Burger out of Witbank clash

An ankle injury will keep Schalk Burger out of the Test against Italy, while Ryan Kankowski will watch from the wood.

Burger didn’t train again on Tuesday and will be replaced by Dewald Potgieter in the starting line-up.

However, there seems to be no place for Ryan Kankowski in the starting line-up. The Sharks man was expected to be given a hit out in the two-Test series but will be used as an impact player in Witbank, with Pierre Spies preferred to combine with Potgieter and Francois Louw in the back row.

Elsewhere, Butch James will partner Jean de Villiers in midfield, while Jannie du Plessis, Chiliboy Ralepelle and Gurthro Steenkamp comprise the front row in skipper John Smit’s absence.

The Springboks announce their match 22 at midday Tuesday.
