Royals edge Chargers in thriller
5 Apr 2010
The Rajasthan Royals scraped through for a two-run win over the Deccan Chargers in Nagpur on Monday.
The Royals stumbled early as they lost openers Michael Lumb and Naman Ojha by the third over, but Faiz Fazel and Shane Watson steadied the innings with a 77-run partnership. This helped the one-time champions set a total of 159.
The Chargers also had a bad start as they lost VVS Laxman cheaply, but Adam Gilchrist and Rohit Sharma kept Deccan’s chase on track. But after the duo fell, the rest of the Chargers’ batting line-up collapsed.
Shane Warne was the main destructor, taking four vital wickets to halt the Chargers’ chase. Deccan were bowled out with one ball remaining and three runs away from victory.
Rajasthan Royals 159 (19.5 overs)
Shane Watson 58, Faiz Fazel 38, RP Singh 3-17.
Deccan Chargers 157 (19.5 overs)
Rohit Sharma 75, Adam Gilchrist 34, Shane Warne 4-21.
