No Grey areas for Gimmies
20 Apr 2010
Paarl Gym’s 59-6 thrashing of Rondebosch has given them plenty of confidence ahead of their clash with Grey College.
Man of the Match Jacques Botha, who had been moved from fullback to wing, scored two tries for Gimmies, as did lock Niel Claassen.
‘We played well in the opening stages, but the boys suffered from tryline fever for a while, with everyone trying to do it on their own,’ said Paarl Gim 1st XV coach Christoff Lötter. ‘We put it right in the final quarter, as the boys regained their composure and structure, and managed to put a lot of points on the board.’
Paarl Gym’s next match is against Grey College at the Wildeklawer Super Schools tournament, and Lötter believes they can do well.
‘Grey are an exceptional side, with great athletes across the park, so we’re expecting good, hard running from them. But if we are at our best we will do well, we just need to stay focused.
‘We’re putting particular emphasis on our fitness, but otherwise we’re not going to change our preparations due to the opposition. It’s important that we play as a unit, not individuals, and are at our peak.’

These games should be televised… I know they are not “Classic Clashes” according to FNB (or whoever decides what games are broadcast), but this is exactly the type of classic battles we like to see!

To name but a few of the teams playing.

Thank you A-POC. I have read the blogs on Rugby365 and there seems to be a lot of excitement about this weekend’s rugby. Should be great to watch. Such a shame that Supersport is not broadcasting this live, but chose to do so with the Dale/Queens game!

Would be quite funny if more people turned up at Wildeklawer than Loftus Egg in the face of Supersport!!!
20 Apr 2010, 20:32 pm
It’s not everyday you have so many of the world/SA’s top rugby schools together at one tournament.
Affies will be buzzing Saturday and I can see lots of people leaving Loftus @ 17h00 and coming over to Affies for the final match of the day @ 17h45 – Affies vs Paul Roos.
I am of course licking my lips to watch Grey in action.
