Hoërskool Waterkloof are targeting a win over Monument this year.
Klofies are in the process of finalising their 1st XV squad this week after having trials last weekend.
Director of rugby Bart Schoeman said he is happy with what he has seen from his boys so far.
‘From what I saw at the trials, we have a good group of senior boys this season. I’m positive they can do well,’ Schoeman told keo.co.za.
‘The players who will play a big role for us are lock Schalk van Heerden who has already represented the SA Academy side, pivot Poy van den Bergh, loose forward De Wet Meyer and former SA U16 flyhalf Fas Tredoux.
‘There are a couple of injured boys after the summer sport season, but the guys are expected to recover soon. We also have a good connection with our junior players, who will be able to provide cover.’
Klofies have some major clashes scheduled this year. They start their season with NuPower Series clashes against Hoërskool Transvalia (13 March) and Florida (19 March).
They will host their Sports Day Festival on 1, 2 and 5 April, where they face Paarl Gym, Tygerberg and Diamantveld respectively. They will then compete against Boland Landbou in the Wildeklawer Super Schools on 24 April.
But Schoeman said their biggest fixture of the season will be the Gauteng Derby against Monnas, who were the top school in the region last year.
‘We will be looking forward to our match against Monument this season. It will either come in the NuPower Series or the Beeld Trophy. I believe we are strong enough to win this year,’ said Schoeman.
