Wilkinson dropped

Martin Johnson has selected Toby Flood ahead of Jonny Wilkinson for England’s clash with France on Saturday.

Wilkinson has been in poor form throughout the competition, and has failed to ignite the Poms’ attacking game. Flood is one of a number of changes as Northampton duo Ben Foden and Chris Ashton start. Foden comes in at fullback for Delon Armitage, while winger Ashton replaces Ugo Monye.

Mike Tindall comes in for centre Mathew Tait, while Simon Shaw starts at lock.

In the back row, Lewis Moody is named on the openside flank, with Joe Worsley moving to the blindside.

England – Ben Foden (Northampton); Mark Cueto (Sale), Mike Tindall (Gloucester), Riki Flutey (Brive), Chris Ashton (Northampton); Toby Flood (Leicester), Danny Care (Harlequins); Tim Payne (Wasps), Dylan Hartley (Northampton), Dan Cole (Leicester), Simon Shaw (Wasps), Steve Borthwick (Saracens, capt), Joe Worsley (Wasps), Lewis Moody (Leicester), Nick Easter (Harlequins).
Subs: Steve Thompson (Brive), David Wilson (Bath), Louis Deacon (Leicester), James Haskell (Stade Francais), Ben Youngs (Leicester), Jonny Wilkinson (Toulon), Mathew Tait (Sale).

Marc Lievremont has made one change to France’s side to play England in Paris.

Centre Mathieu Bastareaud was on the bench for their 46-20 win over Italy, but has replaced David Marty.

France – Clement Poitrenaud; Marc Andreu, Mathieu Bastareaud, Yannick Jauzion, Alexis Palisson; Francois Trinh-Duc, Morgan Parra; Thomas Domingo, William Servat, Nicolas Mas, Lionel Nallet, Julien Pierre, Thierry Dusautoir, Julien Bonnaire, Imanol Harinordoquy.

Nows your moment for even more excuses, Lord Barry S.Hit.

I seem to recall saying 1. Wilko, 2. Armitage and 3. Monye, simply werent up to it before the 6N started, and yet BH drummed up all manner of excuses of fitness, hairstyles and golf handicaps to suggest I was merely sh*tstirring.

    well well well

and Shontayne Hape discarded almost as quickly as Vainikolo was before him. Engl R.U., the dumping ground of B-rated imports.

Wilkinson played 2003 WC injured and on cortisone and has NEVER been the same since.

For I while I thought the same might happen to DC but he seems to be back to his best.

Wilkinson’s step and half shimmy is the most predictable movement in the game

Wilkinson was injured early on against Scotland in a tackle, then he concussed himself in another tackle before going off, Johnson said he’s pretty banged up. It makes sense that Flood starts.

@Black Panther: control your seeping vitriol BP, Hape never started a game and Vainikolo is a Tongan not a Kiwi.

@grant10: Wilko’s on a half a million deal with Toulon, just signed another contract recently. Besides Goode’s playing well and there’s always Pienaar.

@Big Hit: ja….but Goodes finished in 2 weeks time and Pienaar wants 9….

Maybe Steve Meyers girlfriend has a change of heart and gives him permission to play the home leg…

@grant10: was it really Meyer’s g/f that stopped him playing?

    @Big Hit: @5

how wrong you are. Vainikolo most certainly was a ‘Kiwi’; thats what we call our New Zealand LEAGUE Internationals !

But somehow youre now distancing yourself from players if they dont “start”. Like that matters in the painfully hypocritic stakes. Come on, youre starting to sound like some contrived Tiger Woods press statement now, all smoke’n'mirrors. I can hear a therapist calling.

As for my ‘vitirol’, well I most certainly did have those coversations, here, with you, about Armitage/Monye/Wilko. And now theyre all gone….

Foden and Ashton are good calls. There is something not quite right about that backrow. All three are capable players but as a unit – not great.

    Interesting midfield – could work.

No excuses here.. Monye, and Wilkinson, had their bells rung last weekend. Monye was never going to be in considered due to the 28 day rule that applies post concussion. No surprise with Armitage, as he has been out of form since returning from injury, and rushed back into international too soon. I would have dropped Wilkinson, after the Italy game. In fact people here are not surprised.

BP… England is not the only country, where so called B rate imports apply their trade.
