Giteau will miss S14 opener

Keo.co.za brings you the latest news from Australia.
Giteau will miss S14 opener
Matt Giteau has been ruled out of the Brumbies’ first Super 14 game against the Western Force.
The Wallabies pivot picked up a quad strain last week and had a 50-50 chance of recovering time to face his former team in Perth.
Giteau was bracketed with flyhalf Matt Toomua (who had a short stint with WP last season), but the latter will start against the Force as the Brumbies announced Giteau’s exclusion from the line-up on Thursday.
Horwill set for new role
Ewen McKenzie will start Reds skipper James Horwill at openside flank against the Waratahs on Saturday.
Earlier this season, McKenzie said he believed the Wallabies lock could make a successful transition to flank under the new breakdown law interpretations.
After impressing the Reds head coach in the No 6 jersey during the pre-season, Horwill will now make his first official appearance at openside flank.
McKenzie will also field Wallabies wing Peter Hynes at fullback, while playmaker Quade Cooper slots in at flyhalf.
Reds – 15 Peter Hynes, 14 Digby Ioane, 13 Morgan Turinui, 12 Anthony Faingaa, 11 Rod Davies, 10 Quade Cooper, 9 Will Genia, 8 Scott Higginbotham, 7 Daniel Braid, 6 James Horwill, 5 Van Humphries, 4 Adam Byrnes, 3 Laurie Weeks, 2 Sean Hardman, 1 Ben Daley.
Subs: 16 Saia Faingaa, 17 James Slipper, 18 Ezra Taylor, 19 Andrew Shaw, 20 Richard Kingi, 21 Tim Walsh, 22 Will Chambers.

Brussow to have a field day against this rubbish.

considering this is the team to play the waratahs, your comment really just shows how juvenile you are Kobus…

It’s blindside flank.
Braid’s the opensider.
Sheez, I’m convinced KEO journos make these rudimentary errors on purpose so suckers like me will comment on them and generate more of a thread.
Shifting captains out of position seems to be a growing trend.
Wonder if this could mean we see Elsom shifing to 8th man for the Wallabies once Palu leaves test rugby, as reported the other day.

Puff beat me to it. It really is horrendous reporting. Don’t Keo’s boys know that the #6 jersey is only openside in SA, and that Horwill will play on the blindside. It is an especially pathetic article considering #7 is Daniel Braid, a well know openside flanker. ***** wept.

Puff, King Shaka
Couldn’t agree more – when a bloke is payed money and earns a living off a specific topic he can’t really make basic errors like that.
That’s like your financial advisor saying he’s not really sure what a unit trust or a retirement annuity is – but he’ll get back to you!

@poppa69:
I was speaking theoretically. As in if they played big ol’ James against the likes of Brussow, the Reds would be destroyed. Seeing as Brussow is rated as the best fetcher in the world, I thought I’d use him in my example. Do you see how that works?

@Kobus Kitty: By whom?
He had a great season last year no doubt, with his defensive game at least.
But he was poor in the rest of his all-round game.
He offers no option at lineout time, and coughed up possession repeatedly in attack.
He’s got a long way to go before he can claim the crown of best opensider off the likes of Ritchie or Smith.

nooooo, i had my money on the brumbies by 7! superbru should allow you to change your picks at least one day before the game!

@DonutDunning:
Come, don’t make up things. He is a far stronger ball carrier than both Smith and McCaw. I’d go as far to say as he is one of the strongest guys in the Bok team. Built like a truck.
He offers secure ball at the back of the rolling maul, and no… he does not “cough up” possession repeatedly.
McCaw and Smith don’t offer a lineout option either.
George Smith retired purely because he knew he couldn’t compete against Brussow.
Nothing worse than a convict liar.

@Kobus Kitty: Come on don’t make me go run through all last years footage to show you all the times he lost the ball in the tackle.
www . youtube . com/watch?v=XZo1DX7SlMg
Well that was easy, took all of 10 seconds.
25 seconds in, this one sums up Brussow’s test career with ball in hand fairly well.
Note that this tackle was mere minutes before Brussow decided to go at Tatafu with a flying knee to the ribcage without the ball, seeing he wasn’t able to get his revenge through legal means.
Only thing worse than a convict liar is a dirty ********
