Biarritz set up all-French affair

Biarritz set up all-French affair

Biarritz beat Munster 18-7 to set up a European Cup final with Toulouse.

The Irish outfit were recognised as the side to beat in play-off scenarios, but Dimitri Yachvili slotted six penalties as Biarritz outplayed Munster. Jean de Villiers set up Munster’s first and only try through Keith Earls as they grabbed a 7-0 lead, but the result was not to be as the home side dominated.

Biarritz will now face their fellow countrymen in the final in Paris.

Tryimg to watch a replay now but the pace seems quite a bit slower than Super 14. Makes for difficult watching.

Ok Jean. Pack your bags and head on back to the land of the table mountain.

    So CJ got mugged yesterday

I said it before on this site CJ is not so fly and BJ has some technical issues which makes him penalty prone

If devilliers has anything in his head, he’d go to the sharks.

Personally, i hope he goes to the stormers, the final piece added to an aging backline with no more than 2 seasons left in it.

    @JL1(JL1)-3: so what you reckon?

    stay with smit at 3?

  • 6.grant10: Reply to this comment

@Brigadier Van Zyl(Brigadier Van Zyl)-4: 4 ja…apparently he is coming back to stormers.

Forget about french flair….Froggs play with a super powerfull scrum and good defense, that´s how they won the 5 nations. It´s time to bring Saffas props playing in the top 14 french national league starting with Daan Human.

  • 8.Bill Reyts: Reply to this comment

Sharks scrum was much better than the Bulls one. Only when Smit went to 3, did they struggle. I would play Smit at hooker now for sure. Otherwise 1.

  • 9.JL1: Reply to this comment

@grant10(grant10)-5: The more I think about it the more it makes sense to have that versatality with Smit now

Sean Fitzpatrick played when he was not the number one hooker, John Eales also carried on due to his captaincy

What a team needs is calm heads when the going gets tough and some good changes if things do not work out

  • 10.grant10: Reply to this comment

@JL1(JL1)-9: seems no matter what Matfield achieves he will always be seen as a lesser skipper than Smit?

  • 11.JL1: Reply to this comment

    @Bill Reyts(Gumboots)-8: @8

Smit is not too bad at tighthead, but not brilliant either, he is a bit tall for the position in my opinion

You need a short bugger that can get in under the loosehead and jam the hooker to make it really uncomfortable for the pack to scrum

    Technique I say.

Proudfoot has done this well, Brok and friends are not that stronger than last year, but technically they are sharper

    June 12 ….france vs boks …newlands.

France have 2 teams in Heineken cup final….maybe saffas will have 2 as well in super 14 final.

We world champs….they 6 nation champs….a lot at stake.

As PEPENILLO SAYS….THE FRENCH WILL LOOK TO DOMINATE AT SCRUM TIME …THATS A GIVEN.

tHEY SEE SMIT AT 3 ITS GOODNITE NURSE….THEY WILL BEAT US….

YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK.

I didn’t say he was bad, but internationally he has struggled and has been found out. He MUST play 2 now that Bissie is injured.

@grant10(grant10)-10: Oh but he is a lessor skipper than Barney.

  • 15.grant10: Reply to this comment

smit will be a huge liability at 3….and those that dont think so….well play him there vs french…..

  • 16.JL1: Reply to this comment

@grant10(grant10)-10: @he is not lesser than Smit

Smit is the jel in the team
He is the one players that keeps the players honest

He is the one that removes race and provincialism. He is mates with the dutchies and souties and coloureds and blacks.

That is the difference, he has the uncanny ability to keep coaches, players and refs on his side no matter what -RESPECT I say

@Kronung(redj)-14: 14Okay…..smits captaincy must be really special….because he aint there for his playing!

  • 18.JL1: Reply to this comment

@grant10(grant10)-12: If they beat us it will be because they have a great record against us, the previous four wins against us was not because Smit played 3, get real

Smit is not a 3 of international class, but name the international 3s of class??

    Please list them……..????

  • 19.grant10: Reply to this comment

@JL1(JL1)-16: ja….see my 17….he must be very special….as i said …its not his playing ability…must be the magical captaincy.

Only works with the boks i see….sharks not so receptive to this wonderful aura….

Good promise and delivering the goods are worlds apart, none have done so on international level

I thought WP Nel could be the man, but it just shows how much experience counts in that position. This year he was a shadow of last year

Owen Franks also arrived on the scene with all the trumpet sound and now?? Just another prop!!

Seems you guys would have smit there as long as it means he plays….

personally i think he is a liability to bopks….but enoughs enough for me.

@grant10(grant10)-39: Why would that be, they play Wales-so no danger there in th epool games, then on to the Pcific Islanders with their monster looseheads (only kidding)then Ireland in the Q finals, and they have a wek frontrow and then the All Blacks in the semis or France. And then and only then you need to box clever

Never underestimate any team on a 1 off….have you so easily forgtten Fiji and Tonga….we could so easily have lost ….

No…i have a different mental wiring to you….
respect the opposition and treat every wc game as a real test…never let the guard down.

    grant10.

Enough.we have heard ur view on Smit countless times. U obviously don’t rate the man.but so did many calling for Gary Botha to be Bok 2.he was more mobile bk then playing much like Liebenberg is now but was dogsh*t on Test stage.same with sidestepper Britz.

So Smit at 2 is still of international class.best tight hooker on the planet.showed it vs Bulls ystday.will lose the weight as season continues.

I agree he shouldn’t play hooker if BJ is availble.but CJ/Kruger/Jannie vs Smit its much of muchness if any.BJ for all his technical shortcomings is still a better bet.

Now please stop the “crusade” to denigrate Smit.we note u have specific valid arguments against Smit.

But ud swear Smit is Matt Dunning/Adam Freier/Saimone Taumopeaiu/Marius Hurter the way u go on.
