Grey unstoppable at Kearsney

Grey College beat Monument 26-6 on the final day of the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival.

Grey, who had won eight of their 16 previous matches against the Gauteng side, scored three tries through Tyron Schultz, Paul Jordaan and Jan Serfontein with Johan Goosen kicking a conversion and three penalties. Monument’s Marais Schmidt slotted two penalties for his side’s only points.

Marais Viljoen began the day with a 68-8 drubbing of the eLan Invitational XV after leading 28-3 at half-time. JP du Toit scored a hat-trick of tries while Eugene Le Maitre grabbed a double. Tiaan van Niekerk kicked nine from 10 conversions.

Brendon Olivier crossed twice as Nico Malan beat Upington 20-7. Ruan Scheepers kicked two conversions and two penalties.

In a tight clash EG Jansen edged out Kearsney 19-12. EG Jansen’s tries were scored by Ronwin Roets, Heinrich Jooste and LC Gresse, while Robert du Preez and Brendon Clements went over for the hosts.

Siyabonga Tom kicked four penalties and a conversion as Glenwood beat Selborne 19-10. The first half saw a place-kicking battle between Tom and Selborne’s Joshua van Rooyen. Mondli Ntsgingila’s try in the second half made it 19-3 with 20 minutes remaining. Khwezi Mona scored a consolation try for Selborne at the death.
