mention I do not buy this ‘The Boks play a boring brand of rugby’ – winning is winning, end of story.

The problem with the one-trick pony Boks I have a problem with is not the winning, it is sustaining a winning brand or culture.

In pre-match analysis you do planning of your opposition, in which you identify and try to eliminate threats.

If a team you play against have limited number of threats, it is easy to counter.

Of course it does not necessarily mean you will beat them if they do what they do well, which is what the Boks do, but you won’t also always win, or sustain winning because one, there are teams who are as physical as us, and have as good kickers out of hand and great back 3’s to counter our only method of attack or play and second, injury disruption, player fatigue etc which will see you lose key players to execute plan A and then you are in kak.

A team like France, Ireland and Aus can lose two to three senior guys and still present a massive threat due to the brand of rugby they play, or presenting multiple threats, but take Carter and McCaw out of NZ, and Victor and Fourie for arguments sake out of the Boks, and we have problems.

Under Henry, I do not see the All Blacks getting any better or adding dimensions to their current way of playing. Under him they have become very much a one-trick pony type of team who if they lose a key player, are sorted of in kak.

Earlier years other teams followed the AB’s who continually evolved and changed the landscape of rugby – these days, this is not the case.

Maybe your argument shows also how good those players (Dan, Richie, Victor, Fourie) are if their presence (or absence)definitely shows on team’s performance. Two sided sword – it’s a good thing and bad in the meantime.

  • 85.Big Hit: Reply to this comment

@cane: think you might be confusing Jenkins with Jones,I went for mobility over scrummaging in the front row. If I went for scrummaging Robinson (Aus) and Murray (Sco) would probably be my choices.

Carter hardly played this year (injury and suspension), Jones was excellent in the 6N, Lions series and AIs.

Agreed Cane,to compare any fly half to Dan Carter is a joke but to compare Stephen Jones to Dan the man is just insulting a man’s intelligence.. I think the end of year tour showed how much we missed Juan Smith, very under rated player.cant wait for him to get back from injury..

  • 88.rangerman: Reply to this comment

hard to put genia in at 9 when he played in a team that got beaten by scotland and won only one game in the tri nataions surely?

but then the team that you selected, cane me old gabber, had more kiwis than saffas and we all know that only you and the irb could possibly find a way to rate the ab’s higher than the boks after going down:

    3-0.

    bloem
    durbs
hamilton (nothing happens there according to my coach, and he has seen the world and beaten the best).

its not really a big deal though, FdP and the other saffas you left out could maybe form a baabaas side to take on your team……

  • 89.Ratel Brussow : Reply to this comment

@cane: Nice one. I can see your reasons although I’d have a number of bok players like, Brussow, Spies and FDP in there at 7, 8, 9, but this is due to obvious bias! However what I cannot reason with is Sivi (I can’t defend, kick or catch a high ball and my positional play is shocking) Sitivatu, surely JPP outplayed him and I’d pick Shane Williams over him and Cueto, there is no question in my mind that Kearney is the best 15 in the world right now.

@cane: when are you going to forget about the rankings and look at the actual rugby, SA shamed NZ and Aus this year, they were runaway winners of the 3N absolutely dominating the Kiwi and Australians who looked hapless by comparison yet you want me to pick them?

  • 100.Ratel Brussow : Reply to this comment

@cane: If you can blindly recognise Ritchie (I played like 2 decent games this year) McCaw as IRB player of the year, then you have to recognise SA (3-0) as the team of the year, therefore 46% of the team could easily be SA, but we’ll let you keep your captain in the mix, cause he has played so well for many years, even if this year wasn’t one of them.

“the boks have peaked to early”

it’s amusing to see that the jibes most saffas use to explain new zealand’s now chronic failure at the world cup have mileage with some of the kiwi fans.

The premature use of some of these jibes betrays the extent anguish felt by those who erroneously attempt to paint the boks with the same brush.

sheriff has got it right, us saffas cannot even begin to comprehend the amount of angst that is being felt by new zealanders after thw demolishing the bulls dished out on the chiefs and the whitewash by the springboks this year.

  • 112.rangerman: Reply to this comment

@Transformation: the kiwis are just getting a taste of what they have unfortunately dished out to us saffas for so long.

like most saffas, i will only be satisfied if the boks can begin to translate a good season into a run of good seasons.

that consistency seems to elude us sadly.

  • 206.Puma: Reply to this comment

@grant10: 100% agree. How we let such a huge talent go is so daft. Could be our greatest FB or inside centre. Plays both well.

Remember how well he just took to inside centre in the world cup? Like a duck takes to water. He was superb and only just turned 20. How we lost this brilliant youngster to a club in France at 22 is a dreadful shame for SA rugby.

Will always remember those monster kicks against the ABs this year too and those drops against Oz at Newlands that won us the game. Actually without those kicks in both game we would have lost.

Fransie come home. Is there any sponsor to sponsor him like some sponsor is doing for Victor? We need him here not in France.

What a huge loss to lose Fransie at the age of 22. Would have been our greates FB or inside centre. Just needed time to play in one postion for a few years instead they messed him about far too much. Hope he is back for the WC 2011.

  • 231.Puma: Reply to this comment

@Karoolander: 224 – Well then that is a shame as that ended his career really. After that he was never ever the same player.

Then Mallett too should never have taken him to the 99 world cup. He was still injured and think that injury turned into a really chronic injury that bothered him always after. Somehow think if he never went to the 99 world cup he would have recovered from that op he had on that knee. That is why I always say never ever play with even a niggle of a injury it has to be 100%. Otherwise it never ever heals proper ever. Becomes chronic.

  • 243.Puma: Reply to this comment

@Johan Fourie: 233 – Johan that was the biggest mistake by Mallett for sure. You can never just drop your captain a few months before the world cup. Teich was playing better than Skinstadt at the time too. Skinstadt had had that op and was not 100% fit, was still getting over the op and to take him to the world cup in that condition was stupid. Then to have another captain was crazy too.

We now may have 3 world cups if that never happened. We also should have played Honiball against the Aussies in the semi and not JdB even though those 5 drops against England was brilliant. Oz was onto us with Jannie at FH. Should have started with Honiball in that game.

  • 244.byoboy: Reply to this comment

@Puma: ja those three massive kicks were sheer brilliance the old boys need to persuade him to come back for 2011. For 12 we got JdF (hopefully back) and WO. The one position which we need good back up is 10!!

  • 245.Johan Fourie: Reply to this comment

@byoboy: Yes. We are wasting guys like Pienaar, Steyn, Hougaard, Russel etc. That is why these guys should go play somewhere else, settle in a position, and then come back. France is the perfect place for F.Steyn to develop. For Pienaar and Hougaard too. There they can focus on their game, away from all the media and fans. Plus, because of the language barrier, they wont go jol all the time.

With the Frenchie at 10 for the Sharks will Plum play Ruan at 10? Even though the Frenchie has done well at 10 one has to question whether it was the right choice for Plum to have imported like that.

In fact he said he should have had BS at 7 to accomodate GT. Much like PDV is doing now with JS?

@Puma: Yes, it was 98. Carel coached the team in 97, lost the Tri-Nations, but won the last test against Australia by 61-22. In 98 we won the Tri-Nations under Mallet, and lost against England on 17.

  • 322.cab: Reply to this comment

yeah Honiball was an incredibly nice guy by all accounts. almost painfully shy< but incredibly tough

  • 323.Puma: Reply to this comment

@cab: Cabbie, Thought we should have won that one. De Beer did play in the quarter and semi of that world cup though. I thought that De Beer should have been dropped for the semi against Oz. Oz had worked us out after seeing those 5 drops against England. Honiball should have played in the semi. Saying that, do remember we had to equalize in the end to go to extra time and De Beer got a almighty kick to go over right on the 80th min.

Puma, I think it was 99 we got stopped at 17, but will have to check. Mallett is one of the most underrated Bok coaches in history, I hope he gets involved again in some way in Bok rugby – he has my vote for DOR.

  • 325.Johan Fourie: Reply to this comment

Had to stand on a chair to see, well quite a few of us had too…..hahaha. Was worth it. At the time never seen us play such great rugby. That was Carel’s last game with the Boks. We went on from there with Mallett.

Mallett did do well with them but who knows was it Carels game plan? Then knowing the kinda bloke Mallett is probably no. He is very much his own man.

As for this story my take is that a cabinet full of silverware is giving us a false sense of security. We have a number of problems like father time taking it’s toll on a few players especially our captain who will be lucky to get to 2011, problems in frontrow especially at 3, one dimensional gameplan (so-called playing to our strengths) that would have been exposed if DC was not injured and GH selected the right players to deal with the fourie du preez barrage (read garry owen). We need to adapt and vary our game. Leave it as it is and we will go into reverse throughout 2010 and beyond.

i sometimes think there is too much sentiment about who should have played 10 in that 99 rwc semi.
the players (allegedly) voted for jannie over lem because of the 5 drops in the quarters.

but we should not forget that pressure kick from jannie on full time to keep us in the game.

    lem’s goalkicking was always suspect.

to me it’s a moot point whether lem would have won the game for us.

Are we turning into effing poms? They still carry on about winning the soccer world cup in 1966 and sure as **** stinks they will carry on about 2003 until armafukkingeddon, the only thing that shut them up about 1997 was this years Lions tour.
I suggest we shut up and wait until next season which will hopefully be as good but in all honesty everytime the Boks have a good season it is almost always followed with a season or two of abject disappointment.
The true test for this “great” side is to do what no Bok side has done since re-admission and that is to string a couple of consecutive great seasons together. Maybe once that ******* off our back we can begin to get a little boastful.

Thing is holding the #1 spot and being the RWC champs are 2 different accomplishments, both are really important tags to have and hold.IT seems to be a struggle for ther RWC holders to keep the #1 spot as well,SA have proved it and we all know England looked like Chumps for well lets say the last 6 years after the RWC win in 2003

@Heavens Game: What rubbish about the travel schedule All Blacks go to Europe for seven weeks and go undefeated in all test matches and losing to a very strong Babaas team, I guess you have similar excuses like we have for the 95, 07 World Cup losses…I look at the 91,99,03 losses as just beaten by a better team.

  • 432.marvinb: Reply to this comment

@cab: Yes the All Blacks could beat the current Boks only if we get Hayman, Jack, Williams back into the tight five, I believe we are stonger enough in the backs maybe if Richard Kahui returns along with Aaron Mauger along with Weepu than we are set to teach the Boks who is the real masters of Rugby Union.

    1. Woodcock

    3. Hayman
    4. Thorn ?
    5. Williams
    6. Kaino
    7. McCaw
    8. Reade

doesn’t look like a World Cup winning pack to me, 6 of the 8 were blasted away by the Boks this year. An injury to any one of Hayman, Williams, McCaw or Thorn and you may as well not bother turning up.

Big Hit,as you know w team with injuries to 3 top players can cause problems, its been you excuse for the last 6 years for a pathetic England team. By the way 6 of the 8 were not blasted by the Bok team, the damage was not done in the forwards,it was the Boks all round game and there game plan at the time won them the 3N,and we played average in the 3N,**** happens. But once again we showed who is the best team in the world by hammering all up in the NH. Outplayed in the forwards come scrum time but games are not won with a good scrum,as we showed.

if you “showed us who is the better team” by losing 3-0 and then beating other teams then maybe you will get a chance to do so in 2011……oops, you will face us in the semis???

    good luck with that.

Can you please show me where i said we wernt beaten??

Some of you guys are so defensive, all i said was we went hammered in the forwards as Big HIt suggested,SA played an overall game that was better than what NZ could combat and had to offer.
And by the way Ranger, wasnt it you who in 2007 the Boks would have beaten the NZ in the RWC cos of SA beat a team that beat France, even though we hammered you twice in 2007.no difference really is their?

You really think I care two hoot’s about who goes which way down which alley way you got no clue about what my standpoint is. My stand point is simply the opposite of absolute adulterated lies, you and some those other poor fools don’t actually realise what it is you trying to find out, because none of you are actually sincerely honest or true with yourselves, you’ll continue to beat about your bush of delusion till you can’t beat no more.

Do you honestly think that truth needs pitiful little nobody me to stand up for it, you gotta be kidding yourselves, its got nothing to do with what is true or not its simply got to do with chicken sh’t under handed vindictive lying deceiving twat *** cowards that are crying out for someone or something to call their falsified bs bluff and smack their high and might arrogance and set the record straight, but bottom line is they even too chicken sh’t cowardly for that.

You don’t have too much clue about what is really going down, you standing out on the perifery and trying to make out your deductions without any of the ingredients to determine your scientific model conclusions. You really think it comes down to some chemical adjustment of the brain function you barking up the wrong tree . . once again. Best you can try do is calm your over agitated brain and try think clearly for a little bit, and if you truly reckon you are anything of a real scientist you proclaim yourself to be then set out your aim determine your method find the clearly applicable apparatus to reach your conclusive result. Seems to me you got lost in the white water of all and sundry’s churning delusions, now you more confused and deluded yourself than eves before. You can’t take the heat of the experiment then get out the kitchen fast because if at all you think you are a real questioning scientist then by jove you gonna get eaten alive by your own inquisitiveness.

@skopskiet: @ 457 Skoppie I guess the point is that the manner in which the message is delivered too often detracts form the essence of truth in the message. An example that comes to mind is Luke. To some there is a lot of truth in the message he brings but the manner in which it is delivered causes some to ignore it or pull it apart on the basis of their prejudices/beliefs or standing. The same applies to the Crusaders etc. Are we able to objectively hear the message and decipher the truths without prejudice to the message bringer.

Today would also have been the birthday of the great composer Beethoven. It is also the birthday of Bennie Anderson who was the mastermind behind many of the songs by the ancient middle of the road group Abba. And it is also Puma’s birthday.

Congratulations Puma, if you see this, I hope you had a great day and that their will be many more.

those that betray trust and honor of association know, and if they don’t then they should never be afforded that trust to begin with, just like someone who offered his trust to his near disciple once and then got sold out for a pocket of silver, trust should never be taken for granted or lightly, there are some in this world under the guise of open minded free thinking enquiry who will stoop to the lowest depths of human dishonor to uphold their own infatuated arrogant self opinionated high handed delusions about themselves and of others all in the name of freedom of transference of intellectual information which they mistake for some fake form of intelligence or enlightenment.

No one should ever trade love or trust lightly, its a commodity that is far too easily abused by the downright debased self righteous high handed intelligentsia as if they have free access to knowledge when it couldn’t be further from the truth, they think knowledge is something you glean in test tubes or newspapers or information websites or through chit chatting away like we doing now. True knowledge you only get as a transference of love, from one who has it to give to someone else who is seeking it. All other second grade bumph isn’t knowledge at all just highfaluting intellectual information which is like chaff when the wind of reality blows it disappears like the second grade information dust it is.

I doubt, therefore I think. I think, therefore I am. Skopskiet – we all have our subjective palaces of philosophical thought we take refuge in. The key to that palace is tolerance of other beliefs. We can not describe ourselves as men of reason and advocate ourselves as philosophers if we do not accord that freedom. Opinions are legion, and open to attack – by somehow seeking to exclude an opinion from attack is to make that opinion baseless. Let us revel in our unique diverseness, accord others the freedom we so crave, and do so eloquently. For, in the words of Sir Walter Raleigh, What is our life but a play of passion?

You’re a wee baby my boy, when you got lessons to learn then learn them, rather learn to shut yr trap unless its about catching game for biltong.

What is our life, but a play of passion? Our mirth the music of division. Our mothers’s wombs the tiring-houses be, where we are dressed for this short comedy. Heaven the sharp judicious spectator is, who doth sit and mark still thosr that act amiss. Our graves that hide us from the searching sun, are like drawn curtains when the play is done. Thus, playing, march we to our latest rest. Only we die in earnest, that’s no jest.

Just my small opinion before I go to sleep. Anyone who claims they have known true love will also know that it goes hand in hand with true forgiveness and the ability to overlook deficiencies in the light of the expectations, images and prejudices we so often carry around with us. The inability to forgive will always diminish the ability to love because none of us are perfect and we cannot expect perfection of another.

@skopskiet: @cab: Look guys, I know this is non of my business, so I’ll keep it short. From all the above I take it that non of you have ***** in your lives. That is fine, we all live our own lives. But as a Christian I feel obliged to say this to you. ***** died for your sins, for you Cab, and for you Skopskiet. He knew you 2000 years ago. He loves both of you, you are His children, so that makes you brothers. Nothing good can come from this way of behaviour. Or, let me rephrase that; humanly, nothing good can come from this, but spiritually God can intervene and produce spectacular, beautiful things. How did you guys sleep last night? Did you have peace in your hearts? Or were you thinking hateful thoughts about each other, and what to say next.

Please guys, life is short. Enjoy it! Have love in your hearts. When you get upset, think about the real important things in life! Be patient, be kind, and have nothing but love and understanding.

As much as I respect your opinions on this, I ask of you to respect mine. I know this is not the platform for my viewpoints, so this is the last you will hear on this subject from me.

Lets just talk about the one thing we all enjoy: Rugby. And should we not agree with each other, let’s respect that too.

  • 740.skopskiet: Reply to this comment

Contrary to what most here will think there is no ill will from me towards cab on a personal level, however that does not detract from a sanctified principle of agreement that certain personal and private information was to be kept as such. So the apparent seething hatred you think you are seeing is the anger addressed at the effect of the issue and the breakdown of a qualified principle of a personal private agreement that has been broken. If cab wants to address me privately if at all he wants some closure on this issue he knows where to find me. But I’m not going one whisker out my way for that double dealing coward again. If he’s looking for any reprieve or closure here he has the means by which to address it. Again if his arrogance or cowardice or both is standing in his way, thats his own problem, not mine.

  • 741.Johan Fourie: Reply to this comment

@skopskiet: Honestly Skopskiet, you should have dealt with this differently. No one even realy knows what this is about (at least I don’d). All I know is that some very nasty things have been said. But it can all be fixed!

  • 745.skopskiet: Reply to this comment

Johan I know you are meaning very well and it is highly noble of you to try and soothe the flames of a destructive antithesis that has arisen between 2 individuals, but those two individuals are responsible for their own actions or responses towards each other. The Christian principle of turn the other cheek and forgive and forget is perhaps the ultimate ideal that humans should try aspire to, but there is a little more to some underlying issues that is plainly visible to most on the surface. This relates to personal trust on a reasonably deep seated personal level, so where a war of affliction is required to set out the parameters by which such principles get measured or upheld, perhaps it is such that these lines need to get drawn in the sand in order that those thinking that private and reasonably sacred information is not abused in such flagrant manner again.

The pity of it really is that the level of appreciation by some people for information that they themselves were delving for and seeking by theiown inquisitive mind is downright pure and dispicably lacking, they can never really begin to realize nor understand to what extent such confidence is readily offered, and if they are so deaf and dumb and blind to simple truths such as these then they have no right nor no place for any such appreciation by anyone let alone life at large.

  • 746.Johan Fourie: Reply to this comment

@skopskiet: Yes, I know you know that I mean well. I understand that you feel hurt and betrayed, but I’m sure Cab feels the same. It is never easy to fully understand where someone else is coming from. Sure, perhaps Cab did make a mistake, but hey, we all do! I’ve made some huge mistakes in my life which have caused much hurt, not only to other people, but to myself as well. I’ve said some bad things, and some bad things have been said to me. But there comes a time to forgive and move on. Personalities clash from time to time, and it is how we deal with that that will eventually determine how we move on in life. There are a number of ways to handle situations like this. One can get upset, retaliate, and say hurtfull and nasty things, or one can sincerely express one’s disaproval. The latter is always the best.

All us humans are basically the same, with the same basic needs. Humans have the need to be loved and to love, to be respected and to respect. We all just want to be happy! One day, on your dying bed, how much do you think this little battle would have influenced your life? It is nothing! It is silly, it has no influence what so ever on your life! It is like that guy who punched me on the nose in grade 2. At the time it was the biggest thing in my life, but today I laugh about it. Saw him the other day. What a great guy!

Christian principles are not easy. Doing the right thing has never been easy. But in the end, looking back, one realise that doing the right thing, despite the fact that it can be humiliating and hurtful at the time, is always the best to do.

Yes Johan this little nonentity skirmish means absolutely nothing one way or the other. It actually has very little to do with anything vaguely important either here or anywhere else. The issue is simply a lack of reverence or understanding for certain realities or principles in life that certain dumb *** numb skull idiots who believe they have a handle of rational understanding about certain aspects of this human existence yet have none at all. Scientific or rational or otherwise. You over state my so called hurt, I am hardly hurt, just emphatically angry at the sheer lack of appreciation and lack of understanding and lack of knowledge which leads these dumb struck idiot fools to believe in their atheistic or scientific notions that their blindness categorises the blindness of all humanity. The basic bottom line of the entire exercise is simply this, don’t ever get duped by these cold calculating heartless dead beat self centered trash eaters who feign sincerity while back at the ranch they couldn’t be less sincere or earnest or honest with you or with themselves if they tried. They are the biggest bull sh’ting deceiving lying under hand creeps under the sun, and its all put out as some kind of line of reasoning that they are indeed open minded but back at the ranch believe me they are the most despicable closed minded deceiving self infatuated fools ever born. I understand your well meaning in trying to get me to embrace your Christian principles, you really don’t need to fret or concern yourself in my direction at all, I’m pretty well taken care of even though from the outset to most on here it may seem to you totally the opposite, believe my I’m ok in spite of what others may think, if anything I’d suggest that they should seriously consider themselves, and that goes specifically to those who so honestly believe that they are the high up standing models of human virtue from whichever standpoint, religious, moral, rational or otherwise.

And yes Karoolander just for you I have to endorse it once again the black girls on that show were far more naturally beautiful than any of those white girls without any shadow of any doubt whatsoever, but unfortunate racially or ethnically motivated blind fools such as you would never ever be able to notice it.

@skopskiet: So you are racist to white girls then.

Just funny how dark girls want to look like white girls. Straightening hair and to be slim.

I didn`t see any natural girls. They all look westernised to me.

African girls is naturally big bottomed and definately no long straight hair.

    Heh?

Thanks slappes its time I gave up on this one man crusade of sticking my contrary head inside this non evolving lions den. Its better for me and for all concerned that I stop feeding the controversy and become all Pc and docile and accepting of the average status quo. Girls are girls mostly beautiful some more so than others and usually its the more natural who present more of their beauty to the world. I guess its asking a bit much for pre conditioned prejudice to ever recognize true natural beauty for what it is, color hardly comes into it far as I can see, it simply depends what ones eyes can or cannot see depending on what stimulus the brain feeds out.. Time I get the hell out this shadow show of illusion. Gone.

Reality is a funny thing which can be twisted and turned by all sorts of minds and psychologies. Emotions tend to skew reality. Never more so true in a country like SA, which is nurtured from the cradle on rhetoric, emotion and faith.

I believe there are two types of realies, a subjective reality and an objective reality. Ou Doos tends to the former, i too the latter. Bottomline, I find him narrowminded and intolerant, and no doubt the feeling is mutual so the pattern of fighting will continue.

But to be honest, its xmas and i;m sick of all the ****** skop, skiet and donner. Let keo start the new year with some fresh blood coming through rather than all these massive egos.

The blogosphere is a virtual reality with allsorts of virtual idenities and realities created, which I suspect are very different in many respects from most on here with only glimpses being seen of real personalities. That is part of the game and i suspect everyone knows what really counts is our behaviour to those nearest and dearest to us in reality, as opposed to virtual reality.

But more generally, i believe there are two types of realities, a subjective reality and an objective reality. He tends to the former, I too the latter. I tend to the latter because i believe we each have our own subjective realities which are skewed by our own personal conditioning and emotions. Reality can be twisted and turned by all sorts of minds and psychologies. Emotions tend to skew reality. Never more so than in a country like SA, where most are nurtured from the cradle on rhetoric, emotion and faith.

If its truth we’re after, i want it warts and all, he wants beauty. I dont want the emotion to overwhelm the truth, he’ll call it cold reasoning. These are fundamental differences in outlook. Bottomline, I find him narrowminded and intolerant, and no doubt the feeling is mutual so the pattern of fighting will continue.

But to be honest, i;m just tired of all the skop, skiet and donner. Time for new things.

But the place is becoming embroiled in emotion, stupid emotion, alot of it probably necessary as part of the healing process, its a good thing and i am happy its been hijacked by the left rather than the right. The only thing is the right knows their rugby, the left have no farking clue. But one is farting against thunder when the mob rules, but personally i find it very hard to fight against the left even when i think they totally mad-arse deluded.

I enter the debates cos i find it fascinating how someone can arrive at certain conclusions, which i often happen to agree with, from such a very different approach and that is what i try to understand.

Its a very precarious balance one needs to achieve.

I would like to see some changes in the laws for the new year.
    1. Limit the ping pong kicking game. Not sure how :)
Maybe limit one kick each then they have to run the ball.

    2. If kick at goal is missed, then defending team can ask for scrum form the mark where kick was taken.

    3. Yellow card for any player who dives on opposition player who has just scored a try.

    4. Off sides where player plays the ball close to his team mate but from an offside position. It should only be accidental offsides and no penalty

Don’t know what the purpose of bumping this thread up to the top of the front page is other than to rub some noses in their own ****, namely my own. I apologised once before to the general keo.co.za public for having been exposed to this fall out between 2 supposedly adult individuals out here on an innocent rugby site, and I’m apologishog again. This ugly war of words and diametrically opposed views should never have erupted out on this site, but it did, for better or for worse the dirty linen got aired out in public and the damage done. So for that you have my unreserved apologies for my part in the fiasco. I had already intended to participate less here before it happened and pity I didn’t heed my own conviction when the philosophically couched challenges took place and the consequential responses erupted. This was a personal and private altercation that should never have erupted or been exposed out in an open public forum such as this. However it did. Such are the consequences of airing personal views in public. Perhaps there’s a lesson out here for others as a result. Happy blogging. Leave your stepping stones behind something calls for you, forget the dead you left they will not follow you. Strike another match, go start anew.

Kickshoot, you demand so much attention for yourself and you have very bad people skills. This blog is not about you and your righteous anger and your consistent need to have others conform to your truth. In essence, you don’t share, you ram your garbage down out throats. The archetype of the dictator is strong in you. You refuse to see your own lesson on the matter. You lack self respect. You don’t know who reads this blog. You treat this blog as your free therapy session.

You like to set yourself up as the one that few understand, the outsider, but even that “pose” comes from a very egotistical, self indulgent and self important view of who you think you are.

You will never leave Keo. Don’t fool us. You are addicted to this blog. It is your drug, your fix, your mainstay. You have no idea that less is in fact more. You don’t get it. You are mainlining on Keo. The Skopskiet Show. You just can’t see it. So deep is your denial.

You have to be at war constantly needing to “prove something”. It’s so tiring and immature. It’s pathetic.

So now you will come back guns blazing, justifying this and that. Good luck to you but sometimes you should see that life is to be lived.

Kick-shooter, dip stick, what you know and what you think you know are two distinct opposites, basically I’m telling you that you don’t know all that much at all. So Mr Psychoanalyst, rather you psychoanalyse yourself, you’d be achieving far more for your own well being than trying to analyse me and getting it all totally wrong in the process. You wouldn’t and couldn’t know the beginning or the end of the tale so give it up as a poor effort at psychoanalysis, you might very well turn your attention on yourself and you might gain something out of it, concerning yourself with me gains you absolutely sweet f’all, or didn’t they teach you that much at psycho school?

As for the left high jacking the blog, rubbish! When I started blogging here it was like being in the heart of the AWB camp, with no rugby being discussed. Check RT for back slapping and braai recipes for proof. No rugga. So please! The sad part is that you see left and right bloggers. Not just bloggers period.

And talking about foul language. Your so called Right wing bloggers were the one’s that changed their nick to “skop skiet is a doos” and I myself have been subjected to the most disgusting things. Hands down. Filthy language goes to your so-called right wing bloggers.

You forgot the times when those same blogger used to threaten peoples jobs and threaten the moderator to ban certain people whose views they did not agree with. In addition, they called themselves the senior bloggers and would e-mail Roy privately about whom is next on their list. I even received private e-mails when I had never given the said blogger my information.

So. These days, everyone has a view and it can be expressed. No bans and no bullshit, no personal threats. If you cannot hack it in the argument, then you don’t get to threaten the moderator, or fellow bloggers.

I think it’s great that you only have drama with two bloggers that you feel ought to go. When I blogged here I could list far more, and believe me I’ve been subjected to real filth here.

Keo is a better place than it was, trust me. And the real garbage left and went to the RT.

what yourself and cab need to remember is that, there was a keo.co.za before the rt defectors logged on and there is still one now after their exodus!

I tend to agree with Brig v Zyl.

There are a lot of people on here spitting just the opposite at the moment.

The funny thing is they never actually mention anything aout rugby apart from gettin into discussions that has a flavour of colour/race involved.

I can’t understand what the issue is between the so called two site’s in any case.
I visit both quite regularly, doesn’t comment a lot. Time a bit restricted.
But never the less I find articles on both sites that are quite interesting from time to time.
I honestly don’t understand the competition mode created between the two sites ( keep in mind, by bloggers mainly ).

Pietman’s hateful comments are well documented and GBS’s threats are legendary. Ask WPTID.

@Winston: Winston. Please drop the act. Your comment was that Wayne Parnell ought to be in the team, but in order for that to happen, they must drop Ntini, because “unofficially” ie read (all in your head) one black player must be in the team and 3 coloured ones, and you said it’s a pity that Ntini must be there because it in fact prevents Parnell from being sellected. What you really saying is keep it to only 4, and replace a black one for another of colur, but please SA cricket must not touch your lilly white boys. Why must Ntini, go and not a white player to make room for Parnell? Are you realy that blinkered or are you just one of those sports fans that can only cope with so many players of colour on the pitch before you freak out!

And then it was Christmas. All the people rejoiced because a peacemaker was born.

May you and yours have the peace in your hearts.

Merry Christmas to all on Keo.
