Newcastle showcases young talent

The annual Newcastle U12 Rugby Festival will take place from 10–12 June.

The festival aims to bridge the gap between schools and provincial schools rugby and gives the boys a taste of what they can expect at the U13 Craven Week.

The festival has grown since its first year when four teams took part and is currently the biggest U12 provincial schools festival in South Africa.

This year’s participating teams are KwaZulu-Natal, Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Valke, Pumas, Griffons, Free State, Limpopo, Leopards and Griquas.

The festival is also used to improve the level of refereeing in South Africa, with the help of referee ‘coaches’. Cobus Barnard and Anro Farber will be assisting the referees this year.

Fixtures:
15:00 – Lions vs Limpopo
15:50 – Valke vs Leopards
16:40 – Blue Bulle vs Free State
17:30 – Pumas vs Griffons
18:20 – KZN vs Griquas
