SACS will be searching for an upset victory over Grey High, when the two schools clash in the main game of the latter’s Easter Rugby Festival on Saturday.
‘We are looking forward to the challenge, and aiming to spread the ball wide and play an expansive game,’ SACS director of rugby Barry van Selm told keo.co.za. ‘We have 11 boys with 1st XV experience from last year so we are hoping that will stand us in good stead this season.’
Although SACS lost to Paarl Gym in the Newlands Rugby Day, they showed some neat touches on Wednesday evening.
‘We had a great win against Brackenfell [55-21] last Saturday and produced a great effort in the second half, so we will be looking to build on that,’ said Van Selm.
SACS’ centre pairing of Godfrey Tundube and Mathew Mohle is a dangerous combination, while right wing Storm Winter will also want to stamp his authority on the match.
However, Grey have been the stand-out school in the Eastern Cape in the past few seasons and will be difficult opposition for Rian van der Westhuisen’s men in front of their home crowd.
In other big schoolboy clashes, Affies play Queen’s at the Kokstad Rugby Day and Bishops host St Andrew’s from Grahamstown.
