The Lions stuttered to a 24-17 win over the Pumas in Witbank on Friday.
In their final warm-up against the newly-promoted Currie Cup outfit, the Lions’ first-choice side outscored their hosts by four tries to two. Not much can be read into pre-season results, but there are more questions than answers for Dick Muir and co ahead of their clash with the Stormers next Saturday.
Despite the difficult weather conditions, the Lions again attempted to run most of the ball from all over the park and didn’t attempt any penalty kicks at goal.
In the earlier game also played in wet and windy conditions, the Lions’ second-choice side defeated the Leopards 38-30.
It will be interesting to see what side Muir selects for the Super 14-opener at Ellis Park next Saturday. This team clearly failed to impress, while making wholesale changes will mean his side hasn’t had any game-time together against a settled Stormers unit.
