Brits impresses up north

Schalk Brits won the 2010 RPA Players’ Player of the Year Award on Wednesday.

The Saracens hooker was on the shortlist of five nominations, which included London Irish’s Steffon Armitage and Northampton Saints’ Phil Dowson, Ben Foden and Soane Tonga’Uiha, after his first season. Brits received the accolade at the Rugby Players’ Association awards.

‘The last 12 months since I arrived in the UK have been absolutely phenomenal. Having this to add to everything else is very special indeed,’ said Brits.

Other winners include Leicester’s Ben Youngs, who won the Norman Broadbent young player award and Simon Shaw, who won the special merit award for his incredible contribution to the game. BBC commentator Bill McLaren was inducted into the Rugby Players’ Association Hall of Fame.

The Lions need you Schalk Brits.

    Well done on your award.

Nice to see that the legend Bill McClaren has been inducted in the Rugby Hall Of Fame. Richly deserved.

Haven’t seen any of the games – he has either had a good season or the quality of rugby is just that ****.

Nice one on Bill – true legend of the game.

Brits has been the same as in SA. Runs like a wing, passes like a inside centre. Fantastic. Misses 80% of his line-out throws and can’t scrum. He should find a different position.

@gecko(gecko)-6: Where do you get your stats from? Saracens would not have been in the final if they had lost 80% of their lineouts.
How do you know he can’t scrum? Don’t be an idiot! Brainwashed by the s%%t you read in the papers. He will be in my Bok 22 any day.

yeah, agree, but he could be pretty amazing in a certain type of tighter pack and if he improved his lineout accuracy with practice.
