Get ready for Border warfare

Queen’s College will meet Dale College in a televised FNB Classic Clash on Saturday.

The arch-rivals have played each other 161 times since 1891, with Dale winning 71 times and Queen’s 75 with 15 draws. Queen’s, though, have won the last eight derbies.

This season, Dale have beaten Wynberg, Framesby and Hangklip and lost narrowly to St Stithians, Glenwood and Noord-Kaap. Queen’s have beaten Port Rex and Graeme but lost to Florida and KES.

‘We haven’t lost to Dale [at 1st XV level] since 2004, so we don’t want to become the team to mess up that record,’ Queen’s captain Allan Dell told ‘It’s obviously a big game, with plenty at stake, but my guys are looking good and, hopefully, if we play to our potential we can come away with the win.’

‘The younger learners look up to us and we would love to do them proud and win on Saturday,’ said Dale captain Andile Jho. ‘We like playing a past-paced game. It rained a lot at the Saints Festival, so we had to adapt our game, but if it gets loose on Saturday [against Queen's] that will play into our hands as we have small, elusive players who enjoy that type of game.’
