Earl Rose has been excluded from the Lions’ 34-man Currie Cup squad.
Rose’s nightmare year continued when he wasn’t named in the squad for the domestic competition. Rose was dropped from the Super 14 side earlier this year, later played Vodacom Cup, and has since been playing club rugby for Raiders.
Lions CEO Manie Reyneke was quoted as saying the Lions were trying to get rid of Rose to the Cheetahs, but the latter also don’t want him.
Rose will have to regain his form and the faith of the Lions selectors in club rugby.
Meanwhile, other players who coach John Mitchell has sent to play club rugby include Walter Venter, Johan Jackson and Jacques Lombaard.
Others who are injured and won’t take part in the Currie Cup are captain Baywatch Grobbelaar, Dusty Noble, Justin Wheeler, Springbok prop Lawrence Sephaka, Nico Luus and Wigan Pekeur.
Meanwhile, Mitchell also named his side to play Boland in a compulsory friendly this weekend.
