Suresh Raina blasted an unbeaten 78 as Chennai annihilated the Knight Riders by nine wickets.
Kolkata were abysmal in all departments, and Chennai took full advantage to ease to victory with 39 balls to spare. The margin of the win was vital as five sides are now on 12 points, but Chennai lie second on net run-rate.
The Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bat, but laboured to 139-8 in their 20 overs. They were always in trouble after falling to 19-4 and losing their big guns in Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Sourav Ganguly and Dave Hussey.
In reply, Raina came in during the first over after Mathew Hayden fell, and he smashed his runs off 39 balls at a strike rate of 200. That innings of destructive hitting could prove vital when the semi-finalists are finalised.
