Allister Coetzee has reinstated Dewaldt Duvenage at No 9 while Adriaan Fondse’s return will lend the Stormers pack some grunt.

Duvenage rightly regains his starting place after Ricky Januarie’s shocking showing against the Force last week. Duvenage’s return gives the Stormers more kicking options, but more importantly ensures attacking ball will be quickly recycled at the ruck.

Juan de Jongh is also back at centre after a three-week layoff because of a elbow injury. Tim Whithead moves to the bench while Frikkie Welsh is dropped from the match 22.

As reported on keo.co.za on Monday, JD Moller will start at loosehead as JC Kritzinger is battling with a hamstring injury. The coaching staff were going to give Kritzinger until Friday but the young prop has failed to show sufficient progress to justify his inclusion on the bench.

Coetzee told this website Fondse would feature on the tour, and the No 4 lock is rushed back into the starting line-up in his first Stormers’ match of the season. De Kock Steenkamp is dropped from the matchday squad completely.

Stormers – 15 Gio Aplon, 14 Sireli Naqelevuki, 13 Jaque Fourie, 12 Juan de Jongh, 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Peter Grant, 9 Dewaldt Duvenhage, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Francois Louw, 6 Schalk Burger (c), 5 Andries Bekker, 4 Adriaan Fondse, 3 Brok Harris, 2 Tiaan Liebenberg, 1 JD Moller.
Subs: 16 Deon Fourie, 17 Eusebio Guinazu, 18 Anton van Zyl, 19 Pieter Louw, 20 Ricky Januarie, 21 Willem de Waal, 22 Tim Whitehead.

    @gunther: Do you think he is missing playing for the Bulls yet? Where he got plenty of quality ball…

    @gunther:
    If I had to chase up and unders all day long, I would also get despondent.

    Hopefully the combination of De Jongh/Fourie will bring Habs more into the game. That is, if our pack can provide quality ball for the half-backs to put the back line away. We can definitely not afford to play a kicking game this weekend as the Blues back line will just run the ball back at us until they find the holes.

    But I have a feeling that AC will want to win this game with his defence ie let the Blues play with the ball and counter when they make a mistake ala JW style.

    It would be the wrong tactic if you ask me.

    A little too little too late AC you dumbass…Ricky totally cost the Stormers the game and Allistair should shoulder the blame for selecting him…that said JD Moller(the worst L/H in SA by a mile) will cost the Stormers against the Blues :(

    I don’t know what the stats are but de jongh doesn’t look like the biggest distributor of the ball, coupled with the worlds greatest centre outside him it’s a miracle he gets any at all.. He is looking increasingly for the intercept on defence this is offering his opposite number more and more chances.

    It makes you shudder to think how many tries the bulls wings are scoring and they are not in his class…

    Jean are always intercepting.

    Juan played 13 all his life, so. Morgan Newman should come back, and move Fourie to wing. he seems too score some good tries at wing

    @BOD:

    Newman is the most overrated center in SA, I would start blooding Whithead/Bosch at inside De Jongh outside and move Fourie to the wing. Strt trying this with 15/20 min to go if the game aint to tight.

    @Cereal Killa 77: Yep…good sensible blooding….Newman is Vodaconm cup material.

    When Juan De Jongh and Stephan Diepenaar were playing for WP u19 he was in the no12 jersey, but then again I only watched the final.

    it’s a wise decision to bring Dewaldt Duvenage back in

    What do we need to do to incentivise Naqelevuki to reach top speed?

  • 115.Tomsta: Reply to this comment

    matchup for the game is fourie vs ranger. fourie had better be up for this battle as the ranger has excellent acceleration to bust over advantage line.

    de jongh is alos up for some massive treatment from stanely/mccalsiter. mccalister has some major questions to answer and get himself back into AB contention. he will be looking to make massive statement to upstage nonu for 12 jersey. de jongh needs to have a blinder!
