Kallis cuts loose in warm-up

Jacques Kallis cracked 63 off 58 balls in a friendly fixture against the BCCI President’s XI on Wednesday.

The two-day match was called a draw but the outing provided a good opportunity for the Proteas batsmen to adjust to Indian conditions. Hashim Amla was also in fine form, scoring a more circumspect 72, while opener Ashwell Prince weighed in with 42.

The Proteas made 354 in response to the hosts’ 318. Both Kallis and Amla retired to afford batsmen down the order an opportunity. JP Duminy scored an important 39 when the spinners were on, an innings that will give him plenty of confidence considering his recent run of poor form.

The first Test in Nagpur starts this Saturday.

@grant10: JP Duminy then either Harris or J.Botha.

puma….i would go with J Botha….that Harris seems to have lost a bit of confidence it seems?

@grant10: Grant, I feel the same at the moment. Harris was not a his best during the England tour here. Then he did play very well in OZ. Duminy is bowling superb though. If he could get his batting back on track think we would have a brilliant all rounder in him.

Yip, we HAVE to play two spinners going to India. For now Duminy and Botha I would play those two. Must start with Parnell too. Think we missed something only playing him in the last test. He would have been great especially in Durbs. Gets plenty swing and can vary it. I do hope Parnell starts too.

@grant10: Grant, Yip so do I. Really hope he starts over there. Think he will do well in India. JP too. Bowling very well at the moment, once he gets his batting back up he is going to be a awesome all-rounder.

South Africa will probably have to rely on seamers in India. India plays spinners very well and one cannot expect below average spinners like Harris, Botha and Duminy to make much of an impact over there.

Steyn, Morne, and Parnell better be prepared to bowl all day long on batsmen friendly pitches. I expect the series to be drawn or India to win by 1-0.

They might produce a bunsen burner in one of the two tests, but then again they dont really have the spinners to exploit it fully. Like they used to have with Kumble.

They’ve got Harbhajan and Ojha or Mishra, but none of those will strike fear into our players. (Including an off formish Bhaji)

Oh and by the way what about mentioned Smith in the article, he got 45…

AB got a 30 odd to I think

Good to see our top order players having decent time in the middle.
