Grey halfbacks torture Hilton

Grey High claimed their second win of their Easter festival when they defeated Hilton 16-11 on Tuesday.

‘We were really happy to get the win considering that the wind had a massive effect on the game,’ Grey coach Dean Carelse told keo.co.za. ‘Hilton have an outstanding pack and we battled at the set pieces.’

Carelse heaped praise on scrumhalf Scott McCarthy and flyhalf Byron Westcott, whose boot kept the hosts on the front foot.

McCarthy scored Grey’s only try, while centre Luke Daniels kicked three penalties and a conversion.

Hilton responded with a try from fullback Emile Schwarz, who spearheaded the visitor’s attack, while Ross Bartlett and Mark Landey each kicked a penalty.

Meanwhile, Framesby continued their giant-killing act when they defeated Michaelhouse 16-9. Maritzburg College also registered their first win of the tournament with a 29-20 victory over Daniel Pienaar.
