A nation of champions
23 Dec 2009
South African rugby’s trophy cabinet has never been this full.
While the Boks finished the year on a disappointing note, it didn’t change the fact that in 2009 they added the Tri-Nations trophy, Lions series trophy, Freedom Cup and Mandela Plate to the Webb Ellis Cup that they won in 2007. The Bulls, of course, claimed the Super 14 title for the second time while the Springbok Sevens team finally got their hands on the World Series trophy.
To celebrate these achievements, SA Rugby magazine assembled all of the above silverware and took a unique cover photo that makes its new bumper 150-page edition a collector’s one.
Also in the new issue:
– Andries Bekker on his injury nightmare, learning from Victor Matfield and why the Stormers are better off without Luke Watson
– Why selection and tactical blunders were to blame for the Springboks’ disastrous European trip
– Jaque Fourie on shrugging off life’s disappointments, his contract dispute with the Lions, and mentoring Juan de Jongh at the Stormers
– Why the Southern Kings will only see Super Rugby if Saru makes some strong decisions and there is unity between the three provincial unions that make up the franchise
– Over a pint of Guinness, Munster centre Jean de Villiers talks about broadening his horizons, chirping Ronan O’Gara and his plans to return to South Africa in 2010
– A South African coach, South African businessman and a clutch of South African players have reversed the fortunes of Saracens
PLUS: Your ultimate guide to the 2010 Super 14 – all the teams, stats and facts

sweet mother of flying *******… was the blog always so hostile and I only noticed recently or did it just become so hostile?
16 Dec 2009, 23:27 pm
@carol: I see Ed is edging you on number of posts?
16 Dec 2009, 23:28 pm
SpringbokSarah, I’m only getting started! Take heed of my admonition to you to hold on to your youthful years, we do not have the luxury of asking for a repeat.
16 Dec 2009, 23:29 pm
@carol: roflmao, no I always have to concentrate extra hard when reading WPTID’s and Skop’s posts
16 Dec 2009, 23:29 pm
@Johan Fourie: What will the ‘signal’ be? Heheheheh
You may have to be quite obvious!!
16 Dec 2009, 23:29 pm
@SpringbokSarah: Since I’ve been here, mostly “undercover hostile”. Till today!
16 Dec 2009, 23:29 pm
It had absolutely sweet f.all to do with this blog site and it still doesn’t. The fact that its been exploded out here in broad soap opera daylight for all and sundry to partake in you can thank Mr big deal Scientist for his brave attempt at trying to teach me a lesson in ego manners. The only one that learned anything here should be him, and if he still hasn’t then he’s thicker and more steeped in rationalized illusion than even I thought .

(Now imagine that being delivered in a Highland Scottish accent, and you’re mirroring the sound in me head!)
16 Dec 2009, 23:30 pm
@WP Till I Die: you know, I could die tomorrow… and I would have age and wisdom to enjoy
16 Dec 2009, 23:30 pm

16 Dec 2009, 23:31 pm
@Johan Fourie: Well things have certainly changed since I 1st signed up
16 Dec 2009, 23:32 pm
@SpringbokSarah: We are two hours behind you at the moment, it is very inconvenient!!
When you next see Luke do ask him why he was texting during Percys farewell speech to the players!!
Was it a big offer coming in from Bath!!
16 Dec 2009, 23:33 pm
I’ve never seen a wild thing feel sorry for itself. A bird can fall, frozen, from the bow of a ship, without having once felt sorry for itself.
16 Dec 2009, 23:34 pm
@Johan Fourie: 601 – Puma is up in 3rd place and Ed in 4th, I keep missing Ed, with the time difference!
Big Ben will be unforgettable…!!
16 Dec 2009, 23:34 pm
@SpringbokSarah: …for the worst unfortunatly!
16 Dec 2009, 23:35 pm
@carol: not to worry, I already “shouted”(it was in an email, but there were caps and “!”) at him for that

@WP Till I Die: “You know the best thing about pain…It tells you you are still alive”
16 Dec 2009, 23:38 pm
the lesson that I’ve learned is to not trust under handed mind riddled rationalists with anything close to ones principles, they’ll stab you in the back with their self righteous attributes of free thinking deception all in the name of open handed skeptical enquiry the two faced double dealing liars. Thats the price one pays for leaving your principles out on your sleeve, don’t be a fool like I am, guard your self preserved principles with the jealousy of a saving miser, don’t ever think others are sincere about gleaning any truth from you because rest assured they are not, the g.dam under hand intellectually advanced riff raff conniving thieves.
16 Dec 2009, 23:39 pm
@carol: “…old duck”?
16 Dec 2009, 23:39 pm
@Johan Fourie: You are in the top 30 then, go on what number so I can peep?

@skopskiet: good grief I hope you’re not talking about me
16 Dec 2009, 23:40 pm
DH Lawrence, actually. The man was a visionary. Do yourselves a favour, read his poem ‘Snake’, written when he was living in Sicily.
16 Dec 2009, 23:42 pm
@WP Till I Die: but it looks so long
16 Dec 2009, 23:42 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
@Johan Fourie:
‘Me old duck’ is an Oxforshire form of address, men will call men or women ‘me old duck’!!
It is a friendly and familiar greeting…..
16 Dec 2009, 23:42 pm
@skopskiet: Honestly man, you remind me of that guy in Forrest Gump, that anti-war activist shouting racial stuff, and all that Forrest wants is his Jenny! Not saying you are saying anything racial now, the situation just reminds me of that scene.
16 Dec 2009, 23:43 pm
@carol: Not even in the top 30!
16 Dec 2009, 23:43 pm
@carol: roflmao and you lot say we talk funny
16 Dec 2009, 23:43 pm
@SpringbokSarah: The winter lasting until next April will test his resolve!!
You may get him back if he loves the sun!
16 Dec 2009, 23:45 pm
@WP Till I Die: I will look that up…..Actually DH Lawrence and Snake sounds as though it could be a bit ‘Lady Chatterley’!! Hahahah
16 Dec 2009, 23:45 pm
ranger boy you don’t know anger from love, nor honor from understanding, nor truth from fiction, nor reality from illusion, if I were you I’d try catch a little cray fish or three and shut the f’ak up about negativity or trust or love or anger, what you still got to learn about such attributes some are ready to put to bed already. You’re a wee baby my boy, when you got lessons to learn then learn them, rather learn to shut yr trap unless its about catching game for biltong.
16 Dec 2009, 23:46 pm
@carol: he loves the rugby, he loves the people… he just goes on and on about how beautiful it is… and I’m saying “take a friggen photo, save it as your wallpaper and get your butt back home” but no, he’s happy… so you know I’ve got to be happy for him, you know?
Anyways I’m out cheers all
16 Dec 2009, 23:47 pm
@rangerman: How is the ‘incubation’ going?
Must be getting close, hope the Landie is filled with fuel and you are ready to jump when necessary!!
16 Dec 2009, 23:48 pm
@SpringbokSarah: cheers!
16 Dec 2009, 23:49 pm
@SpringbokSarah: See you Sarah, happy holidays.
Enjoy being 16….Take the banter here with a pinch of salt, just us adults being infantile.
16 Dec 2009, 23:49 pm
@skopskiet: wow!
how wonderful it must be to be you, have all the answers at your fingertips eh?
again, i have no need to feed your anger buddy. worry a little less about how much i know and a bit more about how much you know skopskiet.
then you may find yorself on track.
good luck.

On Pain: I have been thinking about the meaning of pain. Pain is personal. Pain is the only thing we truly own. I like mine. Henry Rollins said that – another doomed youth.
16 Dec 2009, 23:50 pm
@carol:
going very well thank you.
i am, as always, on 24 hr call.
seasons greetings btw.
16 Dec 2009, 23:52 pm
never saw Forest Hump so can’t comment
16 Dec 2009, 23:52 pm
@WP Till I Die: Thats deep! And I’m still at “life is like a box of chocolates”.
16 Dec 2009, 23:53 pm
@skopskiet: Very unfair Skop, Rangerman often pops up with some great observations on human nature and some well timed comments.
What makes you the guardian of honour, trust,truth and understanding….how do you get the monopoly?
I happen to love the ‘Biltong and Bush Tucker’ spots, as do many others!
16 Dec 2009, 23:54 pm
@skopskiet: You should! Very simple, humble guy Forrest! He achieved everything in life without even trying!
16 Dec 2009, 23:56 pm
@SpringbokSarah: do not believe everything that carol says she has selective amnesia. The nasty things her best friends do she never mentions or questions yet she claims have been threatened.
16 Dec 2009, 23:56 pm
@carol: Monopoly? At Wall-Mart!
