Ricky let off

Charges against Ricky Januarie for drunken driving have been withdrawn and he’ll only have to perform 20 hours of community service.

Januarie has been ordered to coach rugby in schools as part of his rehabilitation programme as part of the ‘diversion system’, where young offenders are punished for crimes without subjecting them to the trauma of a criminal trial and criminal record, if convicted.

Januarie crashed his car in September 2008 in the incident in Durbanville, and on two separate occasions failed to appear in court, but now has until 31 July to do his hours.

Januarie’s lawyer Frikkie Erasmus said that the conditions had been explained to the Springbok No 9 and that the charge would be re-instituted if he failed to perform the community service.

    @Taahirah:
    Andre Pretorius did not even have to do community service when he was arrested and charged for drunk driving a few years ago. The charges were just dropped. I still wonder why.

    I’m sure the fact that he was Bok flyhalf at the time did not play a role. :lol:

    I also believe in the tooth fairy.
