Western Cape frontrunners Bishops will be breathing a sigh of relief after coming back to beat Stellenberg 15-9 having trailed 6-5 at the break.
The match was a battle of attrition, with the Bishops boys dominating possession and territory but largely failing to breach the home side’s resolute defence.
Stellenberg were led by the boot of Erhard Louw, who slotted two penalties in the first half, but the visitors (outscoring Stellenberg two tries to none through Liam Peterson and Tshoepo Motale) came back in the second stanza to take the match.
Stellenberg never had the attacking impetus to take the game from Bishops, having dealt only in three pointers, despite an admirable resistance. Tim Swiel sealed the Bishops win with a conversion and a penalty.
A positive for the vanquished home side; their U14A, U15A, U16A sides all beat their Bishops counterparts.
In other results Paul Roos bounced back from their 30-27 defeat at the hands of Paarl Gym last week with a resounding 71-3 win over SACS in Stellenbosch, while Rondebosch ran riot after leading 5-0 at half-time to down DF Malan 41-5; Rayn Smit scoring a hat-trick. Tygerberg High also continued their good run of form with a solid second-half effort to beat Bellville High 38-12.
