Toulon trounce Bayonne
3 Apr 2010
Joe van Niekerk and Ross Skeate excelled in Toulon’s 31-13 defeat of Bayonne which secures their place in the Top 14 play-offs.
The victory temporarily took Toulon to the top of the table, but Castres’ 19-11 victory away at Pepignan late on Saturday meant they took that place. Clermont missed their opportunity to go to the summit, losing 19-10 at Stade Francais.
Gerhard Vosloo and Ronnie Cooke scored in Brive’s 25-15 victory against Bourgoin which keeps them in a with an outside chance of making the play-offs. But they’ll be pushed hard by Biarritz, whose 42-13 win over Montauban has them in seventh on the table.
Montpellier murdered Albi 61-17 to ease fears of relegation.
In England, Leicester consolidated their place at the top of the table by beating Bath 43-20.
Northampton kept the pressure on the Tigers with a 14-7 away win at Leeds, while Harlequins edged away from the relegation zone with a 23-14 win over Newcastle.
Derick Hougaard missed a late penalty as Saracens went down 29-28 to Gloucester. Brad Barritt scored for Saracens.

@grant10: it wasn’t televised, Luke was concussed ahead of the game from the last match so was rested, Butch apparently went ok but Bath were starved of ball and their two tries were breakaways. Claassens struggled behind an outclassed pack.

When Big Joe first hit the International Scene, he was a colossus.
It didn’t last long, but at his peak, he was among the very very best that where around. Maybe the best.
It’s good to see him doing well, after all these years.
Have your say
