Jean stars in Munster win

Springbok centre Jean de Villiers scored a try in Munster’s 23-17 victory over the Scarlets.

Munster suffered an early setback when the Scarlets shot to a 7-0 lead after two minutes, but this score was cancelled when De Villiers touched down four minutes later.

The Scarlets managed to wrestle back the initiative in the 37th minute but it was the hosts that scored the next try through No 8 James Coughlan. Two second-half penalties by Paul Warwick confirmed the result of this Celtic League fixture.

Munster have moved to fourth on the league table.

Jean de villiers has lost his place in the Bok set up.

@iori Yagami: I know Juan de Jongh is playing really well at the moment but I am not sure he is quite ready to take over from Jean yet!

@iori Yagami: No jean has not lost his place. W Olivier is a great super 14 player. Remember his form last year? But when the international season comes he is usualy found wanting.

@ARK: I was talking about Wynand Olivier. Wynand is having an outstanding season on attack and defence. I havent even seen Jean play this season. I understand PDV point about overseas players, you just dont see them play enough. Out of mind, out of sight. @Smiley:

heard that Butch may be back shortly as well.

Best JDV goes to the sharks….Ruan …Butch …JDV…adi….

Just get BJ Botha and Bobs your aunt…..sharks back and looking good.

@ARK: I would have Juan de Jongh in my Bok squad this year, as a third choice 12 and 13. Just for him to become familar in the springbok set up. Maybe a game against Italy.

@iori Yagami: back up tp J FOURIE.

aND JDV AND w oLIVIER COVER 12 …

If I was PDV i would just play Jean against Wales to see the calibre of the overseas players. Then i would rest him for the rest of the season and select him for the End of year tour.
Remember Jean’s season only ends in May. He wont be able to arrive straight from Ireland and into the Bok team for 10 internationals. This will also allow Olivier some game time and some depth at 12. Who also need Jean at his best for the WC so rest him now. He can also captain WP to a rare currie cup trophy.

@grant10: Do you think PDV would pick Butch?

If fit its a no brainer …imo….

No other 10 is really laying claim to the 10 jersey as back up to M Steyn…maybe Grant….but i would go with James….to me a world class proven match winner at 10…..and he brings something different to the position as well….imo a great player.

    just needs to stay fit.

Yes…proper man management is now crucial.

@grant10: Agree with greatness of Butch but didnt he just come back from injury and he will be off the pace considering he has been up north for quite some time. I would rather look to local talent. Maybe Grant or Francis

@grant10: I knew you would agree with me. But it has to happen across the whole team. Victor and Smit need a rest soon.

Butch has a shoulder issue….sorted now by all accounts….

Look…Butch will need to show he is ready by playing either CC or latter part of super 14….no freebies….

Not sure that i would throw Francis in just yet…..lets see how he develops in super 14…..that he has potential is a fact…he looks like he has time on the ball….alwys a sign of a good player.

For sure….keyplayers must rest…and we need to have faith in the 2 nd string players…..

there is a big picture to think of.

@iori Yagami: #12: Umm, rare? WP has won more CC trophies than any other union. I guess you meant to say “He can also captain WP to a rare (in recent times) currie cup trophy.”

Listen lad’s Jean has really struggled to nail down a starting place on the Munster side this season . South Africa would do well to look else where for a center who is in forum , Jean is not and has not since he arrived here in Munster . It seems like he is just here for a big pay day and nothing else .The sooner he leaves the better for Munster Rugby

De Villiers just scored a ridiculous try against Glasgow.
