Lauaki charged for crash
Sione Lauaki was found guilty of careless driving, although blood test results showed that he was below the drinking limit.
The Chiefs No 8 was involved in a accident in the early hours of Saturday morning between Auckland and Hamilton following the 25-25 draw against the Cheetahs three weeks ago. Lauaki allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel.
Lauaki is already involved in an assault case and his sentence was expected on the 5 March. However, it has been delayed to 24 June while the court considers his application for a discharge without conviction.
Lauaki, who played 17 Tests for the All Blacks, is set to transfer to a French club next season.
Canes set for double boost
Conrad Smith and Victor Vito are expected to recover in time for the Hurricanes’ clash with the Waratahs on Friday.
The duo were absent in the Canes’ comeback win against the Reds last weekend. However, head coach Colin Cooper is likely to have a full-strength squad to work with as centre Smith and flank Vito are back at training after recovering from their head and calf injuries respectively.
Saders punish scrummie
Kahn Fotuali’i will miss the Crusaders’ vital clash against the Brumbies after breaking team protocol.
Scrumhalf Fotuali’i, who has been first choice for much of the season, will be dropped this weekend after disobey the Saders’ recovery requirements after he was injured in the defeat to the Bulls last weekend.
All Black Andy Ellis will now start this Friday in Christchurch.
