Slick Tahs bury Canes
14 May 2010
The Waratahs produced their best performance of the competition to beat the Hurricanes 32-16 and book their spot in the play-offs.
The Tahs took to the field in a jersey that probably matches the wallpaper in Phil Waugh’s bathroom. Perhaps the jersey designers felt not enough people knew exactly what a Waratah was, or perhaps the coaches wanted to distract the Canes with a design so bad it put Stade Francais’ atrocity to shame.
The official line is that the Tahs donned the strip for charity, and they seemed to thrive in the new colours, hammering the Canes up front and scoring some spectacular tries thanks to their sublime support play. The wet conditions should have prescribed a tighter approach, but the Tahs’ tendency to look for the offload had the Canes’ defence scrambling.
The hosts went into this crucial match without their star scrummager, Benn Robinson, and were dealt a further blow when Dan Palmer cried off with injury in the 11th minute. Unfortunately for the Canes, they also lost captain Andrew Hore early on, a loss that seemed to have a greater impact on their scrumming prowess.
The Tahs bossed this set-piece and piled on the pressure through a relentless forward assault on the Canes’ line. The Kiwis were able to withstand the forward barrage and even managed to snaffle a couple of timely turnovers on their own line. But it was when the Tahs ran it from deep that the visitors struggled to get back on defence.
Great offloading complemented penetrative supporting lines until Kurtley Beale received the final pass to dot down. Lachie Turner then created something from nothing, chipping behind the Canes’ defence, collecting the ball, and sprinting upfield. The pass at pace was accurate as Drew Mitchell took the score to 18-6.
Piri Weepu managed to goal a penalty before the break, but the Tahs struck decisively after half-time. Having absorbed plenty of punishment in the first stanza, the Canes defence was lethargic and allowed Mitchell to cut the line. The Wallabies winger found Rob Horne in support and was on hand when the Tahs centre delivered the final offload.
The try and subsequent conversion took the Tahs to a 25-9 lead, and the way the hosts were firing, a Canes fightback seemed unlikely. The hosts had the better of possession and were winning the collisions, a battle that was made easier thanks to the tiring Canes defence.
Another chip over the top eluded a seemingly well-placed Cory Jane as Beale collected his own kick to score. The bounce of the ball was favouring the Aussies, and the try ensured they claimed a bonus point.
The Canes played themselves into the Tahs’ 22, but their desperation was exacerbated by elementary handling errors. Jane knocked the ball over the tryline, and while you could say that the slippery conditions were responsible, the Tahs were getting all their passes away despite the wet.
Turner was sin-binned in the 67th minute but the Canes failed to make the most of their numbers advantage. They spilled a pass from the resulting penalty and then butchered another opportunity when they ran it from deep. The Tahs defended spiritedly, but eventually conceded a try to David Smith.
The Sydney side has played some uninspiring rugby to date, but this performance confirmed why many teams consider them a threat. Their pack is difficult to stop once it gets going, and when they string a couple of passes together, ala the Crusaders, they can translate pressure into points.
They’ll continue to whinge following this win, as the five-point return takes them to second position on the log. Had the Bulls sent their first-string to Newlands and beaten the Stormers, the Tahs would have hosted a play-off.
The Stormers should beat the Bulls B team on Saturday to book a home semi-final, a result that will see Waugh’s charges traveling from Sydney to take on an intimidating outfit in Cape Town. The other play-off should see the Bulls hosting the Crusaders.

@Tacitus(Tacitus)-1: The WP to lose?
14 May 2010, 11:30 am
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-1:
Then shouldn’t the Bulls move to 51 or 52? Seems you just like spewing kr@p. Get your math right mate.
14 May 2010, 11:32 am
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-1:
Sorry didn’t read the after today. I’m the muppet.

@Bill Reyts(Gumboots)-3:
A bit slow today, are you?
14 May 2010, 11:32 am
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-5:

The log after tomorrow?
14 May 2010, 11:34 am
Go CANES!!!
14 May 2010, 11:34 am
This game without a bonus point win for either team is going to make a coin flip of who end 3 or 4 if the stormers win
14 May 2010, 11:34 am
Now Canes to put these whinging girls’ blouses to bed.
14 May 2010, 11:35 am
Go Hurricanes!! Blow away the Wah-Wah-Tahs…!!
14 May 2010, 11:35 am
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-7:
Think the Tahs to win by plenty. I hope the Canes take it though.
14 May 2010, 11:35 am
so let me get this straight:
if the tahs win, they go 2nd and crusaders 3rd. if canes win without bonuspoint, its crusaders 2nd and canes 3rd. if canes win with bonuspoint, its canes 2nd and crusaders 3rd.
14 May 2010, 11:37 am
Canes to leak plenty of tries, but score even more. That’s the way they roll.
So 4 tries to both sides I can imagine without too much difficulty. It’s the 6 point winning margin that might be a tight call, I reckon.
14 May 2010, 11:38 am
got a funny feeling about this game. funny, like phil’s sloping forehead.
14 May 2010, 11:39 am
Don`t want Crusaders in semi.Don`t see them losing to Stormers @ Newlands or Bulls again.They will be VERY charged!
14 May 2010, 11:40 am
Tahs in their bathroom tile jersey
14 May 2010, 11:40 am
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-15: So Stromers should be Tahs supporters for this game?
14 May 2010, 11:40 am
@Pienkdas de Villiers(Pienkdas de Villiers)-17:
My friend, the Bulls will blow the Crusaders away the next time they play. There won’t be no flyahlf at outside centre to gift them two tries.
My dream has always been a Bulls/Crusaders final at Loftus. I guess Bulls/Crusaders in Soweto is the next best thing.
14 May 2010, 11:40 am
I back any team that plays against the whinging girls.
14 May 2010, 11:41 am
@Bill Reyts(Gumboots)-8: think the log will go:
1. Bulls
Cant think passed that.
14 May 2010, 11:41 am
On the premise that the stormers have a home semi….
I don’t care how, but one of these 2 teams needs to end 3rd.
Would rather face one of them than the crusaders.
14 May 2010, 11:41 am
Mainland
Bwaha hahahaha ha.
14 May 2010, 11:42 am
puke is what comes to mind when I look at the fugly jersey that the tahs are wearing.
14 May 2010, 11:43 am
If the Stormers lie fifth after this game, I wonder if the Bulls still have time to switch to their A team for tomorrow’s clash…
14 May 2010, 11:44 am
Tac
Don`t have log.How does canes land up 4th?Just win with no bonus point?
14 May 2010, 11:45 am
@RL(RL)-25: Tahs are in a special jersey that will be auctionend after the game for Cerebral Palsy – according to iafrica
14 May 2010, 11:45 am
we’ll know in 2 hours i guess…
14 May 2010, 11:46 am
@Pienkdas de Villiers(Pienkdas de Villiers)-27:
Canes have to win to end 3rd. Tahs can end fourth if they get two losing bonuspoints.
14 May 2010, 11:47 am
So 43 points would have taken second spot on the log? I wouldn’t have given good odds on tha happening with 6 games to play…..
14 May 2010, 11:48 am

14 May 2010, 11:50 am
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-1: Tacitus – if the log ends that way, the Bulls should be forced to send their best team because then I almost agree with Hinton. Its would be a little unfair for the Waratahs and they might just have a valid complaint.
I say let the Bulls B side go to Cape Town, but give them 10 points head start. That should be fair.
14 May 2010, 11:50 am
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-33:
I’m thinking that if the Stormers lose, it won’t be by more than 7 points, so they’ll still sneak into fourth spot.
14 May 2010, 11:51 am
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-33: Yes, and they would have to lose without scoring a bonus point. Something I think would be possible if it were a full strength Bulls side, but I dont see it happening as things stand.
The Stormers will be in the semi’s – just their game against the Baby Bulls will determine where they end in the top 4.
14 May 2010, 11:53 am

So it all points to Bulls Saders semi ,Tac??….Unless of course 2morrow work out differently to some expectations??(lol)

I guess at least we’ll know what is required soon.
14 May 2010, 11:54 am
@Dusky(Dusky)-36: The only reason why the Bulls changed 14 players is so they can have an excuse after their loss, which is going to happen at Newlands, A or B team makes no difference, they know it and I know it.
14 May 2010, 11:55 am
Unless a miracle happens the Bulls will face the toughest play off games.
Meaning either Crusaders or Stormers.
I categorise the Stormers as a tough play off game because they won’t have to travel and will have more local support than the NZ teams.
Anyway, that’s how it rolls, and that’s how we will deal with them. One after the other.
14 May 2010, 11:57 am
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-41: Are you a player for the Bulls?
14 May 2010, 11:58 am
try tahs
14 May 2010, 11:59 am
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-42:
Are you the angry old aunt of one of the Stormers players?
14 May 2010, 11:59 am
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-40: Yes right. This flippin ‘mighty’ Stormers side you keep speaking off was trashed by a Sharks team that hardly looked like they raised a sweat.
They didn’t even go for points with all their kicks. They were harry casual about it, and walked over the Stormers like they were playing the blind school.
Be careful the Baby Bulls dont do the same thing to the Stormers this weekend, because you guys will NEVER live it down. EVER !
14 May 2010, 11:59 am
@Taciturn(Taciturn)-41: I would prefer the Crusaders in the semis because all that travelling has to catch up with you at some point.
Don’t tell me that you can get beat up at Loftus, fly to Aus, then back to the Highveld and just play 80 minutes of rugby against our fresh players.
I’m sure that it must take its toll.
14 May 2010, 11:59 am
@RL(RL)-43:
Good. Need 3 more. It doesn’t matter how many the Canes score, as long as they win.
14 May 2010, 12:00 pm
….one after the other!!!
14 May 2010, 12:01 pm
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-41:
I think the Bulls will find it tough to beat BOTH the Stormers and the Crusaders…..if that is the way it turns out. Just my 2 cents.
Crusaders were unbelievable this evening, you have to admit.
14 May 2010, 12:01 pm
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-44: No, I was just wondering about the ‘we’ part in your post.
14 May 2010, 12:01 pm
@BlueBlood(BlueBlood)-46: the saders thumped the Brumbies today and on current form it would be better for the Bulls to play the canes in the semis than thos evil saders – remember they have the Bull beating formula.
14 May 2010, 12:02 pm
@The Analyst(The Analyst)-49:
Bulls will beat all comers. It’s just a question of who gets the honour of losing to them.
14 May 2010, 12:03 pm
Bulls vs Canes and
Saders vs Stormers semis…
All panning ot nicely for my predicted Bulls vs Saders final.
A worthy match to bring down the curtain on the S14.
14 May 2010, 12:03 pm
@RL(RL)-51:
No they don’t. They have the “run through the flyhalf at outside centre” formula.
And the “score tries against the Bulls when they are down to 14 men” formula.
14 May 2010, 12:04 pm
Tac
If Bulls gonna play saders almost anyway then it does`nt really matter who wins here.Canes will never beat stormers at Newlands.

@Pienkdas de Villiers(Pienkdas de Villiers)-55:
Of course they will.
14 May 2010, 12:05 pm
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-56:
Oh. I thought you said SADERS will never beat the Stormers at Newlands.
Canes? I have my doubts about them as well.
14 May 2010, 12:05 pm
Heavens Game
How do you get to that scenario??
14 May 2010, 12:06 pm
@Dusky(Dusky)-45: Typical, because the Stormers lost to the Sharks the Bulls are beter, I’m sorry I forgot the Bulls played at Moftus and the Stormers played away.
14 May 2010, 12:07 pm
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-54: well in the semis the Bulls will have to deal with a fair ref.
14 May 2010, 12:08 pm

14 May 2010, 12:10 pm
@RL(RL)-51: don’t think they have the formula. they were lucky to come so close in that last game.
if they had gotten the 2 yellows they deserved we would have put them down easily.
14 May 2010, 12:10 pm

@BlueBlood(BlueBlood)-46: They going to be pretty difficult i tell you, not writing the Saders off though, lets just hope the Bulls get out of neutral for a change
14 May 2010, 12:11 pm
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-65:
14 May 2010, 12:12 pm
@BlueBlood(BlueBlood)-66: where does the two yellow come in, are you also saying the Bulls didn’t deserve the two yellows they got.
14 May 2010, 12:12 pm
The Bulls are **** scared of playing their first team against the Stormers, so they need an excuse, ergo they are playing their second team.
Secretly, Tacitus is shitting his Pierre Spies underpants that the Bulls will face the Stormers in the final.
14 May 2010, 12:13 pm
@The Analyst(The Analyst)-69:
As Sean Fitzpatrick said after last year’s final: The Bulls would have beaten the All Blacks on that night. And I was there, so I know what he was talking about.
So bring it on, Crusaders, Waratahs, Stormers, or all three combined.
It is play off time, and the Bulls are done with fun and games.
14 May 2010, 12:13 pm
@Pienkdas de Villiers(Pienkdas de Villiers)-58: Canes draw (go through on more bonus points). Stormers lose with a bonus point.
14 May 2010, 12:14 pm
bulls probably shitting in their pants at the prospect of playing the crusaders again.playing their second stringers tomorrow might come back to hit them big time in the arse i reckon…could be a case of being to clever for their own good!
14 May 2010, 12:14 pm
What are the Tah’s wearing? Their jerseys have flowers all over!
14 May 2010, 12:15 pm
The Crusaders have just flown home and will probably have to fly all the way back to SA. That’s a tough ask!
14 May 2010, 12:15 pm
@WP Till I Die(WP-Forever)-73: no not really, the sponsor had a word with the Bully boys and it was decided that the Vodacom Stormers and the Vodacom Bulls would give the sponsor better air time hosting the semis. Simple really.

@Tacitus(Tacitus)-74: As i said earlier in the year, the Bulls have not yet clicked for 80 ins this season (and they are still on top), I’m just waiting for that magic game where everything just falls into place.

@Pienkdas de Villiers(Pienkdas de Villiers)-81: ‘Strues Bob
14 May 2010, 12:18 pm
The way I’d like to see it end:
Tahs to win
Stormers to win
Stormers to beat the Tahs in the semis
‘Saders to beat the Bulls
Stormers to beat the ‘Saders.
AND THE UNIVERSE IS AS IT SHOULD BE.
14 May 2010, 12:19 pm
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-74: so the bulls were having fun and games?
14 May 2010, 12:19 pm
@rossoneri(rossoneri)-77: Pyjamas?
14 May 2010, 12:19 pm
S14 is riddled w obstructive runners. ReaLly bad. Watch when the full back considers running when he fields a deep kick, the back will start running laterally 15 in front of him
14 May 2010, 12:20 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-85:
Is that universe by any chance located on a Disc carried on the backs of four elephants standing on the shell of a Giant Turtle swimming through space?
14 May 2010, 12:21 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-85: But according to some under the shadow of Table Mountain, a Stormers S14 win is a foregone conclusion.
Everyone can go home now, competition is over…
14 May 2010, 12:21 pm
Plenty of hot air from the stormers fans here, always welcome during winter.
14 May 2010, 12:21 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-85:
Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves here
Still the “small” matter of a pumped up and hungry Bulls b-side to get through tomorrow.
All we need is the win for that home semi, but stranger things have happened.
14 May 2010, 12:21 pm
@RL(RL)-82: who scored?
14 May 2010, 12:23 pm
2 more tries for that Tahs, and then the Canes fightback and win by less than 7.
Perfect.
14 May 2010, 12:24 pm
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-89: You may think so, but it’s not as far fetched as you may think.
Consider the likelyhood of the following on the balance of probabilities:
Tahs should beat the canes. Tahs go the third after the weekend. (Likely)
Stormers beat the Bulls second stringers (likely)
Saders beat the Bulls (possible given last week)
Stormers vs Saders at Newlands? If past meetings this year is abything to go on, it’s more likely than the Bulls beating the ‘Saders at Orlando
14 May 2010, 12:24 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-72: owen franks and richie, definite yellows.
not saying we didn’t deserve our yellows.
and lets not forget richie breaking early from the scrum to charge down steyn’s drop goal. watch the clip. its there for the world to see.
thats a penalty. 3 points. game. the try was justice, nothing more.
14 May 2010, 12:25 pm
looks like stormers will be in fourth position after this game.bulls wiil have a choice,either stormers or crusaders but i think no matter what that they will be up the creek next week with no fcukkin paddles in sight.
14 May 2010, 12:25 pm

14 May 2010, 12:26 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-90: Firstly, that’s how I said I’d LIKE it to end. and secondly, if you think about it dispassionately, my post (95) isn’t out of the realms of possibility.
14 May 2010, 12:26 pm
@gunther(gunther)-91:
And I assume you’ve read all the “balanced” postings by Tacitus and co have you?
14 May 2010, 12:26 pm
There is no way that Saders will beat Bulls next week. It is quite simple that they have still have jet lag and next week they have to fly to Gauteng again! Same happen last year to Chiefs and Bulls murder them in final. After Stormers beat Saders with about 30 points Bulls was relaxed last week, that is not going to happen next week.
I’m a bit afraif for my Stormers against Tahs next week. Earlier in this year Tahs was the best in first 20 minutes but after that Stormers had seen more ball and I thought they was only marginally better at the end.
14 May 2010, 12:26 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-98: Grant 10 wants them badly. If you are serious I’ll send you his details.
14 May 2010, 12:27 pm

@Tacitus(Tacitus)-94: keep on dreaming doos!
14 May 2010, 12:27 pm

14 May 2010, 12:29 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-99: Table Mountain Green tea (smoken not stirred and sipped) does wonders for the imagination…
But dispassionately it could be a Canes Tahs draw and a Stormers loss with a bonus point.
Stormers vs Saders (In NZ)
Bulls vs Canes (In SA)
Bulls vs Saders….

@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-109:
This result should mean absolutley nothing to the Stormers.
All they need to do is focus on beating the Bulls tomorrow.
That will be enough to secure a home-semi, so really, it doesn’t matter what else happens.
14 May 2010, 12:30 pm
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-94: doubt that will happen son. cant see the canes putting 4 tries past the crying tahs.
14 May 2010, 12:31 pm
Please can somebody tell Naas that it is Hurricanes not Harricanes.
14 May 2010, 12:32 pm
@Jonck(Jonck)-101: this time the bulls play in soweto and with ‘swartgevaar’on their minds their support might not be that vocal.lol
14 May 2010, 12:33 pm
i’ll tell you what though, the stormers are going to have to win to stay in the running for the semis……let alone a home semi. they’ve got it all to do in a wet and blistery cape town tomorrow. it’ll be unattractive rugby…just the way the bulls like it.
14 May 2010, 12:34 pm
come on canes……pull something out of the bag
14 May 2010, 12:36 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-112: want the tahs to win this one, easier semi, then saders at newlands, even someone with your lack of imagination should know that…
14 May 2010, 12:36 pm
@BlueBlood(BlueBlood)-96: It looked as though Franks actually levelled Danie out at the end of the tackle, what I mean is Danie actually fell on his arse rather than his head or shoulders, so to me it wasn’t too bad. Another thing is that was the second spear tackle by hurdles in the match, the first one was after 3 minutes and nothing happened.
14 May 2010, 12:36 pm
come on Canes!!! Newlands is waiting!!
14 May 2010, 12:37 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-117:
Agreed- nothing else should concern them other than a win.
And I reckon it’s going to be alot closer than most here think. The Stormers should have too much firepower, but as we saw against the Sharks, if you rattle them in these high-pressure must win situations, they haven’t tended to respond well.
A side-effect of not having won anything for a while. They need to learn to win the big games.
14 May 2010, 12:37 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-109: suddenly not feeling to well?
14 May 2010, 12:38 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-113: You are spot on there. We must win the next game or we do not deserve the semi.
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-109: No you see that’s where I disagree. you cannot say objectivley that the second placed side in the comp with the best defensive record in history in this comp, and the greatest losing margin of 6 points the whole season is likely to lose at home against a team that has not played together before and without 13 of their front line players. No one has that sort of depth, then you may as well say that the Bulls are the best and second best teams in the comp. (NOOOOOO, that wasn’t an invitation to start)
14 May 2010, 12:38 pm
Weepu keeping the score board ticking over nicely..
14 May 2010, 12:39 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-109: sounds like you have been smoking the mine dump poisen again…lay off the drugs dude, you are not making any sense again
14 May 2010, 12:40 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-109:
It could be alot of things.
It could even be a final without the Bulls.
SHOCK, HORROR AND PERISH THE THOUGHT.
14 May 2010, 12:41 pm
@RL(RL)-115: LOL!!! But on the other hand…
14 May 2010, 12:41 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-109: If you read most of the posts on Keo, you will notice it’s the Bulls supporters who are windgat, then followed by the Sharks and then the Stormers. To this day I don’t know what makes the Sharks windgat.
14 May 2010, 12:41 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-124: don’t bother trying to reason with that twat. he needs to provoke someone to get a reaction and then thinks he’s somehow superior by creating a emotional responce, almost like the Tacitus complex, but without the odd good comment
14 May 2010, 12:41 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-117: The sun is shining tomorrow. Please check facts(weather report)
14 May 2010, 12:44 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-117: the sun will be out in all it’s splendour mate!gonna be a lovely day in cape town,africa’s greatest city.
14 May 2010, 12:45 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-124: Okay, the Bulls are the best and MAYBE second best teams in the Competition…
14 May 2010, 12:45 pm
@scorpion(capestormer)-116: remember it goes both ways. we have never played at orlando but neither has the teams we are playing against. difference is we get to practice there. and we get to set the place up like we want it.
what do you think our players were doing this week? knocking back pina colodas on margate beach? i would put good money on the fact that morne steyn was practicing his kicks already.
14 May 2010, 12:45 pm
I think the bulls are thinking of disrupting the stormers and getting a close game, BUT….I also think Schalk and his men kows what went wrong last week and might come in guns a blazin and win this one very far!!!!
14 May 2010, 12:45 pm
Game pretty much over, Waratahs into the semis. And it looks like it going to be a bonus point win for sure.
Which will make Bulls (47), Waratahs (43), Crusaders (41) and Stormers already in with current 39 and they will have to win tomorrow to stay at home.
14 May 2010, 12:45 pm
weak attempt at a tackle by Weepu… just killed his AB chances..
Canes dont score next they are
gooooooooone !
14 May 2010, 12:47 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-129:
Ah- but you see, they don’t see it as windgat. They have this pleasant little idea that because their team has won the Super 14, they come from some position of authority on the matter.
The fact that their team has had so much success, automatically means that they know more about the game than anyone else and should you question them, well…
Us peons should know our place.
But soon enough, they will learn that when your team is at the top, the fall is much harder when they do inevitably fail one day.
And then, much like in 2008, the rugby fundi’s from the north will go very quiet.
Crickets quiet.
Tumbleweeds.
14 May 2010, 12:47 pm
I wil tell you one thing…if we hit that purple patch erly in the game the bulls might regret sending he B-team and talking them up……cause lets be fair…….Al the press and Bulls are talking a very good game and making Kaplan believe they have a chance!!!
14 May 2010, 12:47 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-129: What posts you reading… Where’ve you been? Antarctica?
14 May 2010, 12:47 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-122: i hope bash has his kicking boots polished….he’s going to need it.
@jamisz(jamisz)-131: i trust you live in rondebosch and know your weather in the area. it’s not looking good man….and i’m staring out my window. the weather man said the same thing for today….sunshine and no wind. well, that’s not what i’m seeing.
14 May 2010, 12:47 pm
@Nils(Nils)-136: Canes are being out enthused…
14 May 2010, 12:48 pm
canes are out, buy all accounts, don’t see them even getting 1 bonus point! now the Tahs can really start there whinge about not hosting a semi-final, brace yourselves!
14 May 2010, 12:48 pm
@scorpion(capestormer)-132: i agree with the latter, that’s why i live here…not so sure about the weather.
14 May 2010, 12:49 pm
@BlueBlood(BlueBlood)-134:
Exactly. And the Bulls have won plenty on the road at non-neutral venues to know that they still have the upper hand if they host a final in Soweto.
After all, their fans will rightly have more numbers there if they earn the right to host the final.
14 May 2010, 12:49 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-137: Canes are gone for sure. Even before that bonus point try and now they are dead and buried. No hopers whatsoever today.
14 May 2010, 12:49 pm
@Nils(Nils)-136: Aha, could be a Bulls A vs Stormer and Waratahs vs Crusader semis…
Still looking like a Bulls vs Sader final… Specially after Barry puts a few Stormers into traction…
14 May 2010, 12:49 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-143: goooooooone!!
14 May 2010, 12:51 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-141: what weather report did you hear, supposed to be rain today, wind change to southerly tomorrow, 18 degrees, no rain
14 May 2010, 12:53 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-147: no matter how the final standings will look like, semis are going to be huge games.
The one and only thing I am dead sure, there will not be Chief clowns there to be massacred.
All 4 teams do know how to defend.
14 May 2010, 12:53 pm
and that is that,no hurricane miracle for tac.get ready tac,we are coming for you bully boys!
14 May 2010, 12:53 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-147:
I do hope you’ll man up and show your face here should your prediction not work out that way?
14 May 2010, 12:55 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-147:
That is what you will be hoping yes….since every one said the saders won’t beat brumbies since they had to travel to NZ from SA………ooooopppsss!!!!
Now you are sitting there knowing that Marius plonker is not the ref in the semi and you start to realize…..wait a minute….saders again in two weeks after we beat them with luck!!!?????
I was at that game….and I saw the speach Richie gave the circle after the game…pointing at the seats…..while the BUlls were doing a victory lap for the supporters……….
Watch this space!!
14 May 2010, 12:56 pm
Should the Stormers do the expected and win tomorrow, there’s going to be some WHINGEING in New South Wales.
Come on Stormers, even more reason to win. Nothing warms the heart like an whingeing Aussie who believes he’s been hard done by (which is pretty much always).
14 May 2010, 12:56 pm
so here’s a question. if the tahs end up on 43 points and so do the stormers, who goes to 2nd?
14 May 2010, 12:56 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-120: i watched it closely and it looks like Danie lifted his upper body, compared to if his back was facing upwards and then he would have ‘dived’ downwards to break his fall, looking worse than it probably was.
14 May 2010, 13:05 pm
Stormers through to the semi’s , Tac, it looks like our trip to Soweto is becoming a reality
14 May 2010, 13:05 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-155: The team with the better points difference.
14 May 2010, 13:06 pm
@jamisz(jamisz)-158: ??? who is that?
14 May 2010, 13:06 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-155: Stormers will be second because of points difference is far superior
14 May 2010, 13:07 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-155: Stormers, as they have by far better +/- difference.
14 May 2010, 13:07 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-155: Stormers have a huge points advantage.
14 May 2010, 13:07 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-155: At the moments the stormers points diff is +166 and the Tahs are + 81. They are ahaed by 23 making it +104. The only way for the stormers to get to 43 is
1 Draw. PD remains 166
2 Lose by 7 and score 4 tries. PD goes to +159 minimum.
14 May 2010, 13:08 pm
Ok…so there goes the pressure….and the stormers can enjoy their game against the bully bees……
And TAC….39 was enough to make semis….what did you say???? 43??????? Hahahahahaha
14 May 2010, 13:08 pm
DRAGONS!!!!
Internet cleaning service in progress…. sorry lads.
Keo will be back soon.
14 May 2010, 13:08 pm
no chiefs= no freebies for bulls!go get them richie!
14 May 2010, 13:09 pm
So. It looks like the Bulls, Stormers, Tah’s and Saders will be the top 4 come end of the weekend.
14 May 2010, 13:09 pm
@Hoops(Hoops)-164: Suddenly Tac is kaking his pants that the Stormers mustn’t end 4th, Soweto beckons!!!!
14 May 2010, 13:10 pm
@XhosaKid(XhosaKid)-160: @Nils(Nils)-161: @Bill Reyts(Gumboots)-162: thanks!
14 May 2010, 13:10 pm
Barnes will be the Aussie 10 in the 3Ns.. Cooper wont make it..
14 May 2010, 13:11 pm
@rossoneri(rossoneri)-167:
Now that would be a classic. Not what the doctor ordered.
14 May 2010, 13:11 pm
@die denker(kemp)-165: glad someone else had that screen too… thought Id be banned
14 May 2010, 13:11 pm
@jamisz(jamisz)-163: In that case Stormers will have 41 point and away semi. Thay HAVE to win to stay at home.
14 May 2010, 13:12 pm
Is this the same referee as in the BS v Saders? Not impartial!
14 May 2010, 13:12 pm
next week: bulls vs saders, stormers vs tahs. week after that: stormers vs saders.
14 May 2010, 13:12 pm
@XhosaKid(XhosaKid)-168: 171 was to you!
14 May 2010, 13:13 pm
@Bill Reyts(Gumboots)-171: hey Bill… so who would you rather your team play?
14 May 2010, 13:13 pm
@scorpion(capestormer)-166: Amazing what can happen when the referee does not influence the game.
14 May 2010, 13:13 pm
can the reds still knock the stormers off the 4th spot? what is the PD?
14 May 2010, 13:14 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-172:
yeah, also thought i was the one being “cleaned up”!
14 May 2010, 13:14 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-177:
Bulls.
the easier game.
14 May 2010, 13:14 pm
Every time the Canes drop the ball, even when it is knocked metres backwards, it’s a Wannatarts feed!
14 May 2010, 13:15 pm
@Nils(Nils)-150: Yup, too right there.
14 May 2010, 13:15 pm
Stormers would I imagine be happy with the state of affairs.
Either way, they will play their semi in South Africa.
Saders with a possible second bite at the cherry with the Bulls if the Stormers win.
And those Crusaders are going to be HUNGRY.
14 May 2010, 13:15 pm
@AiDoc(AiDoc)-182: maybe the canes should stop dropping balls hey
14 May 2010, 13:16 pm
@Bill Reyts(Gumboots)-181: Ive always thought you were wise counsel…
@die denker(kemp)-180: hehehehe theyd do the kiwi first mate lol
14 May 2010, 13:17 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-184: i would actually be surprised if the saders don’t come back with a HUGE effort.
14 May 2010, 13:17 pm
@Hoops(Hoops)-153: Will do…
14 May 2010, 13:17 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-179:
Not unless they win by about a hundred
The Stormers are pretty much guaranteed a 4th or 2nd finish, barring some sort of seriously freakish result.
14 May 2010, 13:17 pm
so looks like stormers/crusaders final at newlands
anybody know when tickets will go on sale
14 May 2010, 13:18 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-179: Reds + 56 Stormers + 166
14 May 2010, 13:19 pm
Congratulations to the Stormers for making the Semis. I’m not going to berate all you nay-sayers (you know who you are) who, it seemed, were hoping against hope that the Stormers would turn out to not be the real deal this year. We have something left to prove but we have had a great season and will contest the semi finals. Where remains to be seen, but I will predict that it will be at newlands, with the finals either in Orlando, or at Newlands against the ‘Saders.
And congratulations to the Bulls for finishing top, but I already said that after the Bulls won last week.
Please don’t cry, Our success is not your failure…
14 May 2010, 13:19 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-187:
Question is, can the hunger and will to win overcome 3 hard games in 3 weeks, crossing numerous time-zones both ways on 3 occasions in the last month or so?
And I would think that even for a side like the Saders, that’s a bridge too far against a class outfit like the Bulls (who also have the benefit of a little break this week).
14 May 2010, 13:19 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-179: It will require a huge upset in Cape Town as currently Stormers point difference is better by 110.
So Stormers have to lose without any bonus points by at least 50 or something to give the smallest possible mathematical chances to the Reds.
14 May 2010, 13:21 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-189: @jamisz(jamisz)-191: no chance then. stormers have to win….
14 May 2010, 13:21 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-193: both the reds and saders have put big dents in the whole travel theory..
imagine if the saders win next week..
14 May 2010, 13:22 pm
The canes have had no answer to the rushing defence of the Tahs, credit to them, theyve won the collisions all night.
14 May 2010, 13:23 pm
anyone for a Tahs/Saders final?
14 May 2010, 13:24 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-196: “imagine if the saders win next week..”
I’ll be probably drunk celebrating
14 May 2010, 13:24 pm
@Bill Reyts(Gumboots)-176:
, I have not come across a single Bulls fan who is looking forward to meeting the Stormers in Soweto. Tac called us “the Cosmopolitan” bunch whereas the Bulls are “traditional Afrikaans and conservative” lot.
For the Stormers to make it to the semi’s is an achievement on its own, no more calling us pretenders anymore!!!!!!!!
14 May 2010, 13:26 pm
that was nice, i slipped out for a quick lunch to catch the 2nd half, the Canes just have no BMT, no game-plan and no clue, well done Tahs, defense was awsome.
14 May 2010, 13:26 pm
I think the Bulls are secretly praying that we win tomorrow, or it’s sudden death in Orlando lol…..
14 May 2010, 13:27 pm
@logie_Jumpbuck(logie_Jumpbuck)-179: The Reds will have to make up a 110 points difference, they must win by 60+ and the Stormers lose by 60+, highly unlikely, by the time Stormers play, they will know what to get
14 May 2010, 13:28 pm
Its been the year of the home town ref calling the shots and the outcomes. This game no exception. This comp is not played on even playing fields. If Bulls get impartial ref’s in Orlando its overs, they can kiss their big breek bravado season goodbye right here right now.
Bulls will not take the comp this year not if an unbiased ref blows semi or final.
14 May 2010, 13:28 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-202: Exactly, Tac is shitting mad wherever he is!!
14 May 2010, 13:28 pm
@Nils(Nils)-199: me too
thing is, Dickensons been named for one semi, wonder which team he’ll get…
Lawrence for the other one..
I still maintain..
A Saffa/Aus alliance..
14 May 2010, 13:29 pm
grats to the waratahs, get ready for some serious moaning now.
how important was that bonus point in the loss to the sharks now?
14 May 2010, 13:30 pm
Imagine if the Bulls lose in the semis, the Waratahs will cry buckets, they had a slight chance of a home semi and home final. thats 1.2 million Aust dollars.
14 May 2010, 13:30 pm
@XhosaKid(XhosaKid)-200: Now you have met one, i would rather 2 SA sides be in the final than one, all 4 of these teams are going to be tough to beat, so it doesnt matter who the Bulls meet where, its going to be tough either way.
14 May 2010, 13:30 pm
@skoptiet(yliad)-204: the Bulls dont choose the refs my child.
14 May 2010, 13:31 pm
@BlueBlood(BlueBlood)-207: not that important, we’ll get 5 tomorrow
14 May 2010, 13:32 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-209: wow, you and I agree on something..
finals rugby is completely a new ball game…
14 May 2010, 13:32 pm
If they lose by more than 7 points they remain 4th and play Bulls is Soweto next week.
If they lose by less than 7 points and score 4 tries they end 3rd and play the Waratahs in Australia next week.
If they lose by less than 7 points and don’t score 4 tries they end 4th and play Bulls.
If they win they play the Waratahs at Newlands next week
14 May 2010, 13:32 pm
@XhosaKid(XhosaKid)-200: There is a good chance we will be seeing you in Cape Town for the final – Bulls are up for a whacking !
14 May 2010, 13:32 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-196:
Certainly not beyond the realms of possibility.
But if the Stormers get and win a home-semi, I’d rather they didn’t
14 May 2010, 13:33 pm
@Martin(Martin)-190: lol.you have just send tac on his tenth trip to the toilet!
14 May 2010, 13:33 pm
@XhosaKid(XhosaKid)-200:
For sure – just happy that we made the last 4 standing – one step at a time mate. Not calling a win until the fat lady sings. Not that arrogant are we.
14 May 2010, 13:34 pm
its alright to reach the semis….but it aint any good if we don’t win it….its like bragging about coming in 4th place…
14 May 2010, 13:34 pm
Well done Tahs and Saders! Think you are worthy of the semis too.
Speak later.
14 May 2010, 13:35 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-111: I just spoke to Grant 10 and he’s keen on the tickets. He’ll email you shortly.
14 May 2010, 13:36 pm
@jamisz(jamisz)-213: For 4 weeks now, I have been saying the only position for the stormers to avoid is finishing 3rd, because I had the Crusaders finishing 2nd, well since its the Waratahs who may finish 2nd, I dont mind anymore where we finish, just bring it on!!!!
14 May 2010, 13:36 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-215: hehe of course.. Im happy we got a team in the next stage, even at a low ebb we can still put up one fairly decent team.
14 May 2010, 13:37 pm
we should’nt even be concerned about tomorrow’s result….the stormers will win it…..by a long shot….crikey if they don’t then they don’t deserve to be in play-offs…finish and klaar
14 May 2010, 13:38 pm
Dusky, I hope you are going to watch the “Mighty Sharks Stormers-Slayers” play a meaningless game against the Force
14 May 2010, 13:38 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-212: law of averages means it was bound to happen Poppa, but the tough thing is the travel factor for the Saders, have to travel home, then then back to SA, if anyone says that wont be a factor they are dreaming, if the stormers win tomorrow they will have to be very weary of the Tah’s because the way they defended and countered in the 2nd half was pretty impressive, but then again the Cane’s didn’t pitch today at all, so one can’t really make an accurate assessment.
14 May 2010, 13:40 pm
@Martin(Martin)-218: slightly yes, but this year has been a very tough competition. its an achievement to be in 2010 semis, it really is.
I almost wish that they would put the S15 off for another year, just to take in another year of S14 brutality. This is a special competition this. It has everything.
The Stormers, Crusaders and Waratahs did well.
I think semis will be Bulls vs Saders with a Bulls win, I dont think the Saders can put off the effects of all that travel forever. Then Stormers Waratahs, with a Stormers win. The Stormers team is a totally different outfit without Puke in there dividing everyone.
Bulls vs Stormers final is a dream come true. I would not even fantasize about daydreaming about trying to predict an outcome there.
Regardless, that game will be remembered for a very long time.
14 May 2010, 13:42 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-225: didn’t pitch today, something like the Stormers last week.
14 May 2010, 13:43 pm
@BlueBlood(BlueBlood)-226:
Amen to that.
Can you imagine how the sponsors, advertisers etc must be shivering with anticipation at the prospect of a Bulls / Stormers final?
14 May 2010, 13:44 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-222:
I’d say the Crusaders are more than fairly decent.
Not as good as a few years back, but good nonetheless.
14 May 2010, 13:44 pm
@Martin(Martin)-223: the Stormers will win, unless someone does something really stupid, like get a red card in the first 5 minutes.
14 May 2010, 13:45 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-227: and your point?
14 May 2010, 13:45 pm
seems very much to me that stormers have one hand on the trophy.
and looks like wptid will get paid out by the bookies.
14 May 2010, 13:45 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-225: I think its Stormers/Tahs/Saders that have the best defensive records (not sure of the order, Stormers 1st I think), plus think they will cop a bit of stick when they land
so they’ll be up for it…point to prove..
still dont think if they play them they will beat the Stormers.
14 May 2010, 13:47 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-231: I’m just really pissed off with my teams poor performance last week, they beter get their **** together.
14 May 2010, 13:47 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-233: Stormers/Saders. And of course the Sormers are first!!!!
14 May 2010, 13:49 pm
I dreamt last night that the Stormers came badly unstuck against the Agterosse. You can pretty much take that to the bookies and make some money.
>^..^<
14 May 2010, 13:49 pm
@charo(charo)-232:
I sincerely hope so!
14 May 2010, 13:50 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-234: could have been the perfect wake up call.. still have their fate in their own hands..
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-235: of course, first to concede points lol
14 May 2010, 13:50 pm
here are the average points leaked per game
Team PA Avg

Crusaders 22.8
Brumbies 22.4
Sharks 23.1
Bulls 25.6
Waratahs 22.2

Hurricanes 24.8
Western Force 28.08333333
Chiefs 32.3
Highlanders 29.9
Cheetahs 31.9
Lions 43.8
your post wasnt too clear poppa, who will get stick when they lad? also who wont beat the stormers
14 May 2010, 13:52 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-234: dont be too hard on them, the sharks are not a bad side, and it was a home game for them, they were totally outplayed my a G’d up team, it happens. you should be more peeved about the loss at home to brumbies, that was a slip of note.
14 May 2010, 13:52 pm
Gees I think the ref blew the Hurricanes to pieces. Waugh got away with MURDER at the breakdown ….. should have been sent off. Hometown advantage ….. once again.
14 May 2010, 13:52 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-239:
Bloody hell, the Lions have conceded 569 points this season…must be a new record?
14 May 2010, 13:54 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-239: I meant the Tahs…after all their talk, and I thought their defensive record was stronger then that…
Chiefs at 32, sums up their season…
14 May 2010, 13:54 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-240:
Yes, it was a massive slip-up. As was the first match of our tour against the Force.
14 May 2010, 13:54 pm
@BlueBlood(BlueBlood)-226: Let’s hope it is so. It’s a very worthy rivallry, and regardless of the outcome as you say, it will be one to remember…..
I must say, the permutations are raelly in our favourat the moment. We either have a home semi, or we travel to Orlando, which is certainly better than going to Sydney or Christchurch.
I’d obviously prefer to see the ‘Saders in the final, mostly as it means a home final at Newlands, but If I was really dreaming, my ideal would have been Bulls/Stormers at Newlands.
And we had the chances to make that happen, against the Brumbies, the Reds and the Force. Less than 3 points all, but a miss is as good as mile, and I think that after the weekend the log will be an accurate reflection of the teams’ respective performances this year, with us either 2nd or 4th. And deserving of the log position either way.
14 May 2010, 13:55 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-238: Well the Stormers deserve to be in the semi’s. Now previous performances mean twot, it’s test rugby time, play for the win even if you’re outscored 4 tries to nil.
One thing about the top 4 is the Stormers are competing against experienced teams.
14 May 2010, 13:56 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-239:
These are the Average points scored per game
Team PF Avg
Bulls 35.5
Crusaders 29.8
Waratahs 29.6
Blues 28.8
Brumbies 27.5
Hurricanes 27.5
Stormers 27.3
Reds 27.3
Chiefs 26.7
Sharks 22.5
Highlanders 21.8
Lions 21.7
Cheetahs 21.4
Western Force 19.67
Saders seem to be the most balanced team in the defense/attack ratio
14 May 2010, 13:56 pm
had a look at the draw for the semi’s, bulls at 5pm on the 22nd, Stuart Dickinson the ref, then the second semi at 7pm, Mark Lawrence is the ref? then Joubert to ref the final? surely they should only decide on the ref after the final log positions are decided?
14 May 2010, 13:57 pm
Bulls can sit back and relax. Briesies must still win tomorrow and they are not the biggest on bmt. Choked more than Linda Lovelace or the AB’s in WC in recent years.
I see already the excuses started with refs seeing the Bulls through. Damn you bunch are unsportsmanlike cry babies. Probably never played a game of rugby in your life snotskiet.
Bulls S14 2010 champs. Yeah, sounds good.
14 May 2010, 13:58 pm
@Xkreni-WP(Xkreni-WP)-249: Linda was never a choker. Sies man, talents like that come around once in a lifetime…..
14 May 2010, 13:59 pm
Ou st..st…st….stutter hak n ou al ‘n rukkie vas.
Fraudie, good to see that you are heeding my advice and not using BAAS Gibsons time to blog here.
14 May 2010, 13:59 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-248: Did you hear from grant 10 yet?
14 May 2010, 14:00 pm
Four tries to one.
Can’t argue with that.
Well done Waratahs, You are worthy semi-finalists.
Goodbye George, thanks for the entertainment. It’s been great.
14 May 2010, 14:00 pm
@katman(katman)-236: hey katman, with a baby, a couple of weeks old in the house, i can imagine your are quite dilusional at this point! how are things?
14 May 2010, 14:00 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-246: no question there, they have thoroughly deserved to be where they are, I have enjoyed watching them play this season… the try against the chiefs was superb, didnt see the Saders first one tonight which I hear was good too..
14 May 2010, 14:00 pm
@Xkreni-WP(Xkreni-WP)-251:
he is a bit gunshy,did not even respond to your post on the other thread.
I wonder what advocate barbie is gonna do this weekend.last one as a free woman for a while.
14 May 2010, 14:00 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-250:
True, she took it better than your average Stormer. Superb gag reflexes
14 May 2010, 14:01 pm
@Panzer Chief(cane)-253:
Kia ora my brother.
14 May 2010, 14:01 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-252: no, will check again
14 May 2010, 14:02 pm
@Fern(Fern)-256:
Yeah, big mouth and then he steals from his Colonial Masters employers.
Lol, they should bolt the doors to all the orphanages.
14 May 2010, 14:03 pm
Anyway, was a stunning morning and the ****** weather from CT blowing in now. Great time for an afternoon kip.
Cheers gents and briesies.
14 May 2010, 14:04 pm
@Xkreni-WP(Xkreni-WP)-249: hey when your on top everyone wants to knock you off..
thankfully my team did, so if yours wins the comp, I still get to enjoy it too..
14 May 2010, 14:06 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-259: Thanks mate. Please let me know ok?
14 May 2010, 14:07 pm
Suprisingly, if you look at attacking teams in terms of average tries scored, Sharks are looking shakey right at the bottom, they need to sort out their backline quick
Team TF Avg
Bulls 3.83
Blues 3.50
Waratahs 3.46
Crusaders 3.31
Chiefs 3.17
Reds 3.08
Brumbies 3.08
Hurricanes 3.08
Stormers 2.67
Lions 2.58
Highlanders 2.42
Cheetahs 2.08
Western Force 1.92
Sharks 1.67
14 May 2010, 14:07 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-264: should say unsurprisingly
14 May 2010, 14:09 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-254: Not so bad thanks, Buck. But I admit I am sleep-deprived.
14 May 2010, 14:10 pm
News from Rugby 365 – Stormers to rest 12 players for the Bulls game, Coetzee says that they have already qualified for the semi’s and there is no need to completely destroy the bulls second stringers
14 May 2010, 14:11 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-264: didnt want to see that table… shows how poor my teams defense was.. second in points and didnt even come close to qualifying?
14 May 2010, 14:11 pm
@Xkreni-WP(Xkreni-WP)-260:
he ran away from sa,moves to mud island,works for a white man,bad weather,paying a 30 pound fine is a issue,has a website with no following,trolls here.
eish
14 May 2010, 14:12 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-268: points = average tries
14 May 2010, 14:13 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-250: teeheehee
14 May 2010, 14:13 pm
@Xkreni-WP(Xkreni-WP)-257: lol
14 May 2010, 14:16 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-247: well if you divide the two ratios against each other the the Stormers come out on top by a fair margin, so no, I wouldn’t agree with you there. They are 9 points a game better than them on defence and only 2 points worse than them on attack.
Amd being a Mac, I would have thought that stinginess would be more valued to you than scoring tries….
14 May 2010, 14:17 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-259: hi there…..i am dead keen….but forget your e mail….will ask stormerboy to sms me it …
14 May 2010, 14:18 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-273: Hi There
Thanks again
Can you be so kind as to sms me bucktrendys e mail addie?
14 May 2010, 14:18 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-268: thats 2nd in tries, showing that they were lacking in defense as were the Bulls, i just hope they can start putting 80 min games together for once.
14 May 2010, 14:18 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-206: Traditionally 2nd vs 3rd is the first semi and 1st vs 4th – second. So, I guess Stu is for the first one.
After all, Bulls have to get Saffa ref.
(and that will make 11 from 14, come semifinals).
14 May 2010, 14:19 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-267:
what the report failed to mention was that waratahs paid 2 gazillion zim dollars to wpru to convince them to do it.
14 May 2010, 14:19 pm
@grant10(grant10)-274: didnt quite get your wish mate, a kiwi side made a semi
14 May 2010, 14:19 pm
@grant10(grant10)-274: bucktrendy at gmail
14 May 2010, 14:22 pm
@Nils(Nils)-277: according to www super14 com, the bulls are already down for the first game 5pm on the 22nd, works out well then?
14 May 2010, 14:22 pm
@grant10(grant10)-275:
how’s your better half’s political aspirations going?
14 May 2010, 14:23 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-245:
I stand to be corrected here, but if the Stormers win a home semi and get the Crusaders in the final, wouldn’t that final be in Christchurch?
I thought if 4th beats 1st, they replace them as the top seed effectively and get home ground advantage?
14 May 2010, 14:24 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-280: cool…will mail now
@Fern(Fern)-282: working very hard…its a tough game …makes super 14 look like tiddlywinks…thanks for asking.
14 May 2010, 14:24 pm
@Xkreni-WP(Xkreni-WP)-257: is that why you can’t scream? to busy gagging?
14 May 2010, 14:24 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-273: hahaha, you can try and manipulate it as you wish, but if your team is up there with PF and PA (meaning least conceded) then the obvious deduction would be that they seem to be balance, remember the Stormers were not scoring that many points in the beginning but their defense was tight.
14 May 2010, 14:24 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-281: ok, they should know it better.
I just got used to mid teams playing first and then the top dog takes on last one.
14 May 2010, 14:25 pm
@Nils(Nils)-277: And Saders always need a Kiwi one…
14 May 2010, 14:25 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-283: No, 4nd team cannot get home final. The seed system applies, if top team is knocked out, 2nd comes in, if they have lost too – the 3rd one. Never 4th.
14 May 2010, 14:26 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-283:
I’m afraid you are mistaken.
The final is played at the home ground of the finalist that finished higher on the log.
Like I said, I placed a large bet on a Stormers/Crusaders final at Newlands.
14 May 2010, 14:26 pm
@grant10(grant10)-284:
so she is obviously opposition then to the anc.the anc is frantically trying to build some rdp houses because the elections are coming up.
14 May 2010, 14:26 pm
@Nils(Nils)-289: sorry, 4th, of course.
14 May 2010, 14:26 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-276: the bulls put 80 together you mean?
I’ll be watching Baxxies with interest,can he come back strong this weekend? would be a massive boon to your side.
14 May 2010, 14:26 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-283: no!!!!!!!!!
14 May 2010, 14:27 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-285: mail sent
14 May 2010, 14:27 pm
@Fern(Fern)-291: ja….she is DA…
14 May 2010, 14:27 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-283: no, your final standings determine the final game as well….
14 May 2010, 14:28 pm
@WP Till I Die(WP-Forever)-290: hope you win your wager.
14 May 2010, 14:28 pm
just heard Van Zyl Slabbert passed away…..
14 May 2010, 14:28 pm
Sheesh- imagine how quiet Keo will be if the Saders beat the Bulls next week and the Stormers put one over the Tahs.
Wonder if there’ll still be all this bravado, or if the shouts of confidence (arrogance) will fade to whimpers of excuse?
Now I’m not saying I think this is what will happen, but I think it’s probably best to take my usual approach of “lets wait and see”.
14 May 2010, 14:29 pm
@WP Till I Die(WP-Forever)-290: wouldnt surprise me….those saders were magnificent today
14 May 2010, 14:30 pm
@grant10(grant10)-296:
anc is trying to build houses asap,they have no idea what needs to happen first.to rezone land from agricultural to residential takes 2years.only way to speed this up is with a presidential exemption.then you have badly built rdp houses collapsing…
14 May 2010, 14:30 pm
@BuckT(BuckTrendy)-297: @Nils(Nils)-289:
Ahh- thanks for clearing up.
So, still not inconceivable that Newlands may host a final?
14 May 2010, 14:30 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-293: thats what i said 80,
Bakkies has had 2 games, luckily we had Danie, i would rather play him and save Bakkies for 3N and RWC, he is looking tired and we need him more for the Boks than the Bulls
14 May 2010, 14:33 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-300: Trolling, if the Bulls lose the semi to Stormers or Saders i will be here to take the punches and give cu-dos to that team because it wont be easy i tell you that.
14 May 2010, 14:33 pm
@Fern(Fern)-302: ja….huge challenge to all of us….need to trim the red tape i reckon.And find alternative methods to deliver an acceptable quality but cheap method….
14 May 2010, 14:33 pm
Some stats:
1. On average, Super 14 teams win 63% of their home matches, and only 37% of their away matches (i.e. teams are almost twice as likely to win at home than away).
2. 63.8% of yellow cards are awarded to visiting teams, and 36.2% to home teams (you are twice as likely to get carded playing away).
3. On average, away teams concede 14.8% more penalties than home teams.
4. SA teams concede 11.8% more penalties in New Zealand and 13.9% more penalties in Australia than they do at home.
5. NZ teams concede 13.9% more penalties in SA and 11.5% more penalties in Australia than they do at home.
6. Australian teams concede 12.6% more penalties in SA and 10.8% more penalties in New Zealand than they do at home.
CONCLUSION: Home ground advantage is very significant indeed. The statistics also seem to back up the idea that referees are under pressure to please the home crowd – the advantage is quantified as almost 15% more penalties being awarded against away sides, and double the number of yellow cards.
14 May 2010, 14:34 pm
looking @ the hurricanes performance and looking where they are on the log, i must say well done to my afrikaans ppl…we are now by farrrrrrrrrrr the best rugby playing “culture” on the planet….. go BULLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NZ& Maori’s stick with Sumo!
14 May 2010, 14:34 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-304: tough injury to come back from too… takes time to get confidence back.
14 May 2010, 14:34 pm
Bulls have changed their team , they are sending the A team to knock the Strompies out , in order not to play Saders
14 May 2010, 14:35 pm
Stormers 63 – Bulls 13
14 May 2010, 14:35 pm
capebull..a full strenght bulls team won’t beat the stormers @ newlands
14 May 2010, 14:37 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-305:
Honestly not mate. There are plenty of measured commentators here who support all the provinces and I think you are one.
I’m referring to the out and out ovr-the-tops like Tacitus, Heavens game, Xkreni etc.
And the same can be said in reverse for the Skopskiets etc
I hope that all these guys who are confident enough to hurl insults and make predictions will man-up should they be found wanting.
14 May 2010, 14:39 pm
@grant10(grant10)-306:
it’s not red tape.it’s the system.it shows the anc’s lack of planning and lack of knowledge.
it’s showing them up.
14 May 2010, 14:41 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-288: “And Saders always need a Kiwi one…”
Loud cry. Let’s examine that.
Saders did not lose 8 games from 13. In those 8 games they had
32 – 17 vs Highlanders DERBY (win was expected) Kiwi ref
35 – 6 vs Sharks (absolutely desrved whipping) Kiwi ref
33-20 vs Blues DERBY (very decent performance) Kiwi ref
23-16 vs Chiefs DERBY (deserved winners) SAFFA ref
46-19 vs Lions (any doubts?) Kiwi ref
26 – 26 vs Hurricanes (yes, referee’s blunder) and who the ref was? SAFFA Kaplan.
20 – 13 vs Waratahs (again, deserved winners) SAFFA ref
45-6 vs Cheetahs (any doubts again?) Kiwi ref
40-22 vs Brumbies (again, any doubts?) Kiwi ref
as for the losses
20-41 vs Reds (again well deserved loss) SAFFA ref
16-24 vs Force (ditto) SAFFA ref
14-42 vs Stormers (ditto) AUS ref
35-40 vs Bulls (daylight robbery) SAFFA ref
In total we have 6 Kiwi refs, 1 Aussie ref and 6 Saffa refs. Oh, wait, another foreigner in the semis.
so, it’s 6 “us” vs 7 “them”.
And now compare to the Bulls: 11 homies, 2 Aussies, 1 Kiwi.
Go figure.
14 May 2010, 14:41 pm
@Fern(Fern)-314: ja….for me its about service delivery…..the difference between most parts of Cape Town and the rest of the country is obvious…..but no resting on laurels….
politics is a tough son of a b eetch arena…no place for the faint hearted….
14 May 2010, 14:42 pm
@Nils(Nils)-315: correction, 9 wins.
14 May 2010, 14:42 pm
@Nils(Nils)-317: geez, too much wine. 9 “not losses”.
14 May 2010, 14:43 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-309: Yup, but we have some young guns looking to take over soon. You’re a Blues supporter then Poppa?
14 May 2010, 14:45 pm
@grant10(grant10)-316:
recently the anc formed a group that is going to look into service delivery etc.
more lip service
14 May 2010, 14:46 pm
@Fern(Fern)-320: exactly…..committees to ensure people do there jobs….fark me!
14 May 2010, 14:47 pm
On a separate matter and putting my springbok supporters hat firmly on my head, I’m encouraged by the depth in certain key positions for the Boks. Some up and coming, others there already:
Hookers: Du Plessis, Smit, Botha, Liebenberg
Locks: Matfield, Bekker, Botha, Rossouw
Flanks: Deysel, Smith, Burger, Brussouw, Louw, Potgieter
8th men: Spies, Kanko, Vermeulen, Alberts
9′s: FDP, Pienaar, Vermaak, Hougaard (one day)
Centres: Fourie, JDV, Steyn, Olivier, De Jongh
wings: VDH, Habana, Pietersen, Hougaard, Mapoe
All these names wouldn’t let a bok team down.
It’s insane.
14 May 2010, 14:47 pm
@Vetkoek(Vetkoek)-313: Fair enough vetkoek, luckily i grew up with people much older than myself and copped my fair share of ragging and insults, going hunting with crusty old farmers when the rifle i was holding probably weighed more than i did wasnt easy but i learnt from ta young age how to take it as well as give it, and my belief is if you cant take it dont dish it out and also learnt that big boys dont cry.
14 May 2010, 14:48 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-319: have been for a long time…from when he NPC still meant something..
14 May 2010, 14:48 pm
so we win its a stormers …tahs semi
And a bulls …saders…
mmmm
seems stormers got the better semi…especially as tahs seem to have lost all there props!!
14 May 2010, 14:48 pm
@Nils(Nils)-315: lol…Go figure today and the game against the Canes (Oh dear, just read your analysis, my bad, Kaplan – he was just trying to get into Paddy’s good books. World cup final next year, and more likely a semi, cause the Boks will play the French there)
So count Kaplan as an honorable Kiwi for that game. Just accept the loss against the Bulls and move on. I hope the Saders do make the final against the Bulls. Plenty of Stormersader support too there.
Bulls A and possibly the Bulls B the 2 best teams in the competition, esp if they beat the Graham Henry’s “Best Team in the S14″ tomorrow
14 May 2010, 14:50 pm
@grant10(grant10)-325: And if the Stormercane lose?
14 May 2010, 14:50 pm
@grant10(grant10)-321:
local councillers doing nothing and getting paid R25 000 a month…
14 May 2010, 14:50 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-327: My bad, Stormercanes
14 May 2010, 14:53 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-324: blues were my favourite NZ team but taken a liking to the Chiefs more lately, not sure why though.
14 May 2010, 14:53 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-326: Boks will play Frogs, if they beat Irish before, something that hasn’t been done for years.
Ok, Kaplam is honourable Kiwi (he reffed Kiwi derby, mind you). I’d rather call Bryce Lawrence an honorable Saffa as he last year helped Sharks immensly in 3 games vs Kiwi/Aus opposition.
Plus add good old Marius Jonker who do his best to help his men and old Stu who is the best friend of Waratahs.
14 May 2010, 14:54 pm
@grant10(grant10)-316: Check you in the queue next Monday morning outside Newlands buying tickets for the final.
14 May 2010, 14:55 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-326: Well, for Saders to make final vs Bulls, those “Baby Bulls” have to deliver tomorrow. Otherwise see you in Soweto.
14 May 2010, 14:55 pm
@Nils(Nils)-331: hehehehehehehehe. lol
14 May 2010, 14:55 pm
Former Kwaru rugby forward dies
2010/05/14
Alvin Reeves
FORMER Kwazakele Rugby Union (Kwaru) frontrower Welile Joseph Speelman passed away from a heart condition at his home in Zwide last week. He was 67.
Speelman was a member of the 1975 Kwaru team which won the South African Cup competition.
It was a side that was considered by the masses as being the black Springboks at the time and included the likes of Archie Mkele, Peter Mkata and Present Ntonga.
Speelman started his rugby career playing for Walmer Wallabies in the ’60s. “Bra Weza”, as he was fondly known, also played with and against the likes of Cheeky and Valence Watson, Temba Ludwaba and Dan Qeqe.
His crowning career moment came in 1975 when he was named in that star-studded Kwaru team which won the national cup final.
His funeral will be held at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Zwide at 11am tomorrow.
14 May 2010, 14:58 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-332: ” Check you in the queue next Monday morning outside Newlands buying tickets for the final.”
Hey, exercise a little caution, otherwise you may have bought tickets to the final in Sydney.
Remember, semis have not played yet.
14 May 2010, 14:59 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-330: because they gift 5 points and resemble the lions? lol
14 May 2010, 14:59 pm
@Fern(Fern)-328: no wonder there’s so much corruption. R25k a month? isn;t that just their car allowance??;)
14 May 2010, 15:01 pm
@Nils(Nils)-331: depends on who wins the pool game between France and NZ… winner will be on the side of the draw that meets the boks in the semi..
14 May 2010, 15:01 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-337: nah, i think its just the way they go about their rugby, they just get on with the job, thats my perception of them anyways, also i have a great deal of respect for Mills, he’s a good rugby player and seems like a stand up bloke as well
14 May 2010, 15:02 pm
@capebull(capebull)-310: the Strompies cannot be knocked out. The worst that can realistically happen is that we finish 4th, which means a semi against us at Orlando.
maar wat’s die kanse….
14 May 2010, 15:02 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-338:
and a bodygaurd for fhurk knows what.this is paid by the gov with our tax money.it doesnt matter what party the counciller belongs to that is the salary.if they did something i would not complain.
14 May 2010, 15:02 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-327: dont go there!!
14 May 2010, 15:02 pm
@grant10(grant10)-321: Is your wife campaigning or serving??
14 May 2010, 15:03 pm
@Fern(Fern)-342:
I thought you work in New Zealand – so don’t you pay tax there?
14 May 2010, 15:04 pm
Feel if Stormers win they will have the easier semi against the waratahs. But no matter. The Bulls will relish the game against the Crusaders.
14 May 2010, 15:05 pm
@WP Till I Die(WP-Forever)-345:
Nope I work here,go there to improve their genepool
14 May 2010, 15:05 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-332: ja….for the saders game against us!!
14 May 2010, 15:06 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-339: Right, the same applies to Australia vs Ireland.
Frankly, I’m glad to have Frogs in the pool. Good hard rugby early on, no easy ride like in France07. I am wary of them much more than any other – because we all know South Africa are flying high and Australia are always a potential banana skin. But we usually are in the dark what France can do. Potentially they may be the best in the world on their day.
Others do not count that much, of course, do not forgetting that Irish, Pumas, Welsh and English are decent sides, too.
14 May 2010, 15:07 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-341: The best result tomorrow for the Bulls would be a 2 point losing BP for the Stormers.
14 May 2010, 15:08 pm
@Fern(Fern)-342: Yes, I agree. i was just being tounge in cheek. A good mate is a DA Cabinet minister and he is always working. I popped into his house the other day to check out his new porsche and he had his whole crew scurrying around like busy bees…..
14 May 2010, 15:09 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-340: Waikato is renown for its forward packs, well from my memory anyways.. though they have lacked for the last couple of years now…
Mils has that old school mentality I think..
14 May 2010, 15:10 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-351:
i wouldnt mind a place at that through
14 May 2010, 15:11 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-335: Rest in peace.
uyalala kahle umalume. uyadlala umbhoxo njalonjalo izulu
14 May 2010, 15:12 pm
@Fern(Fern)-353: Lol I was kidding about the Porsche by the way…..
14 May 2010, 15:12 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-352: Ok, well now poppa, you see? we can get along, i knew there was a level headed bloke in there.
14 May 2010, 15:12 pm
@Fern(Fern)-353: How do you mean?
14 May 2010, 15:13 pm
I’ve heard of the raging bull, but next week it’s the Crusaders who will be raging at Loftus after last weekends game.
14 May 2010, 15:13 pm
Where is my mate Tac
Stormers vs Waratahs….. no debate, home win
Bulls vs Crusaders…. sweaty palms, very likely a ‘Saders win
Stormers vs Crusaders… absolute hammering, Stormers S14 Champs
Simple…
14 May 2010, 15:13 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-355:
I know.I wouldnt mind earning 25K for going to a couple of meetings every month.
14 May 2010, 15:14 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-358: Sorry Soweto not Loftus.
14 May 2010, 15:14 pm
Nils – loser of France/ABs will meet aust in the semis shoul all things progress to seeding..
I too am pleased the ABs have France in their group.. because Scotland did us no favours playing their second string last time..
14 May 2010, 15:15 pm
Oh, damn the Wallytahs are through. They have robbed their way to a place in the playoffs.
Boringtahs.
14 May 2010, 15:15 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-344: serving….
14 May 2010, 15:16 pm
@Bod(bod)-359: You presume “The best team in the S14″ wins against the Bulls B side then?
Of course… Its gonna be a walk in the park…
14 May 2010, 15:16 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-362: Probably a beter road for NZ.
14 May 2010, 15:16 pm
@Nils(Nils)-349: If NZ lose to France they might have a better chance of winning the Cup.
14 May 2010, 15:18 pm
@Kea-Cat(KEA)-361: hahaha, the Saders haven’t experienced the locations yet, they might just find themselves more intimidated than at loftus. is there still barbwire around the Orlando pitch?
14 May 2010, 15:18 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-365:
You are slowly but surely catching on to it…
The best team in the S14 is gonna win it…
14 May 2010, 15:20 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-344: girlfriend/ partner…..not married
14 May 2010, 15:20 pm
@Bod(bod)-369: Gotta win tomorrow first. Then brokeback wet dreams can go wild
14 May 2010, 15:20 pm
@Tacitus(Tacitus)-1: nice prediction
14 May 2010, 15:21 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-368:
I think the ******* Bulls will be more worried about barbed wire than the Saders will…
14 May 2010, 15:23 pm
@Bod(bod)-373: bit agro huh BOD? you got an itch you cant scratch or something?
14 May 2010, 15:24 pm
@Big Hit(Big Hit)-367: No matter, they will not have Frogs till final again anyway.
As Saffas have to deal with Irish/Aussies first. For me it is much harder task than dispatching England/Argentina.
14 May 2010, 15:27 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-362: Right, that’s why better beat France in the pool and let others worry.
14 May 2010, 15:27 pm
@Nils(Nils)-375: Bok vs France final NZ WC 2011. Simple.
The World Champions ’87 might miss this one, I tell ya… Better make sure no Soozies live in NZ and ensure no-one with the surname Barnes is given a visa. The AB’s might scrape into the Semi this time round…
14 May 2010, 15:28 pm
so looks like bulls vs saders semi at Orlando
stormers vs tahs at newlands (glad its not the brumies)
Final Bulls vs stormers at Orlando….final score 18-12 stormers
….it has been written
14 May 2010, 15:29 pm
Nothing could be better than winning the trophy, first dispatching the champions and then the upstarts from CT. Or vice versa. Against the all odds.
14 May 2010, 15:29 pm
Robzim….my apologies….i have tried long and hard to get us all tickets…..
I could only arrange 2 though for Justrugby and myself….
Sorry mate….i tried till late last nite but an oke had 9 and wanted to sell all in 1 foul swoop….and succeeded….
But Justrugby and i got lucky at the death and will be there….
cubannas here i come….bulle …moenie kak maak nie!
14 May 2010, 15:31 pm
@Nils(Nils)-375:
pool A
New Zealand
France
Tonga
Canada
Asia 1
pool B
Argentina
England
Scotland
Georgia
Play Off winner
pool C
Australia
Ireland
Italy
Russia
USA
pool D
South Africa
Wales
Fiji
Samoa
Namibia
QF1: W Pool C v RU Pool D
QF2: W Pool B v RU Pool A
QF3: W Pool D v RU Pool C
QF4: W Pool A v RU Pool B
SF1: W QF1 v W QF2
SF2: W QF3 v W QF4
14 May 2010, 15:31 pm
bulls team for tomorrow looks formidable on paper but will lack cohesiveness esp on defense…still worried though…not a forgone conclusion like most pundits are suggesting
14 May 2010, 15:32 pm
@grant10(grant10)-380: You could have bought one for me and dispatched it by DHL.
Am running out of bogroll on Mud Island
14 May 2010, 15:32 pm
Ok
So I see there is nothing left here on Keo……time for some birre with the sharks game…and then we have massive spit braai with the Stormers vs Bulls game……
Weekend set up nicely now!
14 May 2010, 15:33 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-357: thanks for everything…deal done….really appreciate it!
14 May 2010, 15:34 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-371:
What is this “Brokeback” ****??
Its normally the territory of the less than informed or closet dwellers
I exclude you from that stigma…
14 May 2010, 15:34 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-381: so it looks like NZ/France/Eng/Arg vs SA/Wal/Aus/Ire semifinal.
14 May 2010, 15:34 pm
@Nils(Nils)-375: England have beaten Australia at 3 of the last 4 RWCs, Argentina have beaten Ireland at 2 of the last 3 RWCs. I do understand why you say it however, I just don’t agree.
14 May 2010, 15:34 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-383: will get you one for the final….should be a cracker…saders and stormers…could be a classic.
14 May 2010, 15:36 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-381: I see the seventh and eigth seeds from the last world cup have quite, lets say, cluttered pools…
I suspect the proper order of the draw would have been:
pool A
France
New Zealand
Tonga
Canada
Asia 1
But since NZ are hosts…
14 May 2010, 15:37 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-381:
so then:
QF1 Aus vs Wales
QF2 Eng vs France
QF3 Boks vs Ireland
QF4 Nz vs Argies
SF1 Aus vs France
SF2 Boks vs Nz
Final France vs Boks
In Nz id Back the Boks to retain the Bill
14 May 2010, 15:37 pm
@grant10(grant10)-385: Any time mate. Just making the circle beeeega!
14 May 2010, 15:38 pm
@grant10(grant10)-389: lol. My supply of bogroll will be plentiful then… Better be a big sized ticket
14 May 2010, 15:39 pm
@Nils(Nils)-387: well if SA win pool D, they will face the winner of Pool A if both win their 1/4, loser ABs/France meet Eng in the 1/4
14 May 2010, 15:40 pm
@Bod(bod)-386: Brokeback = Stormercane… No stigma implied… It was a good movie…AC will show it to his team for motivation before the game against the Bulls B side tomorrow…
14 May 2010, 15:41 pm
@Mustard(Mean Mr Mustard)-391:
SA have won 1 (one) game here this Millenium.
3 in a row.
Yeah right.
14 May 2010, 15:41 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-395: To give them a good rogering then???
14 May 2010, 15:42 pm
@Mustard(Mustard)-391: Good man… Its hard educating our Kiwi brothers-in-rugby
14 May 2010, 15:42 pm
@Big Hit(Big Hit)-388: Right, just remember, they have to play either New Zealand or France. Fine in case of the Frogs who have been whipped by Pumas and Poms in recent years, this however does not apply regarding to the hosts. England had the upper hand only in 02-03 when they had a Golden Era, Pumas – never.
14 May 2010, 15:43 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-394: unless Scotland or Argie beat us in one game, which is possible because all the teams in our group are very physical. Georgia and Romania have front fives as good as most of the major nations. Group B will be a war of attrition.
14 May 2010, 15:43 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-397: lol……..hahahahahahhahhahaha. My sentiments exactly….lol
14 May 2010, 15:44 pm
@Big Hit(Big Hit)-388: the current Aus team is looking dangerous, they will be a real force at the Wc next year..all depends on their forwards and whether theyl be able to give those exciting backs some decent ball. Oh and of coarse theyl need a decent kicker this time round a 80%+ kicker…it always seems to cost them at the WC…rem mortlock. Cooper could do the Job or Gits but both can be erratic theyl have to work on their consistency
14 May 2010, 15:44 pm
@Panzer Chief(cane)-396: 2. 2008 and 2009.
14 May 2010, 15:44 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-397:
There shall be no rogering of bulls.
That’s what landed in this mess in the first place…the Blue Bulls are the result of what katman famously called “verbastering tussen boer en bees”.
14 May 2010, 15:45 pm
@WP Till I Die(WP-Forever)-404: hehehehehehe
14 May 2010, 15:46 pm
@Nils(Nils)-399: if the hosts want to underestimate us, that’s fine by me. No Jonah this time.
14 May 2010, 15:48 pm
@MacToogie(MacToogie)-374:
Nope
I just fink Danie, Gary, Pantoffel, Mullet, those two kuk flanks and Wynand will be kukking themselves at a trip to Orlando more than the Crusaders boys will..
14 May 2010, 15:49 pm
@Big Hit(Big Hit)-406: No underestimation, we all know England can strike in the WC. Just there is not a MJ team around, so they definitely are underdogs against any 3N team.
14 May 2010, 15:49 pm
@Big Hit(Big Hit)-406: When was the last time England played in “Godsown”? Ah, yes, that was the game they won with 13 men on the field…
Imagine the same next year… short positions on the Kiwi NZX will be profitable
14 May 2010, 15:50 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-395:
How can I retort to that???
HG 1…. Bod zip
14 May 2010, 15:50 pm
@Panzer Chief(cane)-396: its the WC my man…pressure pressure pressure…something the Nz team cant seem to handle. Some teams just do well at Wcups. Nz are like our cricket team…always do well but wont put a dime in them in any icc event..they just ..dare i say it..choke. We’ve come to terms with it, i for one have no expectations from the Proteas when it comes to big events. Under pressure..boks vs Abs…il always back the boks
14 May 2010, 15:51 pm
@Mustard(Mustard)-402: would never write off the Aus backs, but so much of their tight five effort (which is impt. in RWCs) rests on Robinson
14 May 2010, 15:53 pm
I think the kiwis at home will win the RWC, will be their last one though.
14 May 2010, 15:54 pm
@Panzer Chief(cane)-396:
Right on ******* cue…. Friday night 9.00pm Wellington (NZ) time
Brother Cane has been out with his mates from Johnny Walker, has clocked in home and is about to spew his words of wisdom..
14 May 2010, 15:54 pm
im not sure on this, maybe someone can enlighten me..these new breakdown laws…are they going to be used in the internationals as well?
14 May 2010, 15:55 pm
@Bod(bod)-410: No mate, no scores here, its a contact sport with no trylines on Keo…
14 May 2010, 15:57 pm
@Big Hit(Big Hit)-412: yes…like i said their forwards would have to stand up. And theyl be tested for the first time against the english in the quarters, wales will be pushovers imo
14 May 2010, 15:59 pm
@Big Hit(Big Hit)-400: we all know thats possible big hit
good to see your getting in early lol
14 May 2010, 16:02 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-416:
Talking about a contact sport.
Went for lunch at the Portuguese Embassy down here in Greenpoint and who would walk in other than Jonathan Kaplan.
He just has “Tackle Me” written all over his forehead…
14 May 2010, 16:04 pm
@Mustard(Mustard)-415: The southern Hemisphere ones at least. Probably not the NH ones, much like the ELV’s were not applied last year
14 May 2010, 16:09 pm
@Bod(bod)-419: Hope you didnt restrain yourself and had a go
14 May 2010, 16:10 pm
@Bod(bod)-419:
Were you at Da Gama’s?
14 May 2010, 16:11 pm
Good night all, Well done to the Bulls, Stormers, Saders and blegh the Tah’s, enjoy the rugby, see all on monday
14 May 2010, 16:18 pm
@poppa69(poppa69)-418: best to take nothing for granted, that kind of attitude can ensure a QF or SF exit
14 May 2010, 16:19 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-420: thanks, probably going to get scrapped
14 May 2010, 16:21 pm
@Mustard(Mustard)-417: The Welsh locks are pretty average. Don’t think they’ll lose to a PI side again this time tho.
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-420: the breakdown laws will be used in tests, they’ve been used in the Heineken Cup, they’ve been great
14 May 2010, 16:22 pm
@Bod(bod)-419: Didn’t know he was a porra…
14 May 2010, 16:27 pm
@WP Till I Die(WP-Forever)-422:
Yip
I need some moral support next time before I hurl myself into the horizontal position and take Kaplan out…
14 May 2010, 16:29 pm
@Bod(bod)-428: Kaplan isn’t a bad ref
14 May 2010, 16:31 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-427: he has that looks.good people those porras
14 May 2010, 16:32 pm
@Big Hit(Big Hit)-426: tx.
14 May 2010, 16:34 pm
@goyougoodthing2(goyougoodthing2)-429:
I didnt say he was a bad ref.
He just has that “moer me” look on his face
14 May 2010, 16:38 pm
@Bod(bod)-432: Oh, yes, he does indeed.
Smarmy, he looks smarmy… like the kid at school even the nerds picked on
14 May 2010, 16:42 pm
@Bod(bod)-419: lol. Its the smirk… Just says it all: “Hit me!”
14 May 2010, 16:56 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-434:
What part of the globe do you find yourself in at present??
14 May 2010, 17:02 pm
@Bod(bod)-435: Mud island, otherwise known as the UK. Other parts of euroland notwithstanding…
14 May 2010, 17:08 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-436:
You poor soul.
I shall have a drink on your behalf at LaMed tonight whilst I gaze across the tranquility of the deep blue Atlantic sea and whisper to myself…. ‘Another k*k day in Africa’
14 May 2010, 17:13 pm
heavens game is also in “exile” on Mud Island like shaun langenhoven….hehehe
14 May 2010, 17:15 pm
hey bod, grant10 took us to LaMed when we were in cape town recently, lekker spot…looks like it turns into a nightclub as the evening wears on…
14 May 2010, 17:18 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-439:
It is a cool spot and my all time Cape Town favourite. But I do tend to disappear before it gets too late and the youth take over and turn it into a dump.
14 May 2010, 17:18 pm
@Bod(bod)-437: No drinks or pity needed… I promise…a beer (or five) at my local overlooking the Thames will do me fine. The fact that I am here lets me say “another k*k day in: ” pick any of France, Switzerland, Germany, Japan and Africa…with rare smudgeons of the US of A. But Blighty on a long summers day is not bad either.
14 May 2010, 17:19 pm
@Bod(bod)-437: Have one on me too. It’s 15 degrees in London and these wierdo rooineks are calling it summer.
14 May 2010, 17:19 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-441: What, 3 days a year!
14 May 2010, 17:21 pm
blighty is lekker okes… and lets not fool ourselves, CT is cold, wet and muddy too now!
14 May 2010, 17:24 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-441:
That cold Mud Island weather has finally got to your brain… you need redemption son!
Cheers Guys… have a good one, I am on the way down to LaMed.
I believe in multiples of three… Chelsea by 3 and the Stormers by 15
Bod out
14 May 2010, 17:25 pm
@mikeybrass: hahahahahahahaha don’t be nasty mike…
heavens game is trying to be positive here, him being in self-imposed exile
14 May 2010, 17:26 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-438: Not in “exile”. Contrary to “God” I have nothing negative to say about SA. Some people yes, ‘specially the few that take themselves on this here fine site, but much with the tongue firmly set in the rear of the left cheek…
My decision was very much more pull than push…Global for me, the world extends a bit further than CT, undoubtedly beautiful it is… (other than the mjondolos on the way from the airport, that is
)
Have many connections still in SA and always…
14 May 2010, 17:28 pm
@Bod(bod)-445:
@Michael(mikeybrass)-442:
Taste is individual, but no envy this side. Cheers.
14 May 2010, 17:30 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-447: correction: take themselves seriously
Anyway outtahere…
Good luck to all those Stormersaders tomorrow… Don’t let the Bull B’s bite…
14 May 2010, 17:34 pm
Not sure if this is correct but read that Dickinson will ref the 3rd and 2nd place finishers in the semi. That means Stormers will get Dickinson for a 5th time if they go through to 2nd tomorrow.
Craig Joubert is going to ref the final.
Not sure who will ref the 1st and 4th place finishers.
14 May 2010, 18:03 pm
@Heavens Game(Heavens Game)-448: I live up in Cambridge. There was ice on my car’s windows at 7am two mornings ago. ICE in the middle of May for goodness sake.
I moved here for pull reasons too, notably the better teaching of archaeology for the region I am interested in – North Africa.
14 May 2010, 18:39 pm
@Bod(bod)-407: Hey if you’re going to use the word kak, try to spell it properly. Its spelt KAK! Afrikaans is not friggin phonetic!
14 May 2010, 18:40 pm
I’ve heard Jon Cardinelli has an incredibly small *****.

14 May 2010, 18:49 pm
@corms(corms)-453: moffie.
14 May 2010, 18:53 pm
Another troll causing kak
14 May 2010, 18:54 pm
@Johan Fourie(CANADIAN BOK)-459: dutchie
14 May 2010, 18:58 pm
@corms(corms)-461: Sure you can come up with something more original. Now get!
14 May 2010, 18:59 pm
@Partizan(Partizan)-460: Dont know why these insecure trolls come here. Should pity them, but on the other hand….
14 May 2010, 19:05 pm
@Johan Fourie(CANADIAN BOK)-463: I think we know what’s in your other hand. I was simply commenting on the BS article, you’re the one who insulted me moffie!
14 May 2010, 19:48 pm
@corms(corms)-464: Get lost trol.
14 May 2010, 20:07 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-446: msunu wakho. kijima, gwaan!, blaady Shangaan!!
14 May 2010, 20:15 pm
@Michael(mikeybrass)-451: Yeah, the ice in may is a biyatch…
Archeology, interesting…you’re in a good college there no doubt. Good win in the boatrace!
I am here as a “janitor” and “garbage collector” – “God’s description of me
Prefer not to say what I do here suffice to say it is blaady interesting, fulfilling (for me anyway) and worthwhile…
14 May 2010, 23:04 pm
I have only had a quick flick through the posts on this thread but it seems to me that the majority of the Stormers fans are underestimating the Waratahs as they are already talking about the final (presuming they win tomorrow that is).
Even though I don’t like the Waratahs, I must admit that they have looked very good the past couple of weeks whilst the Stormers seem to be plateauing a bit.
The Stormers are definately favourites but it is not as clear cut as some fans seem to think, 1999 anyone?
15 May 2010, 00:07 am
@Simon7(Simon7)-468:
The Waratahs were excellent vs Bulls at Loftus, their first 50mins prob the best rugby this season. Like em or not, even in the games they have lost theyve always been there or thereabouts, hard to put away. Top Semi opponents for anyone.
If both Semis get tough, neutral, referees then this comp aint over yet.
15 May 2010, 00:49 am
Yip, it’s definately not over.
The games next weekend are going to be epic regardless of who you support.
Ciao
15 May 2010, 00:53 am
Bung except the lions lol
15 May 2010, 01:59 am
The Tah’s were great and the Bumblecanes a product of one thing…terrible coaching. Sorry but the buck ultimately stops there and the terrible thing is it has always been the same with the Canes. Great players, star studded but no discipline, no real structure and no real game plan…and at times no idea.These are things that a good coach is all over like a fox terrier and bangs into place( or should have years ago). I think Cooper has got by on what the team might eventually bring to the game rather than what is front of the people at the moment, more of a promise rather than results.. Good bye and good riddance I say and lets see if NZ can cough up a Ewan McKenzie and make the F’n Hurricanes do what they have been capable of for years …WIN!!
15 May 2010, 03:58 am
I have watched Dickenson in a few games he has reffed…he has been by far the best, standout, in marshalling the breakdown.
His handling of the breakdown has been exceptional. I think this is one area he has really put some focus on and come out trumps.
I will have him for the RWC final.
15 May 2010, 04:01 am
My gut feel is the Bulls have made a blunder…they should be doing away with the Stormers.
Bulls playing Crusaders for a semi…they will do away with the Crusaders due to double travel.
If Crusaders beat the Bulls then travel is a myth!!
Stormers could beat the waratahs, my gut feel says no way, then Stormers to play bulls…hmmm!
15 May 2010, 08:53 am
@wallabie.(wallabie.)-474: I really think the Crusaders will be the bulls if they have to play them in the finals. The Cruisers travel well, and after the last match they have their tails in the air…but also agree they have made a big mistake but once again, who cares. I didnt care if they played their A,B,C team..thats their business to make those decisions and shoulder whatever consequences come out of it….
After the last match between the Bulls and Crusaders the reality was that the Bulls won on a couple of missed penalties and(that any ref coiuld have missed mind you) the Crusaders know this and are full of confidence so its not too the Crusaders detriment if they have to play the Bulls in the final.
Big Hit amply showed the missed penalties on the Youtube site he posted.
