Juries returns to Sevens
6 May 2010
Fabian Juries will be available for the last two tournaments of the IRB Sevens Series.
Juries was brought to Cape Town from Bloemfontein, and his role has been limited to that of a member of Western Province’s Vodacom Cup team. With WP out of the running and Juries not in contention for a Stormers’ place in the final stages of the Super 14, he has returned to the Springbok Sevens side.
In terms of the agreement between Western Province and Paul Treu, the national Sevens coach, Juries will also be available to accompany the Springboks Sevens to the Commonwealth Games to be held in October in Delhi, India.
Juries joined the squad in Stellenbosch where they are busy with preparations for the last two Series tournaments later this month at Twickenham and Murrayfield. He also played in a warm-up match on Thursday between the Springbok Sevens training squad and the SA Sevens Emerging team at the Danie Craven Stadium.
‘He’s adding a lot of experience and I’m pleased that he’s able to help out because there is still some doubt over the match fitness of Renfred Dazel and Paul Delport.
‘Fabba will obviously return to Western Province if they need him, but I’m hoping that he would be able to stay with us.’

Back where he belongs.Make him captain and keep him there.

Should have been playing wing for the Stormers this saturday. Deserves more oppurtunities in the 15man game, is just as quick and explosive as Aplon.

Biggest mistake of Fabian’s career was joining province. Should have stayed with Cheetahs and at least got some opportunities.
Playing Whitehead on the wing. Not a good idea AC. Fabian was your man.
Like to her you Storm her supporters comments? You are always so vocal about playing people out of position and not giving opportunities to talented players? Moaning about the Sharks treating Steyn badly.. blah blah blah.
You chased Brent Russel to France and now Fabian to 7′s.
Ah, that’s off my chest now.

this is just nonsense! the guy should’ve just stayed in bloem, he would’ve got game time with mapoe & nokwe injured…now he is being surpassed by the likes of whitehead who don’t even have currie cup experience and are centres…

@Transformation(Transformation)-5: ja….its a strange call by AC.

Juries is one of the most gifted runners in SA,when put in right structure he’d be devastating-ala Aplon,Nanai-Williams,O’Connor etc
But maybe a run at Sevens will regain his confidence.
He is the greatest SA 7′s player to ever play the game.and is amongst the high echelons of the game mentioned with the likes of Serevi,Mai,Gollings,Cora,Ryder,Lawrence etc
Juries is right up there.and deservedly so.
A team with:
Stick
Horne
Mbiyozo
Dazell
Juries
Schoeman
Mastriet
Firepower galore

I think you guys need to keep in mind the fact that should juries play he would not qualify to play in the semi’s and Finals should there be an extended injury. S14 Rules state you must have played at least 4 games or so to qualify to play in the knockout rounds.
So imagine we play Juries this w\end and Habana is fit for the Semi’s , we win but Habana picks up an injury , with Joe fit Aplon could easily move to wing but who will be the backup ? Not Juries cos he only played one game against the Sharks. Now imagine we lose 2 wings or a Fullback for the finals , we have to pick a rookie out of position in a knockout game.
Picking Whitehead now suddenly seems for me a good idea.

Have to agree with Sparticus… BUT at the same time I have to say the real fault lies with Western Province for not giving the man ANY game time during the Super 14. Instead of always picking Whitehead or Aplon they could have given Juries a run. He makes as good a centre as wing. I feel for the guy cos he is a great and after last years Currie Cup I was really looking forward to him in the Super 14. They have certainly failed him. With our lack of depth at 13 he could have been a possible for Bok selection if you ask me. Ebersohn has failed to impress this year in Super 14, and I cant say any other 13´s have really put their hands up except for Jacques Fourie.
He is a devastating runner.

@Slumtown(Slumtown)-9: That’s a bit harsh on Ebehrson. He didn’t play as good as we know he can, but he did the job. That’s not quite ‘fail’. This is his first half season after his 3/4 year away from rugby (due to injury), so I’d say he got some experience in his first S14. If he can regain his confidence in the CC we could expect some impact next year.
As for Juries, well, I said when the contract was signed that he made a huge mistake. I’m also not convinced the signing with the 7s team is the right move. Oh well.

@Slumtown(Slumtown)-9: But you’re right about us not having any real backup for 13 this year.

@Bouts(Bouts)-10: I said failed to impress – I didnt say fail – two very different things. Yes he did the job, but so has Jaco Pretorius, Corne Uys etc all without being outstanding in any way.
What ive seen from him in the past was impressive – so obviously he can improve and step up again, but based on current form this year – nope he hasnt cut the mustard to take the step up. Likewise nor has Francois Houghaard (due I think to him being put on wing. If you ask me he´s a centre of note), WP Nel ditto – lame Super 14, Heinke vd Merwe – likewise etc etc. All have the ability to come good.

On the rare occasions I have seen Juries get on the field he has been sheer class. Why the hell didn’t he play the whole season in place of Sireli Naqelevuki, who was anything but impressive last year and is ineligible for the Boks. To be fair, Naqelevuki has been quite good on occasions this year. But still – if I was the coach, I wouldn’t have chosen him over Juries at the beginning of the season.
7 May 2010, 17:09 pm
Aussie Commentator Greg Martin was tearing into Naqelevuki this seasonwhile Juries was playing Vodacom Cup. It doesn’t add up …
7 May 2010, 17:23 pm
Must say Naqelevuki has been outstanding this season and has certainly played a big part in Stormers dominance this year. Cant say the same for last year – he was dismal. But he is having a renaissance ths year. He´s so strong he often breaks the tackle.
But yes Juries should have been rotated with Naquelevuki and Aplon, and Whitehead for at least 4 games. it must be super frustrating having had a good Currie Cup and then be relegated to Vodacom Cup instead of being part of the fantatstic Super 14 the guys have been having. I tip Stormers to take the Super 14 this year. By a ball hair. Maybe Naquelevuki can make up for losing them the Currie cup last year.

Could’ve done with Juries at the Sharks instead of that complete waste of time Ndudgane. Juries and Mvovo would’ve given us a good attacking platform. Both elusive and quick. This move by AC smacks of bullcr@p.
Have your say
