Barritt joins England squad
17 Jun 2010
Saracens centre Brad Barritt is being brought into the England squad to replace the injured Dominic Walduock.
The former Sharks No 12 enjoyed a great season at Sarries, and was a surprise omission when Martin Johnson named the group to tour Australia and New Zealand. But given Walduock’s injury in Tuesday’s win over the Australian Barbarians, Barritt may finally get a chance to play Test rugby.
The 23-year-old will leave the England Saxons and join up with the senior group in Australia. Since he holds a UK passport, he is eligible for England.

Confused dragon!
I wonder if he would have played for South Africa yet if he had stayed with the Sharkies. Still so young!

My guestimation of two years ago is spot on.
Pity its such a k*k team with such an inept coach.
But well done Brad, your folks will be proud of you and any Rugby International for the 3 SH Unions or 5 of the 6 Nations, is an honour indeed. I leave Italy out of that and Argentina….not consistent enough yet.

He is still behind Hape(!), Geraghty, Barkley and probably Flood – quite a distance from that first cap! Maybe even Hodgson and Jonny, the way Johnson has been selecting his teams.

@WOLFMAN21(WOLFMAN21)-3: Yep, but once in the mix he will more than stand his own. I think he will get a run on this tour.

@WOLFMAN21(WOLFMAN21)-3:
Barritt is few miles ahead of the guys you listed at any aspect of inside centre, reason for not being picked is that England not in a hurry to pick SAFAs for whatever reason
They do pick maories in no time (Fluty, Hape) though

Barritt will be the England first choice 12 by the time of the EOYTs…

If anybody can get the England backline’s finger out of their noses, then Barritt can.
loojk what he did for teh Sahrks – as soon as he left, they were all nose pickers…

Barritt is better than Hape, at least he starts for his club.

A great English and the 1974 BI Lions eighthman, Andy Ripley, has died of prostate cancer. Salute the passing of a true rugby giant.

@TheTackler(TheTackler)-10:
Saw that as well. He played brilliantly when he was here in ’74 with the BLs and would have been 1st choice if it wasn’t for Mervyn Davies.

BTW guys, please note that he qualifies for England because he has a British passport and citizenship. That’s no different than the SA rules that have prevented Beast from qualifying for the Boks.

Ripley was unconventional. When ordered to “dress properly in your team jacket, tie and longs” to a social function on the 74 tour, he pitched up late — by taxi — wearing only that. No shirt, socks or shoes.

Unlucky for Dominic Waldocuk who for me is the best English center we have got.
I am a big Brad Barritt fan i think hes a very talented center.
The England saxons when they played barritt and waldouck they looked quality. Both good defenders but can also make breaks.
SHONTAYNE HAPE SELECTION IS THE BIGGEST JOKE.
YOU KNOW WHATS FUNNY HE PLAYS FOR BATH BUT OLLY BARKLEY HAS BEEN CHOSEN AHEAD OF HIM AT 12 AND YET FOR COUNTRY JONO PICKS HAPE ON THE BASIS THAT HE COULD MAKE HALF BREAKS AND OFF LOAD OUT OF TACKLES. WHAT A JOKE!
Have your say
